Ian venter i do remember you its been a long time ago!!Shame bless his soul Rember Rob Curf killed in Nymaropa along with two other african soldiers, and only his gunner managed to survive it was a couple of hundred gooks to a stick of 4 guys, that was a bad area even going in on convoy the gooks would try take us out.Do you remember what happend to Gert Van Zyle,Gorge macdonold,Lt Gardener i for get his first name, Steve Pink, pugsly, Bozo, i for get their real names? and yes Sgt Major Tattersel i also remember you! how are you keeping? the first couple of days there you made sure we got to know the Black bitch properly... she was quiet a gommo, coming down there with speed and very little brakes Ha ha ha.... must go hope to here from some of you guys. |

Nyamaropa was the worst place that I had encountered. Lots lost their lives along that route over the years, many thank the Lord they are still alive. Black bitch was crazy, you can see her on the first page of the photo's. I remember having to go up there with 44gallon drums on poles.... was not funny.... crawl up and slide down hahahahah we can laugh now. I wanted to get a friend of mine into the MT where I was and Sid got hold of him and put him in front of a pookie and told him to check the radiator...... They had vw engines, and were air cooled..... I rolled on the floor laughing watching him look for the radiator, anyway Sid felt sorry for him and let him in anyway. Thanks guys for everything. | Comments: | Well a little late but never the less did remember 17th July 1975 when intake 147 was formed. Had some of the best days of my life and of cause some of the worst but never the less it made men out of boys, as were a lot of us. I had only just turned 17 the April and was still wet behind the ears but I can assure you after the training at Llewellyn Barracks we were equipped to virtually handle any situation. HH, keep up the good work for this site and it is appreciated by I'm sure many intake 147 guys. Dave, I will be looking forward to a get together later this year to celebrate our 34th year since we lined up for as you put it " Put it in your kit bag". How can anyone forget that. Another one is, "What is your name ?" "My name is Joe" "I'm not your F***ing mother, what is your F***ing name?. If only he had asked me what my surname was I would of told him and then it would not have have been necessary to swear at me. I'm sure a few of us will remember that.

| Comments: | Good to see that a few more guys are signing the register and hopefully we will see you's at the 35th bang. Dave, you are certainly raking the guys out from all corners of the globe. Well done and good on you. Any further developments regarding the 35th get together on the 17th July 2010. Will be looking forward to this re-union, it's been a long 35 years. Most of us are grand parents now and time is marching on. It's just such a pity that not all of us that lined up at Llewellyn on the morning of 17th July 1975 are still alive and well. To those that payed the ultimate price I salute you and may your souls R. I. P. You guys are actually the hero's of the war, in spite of those that got the medals. You guys, did not even get a GSM medal.

Fred was well liked and loved by all that knew him. What a sad day this was and what a sad time for his close friends and family, a month to the day before Christmas. R. I. P. my good friend. |

| Comments: | All these recollections of events are incredible and the more I think about it the more it amazes me of the unreal courage that we had as youngsters. Brian Gombart sent me a email the other day of his recollection of the ambush were Stef and Tony where killed and of the brave fight that he put up after being wounded and the amazing roll that Frans Mennie also played in the same event after Malcolm Richardson gaped it from the scene. I've still not answered Brian's email as I'm still trying to get my head round it. It is just so incredible and amazing and no one will understand if they have never been in the same situation. One of us will have to write a book on the times and events that took place at Intake 147, 3 Indep Coy Inyanga. |
