| Comments: | Thank you for this site. My husband, 1st Lt. Robert G. Bullock, navigator was first with the Bill Shoup crew. While in training, they went down in Switzerland. He was reassigned to the Wlliam Dillon crew operating missions with the Carpetbaggers. He didn't talk about his experiences, and died of a massive heart attack at 46 years in 1970. I am still in correspondence with the Curtis Family in Holt who had befriended him while he was stationed at Rackheath, and also with the widow of bombadier, Miichael Baldino. The photos of Rackheath "as it was" are so meaningful for me. |

| Comments: | Hi Again, Just a side note to your photo "Crash Landing" of 44-49610 Littleford crew #79. I believe my Grandfather (Gus Bentley) was Co-pilot and in doing research in the book "The 467th Bombardment Group (H) in WWII" I found the this was the first and only mission flown on this plane as it was salvaged after the nose gear collapse. This was also the last mission for Crew #79 and seems to be their only incident. Great sight for the greatest generation!!!! |

| Comments: | Greetings Everyone. I have been doing research on my Grandfather Gus Bentley. 467 BG Squad 791 Crew #79 J.W.Littleford (pilot) I believe Gus was the Co-pilot and I have two pictures of the crew in front of their B-24's The first picture I think is from Wendover during training. The guys all look young, clean, happy. The second photo looks like a much tougher crew. On the back of one of the pictures are all the crews names & addresses. As near as I can tell the they all made it home after completing 32 missions. I am looking for information on the crew members. Names that I can read are: James W. Littleford, Altadena CA - Robert G. Feldman, Minniapolis Minn - David E. Rowland, Wisconsin Rapids - Frank Kowriacki, Hammond IN - Kristl Ribarich, Richmond CA - Thomas P. Kelly, Brooklyn NY - Arnold J. Losi, Brooklyn NY - Nathaniel Ligols, Malden Mass - There is one name I can't make out and If I misspelled any sorry, some are tough to read. Thanks. Chip Dawson |

| Comments: | I am wondering if anyone has any information on Sgt. Len Thorpe. I believe he was with 35 Squadron Pathfinders. In one article that I read it stated that he was a wireless operator. I am wondering if he was in or around Retford, England in 1951-52.
In the Nanton Lancaster Museum there is a picture of the # 35 Squadron with him in it, but only info is that he later completed over 100 ops. Any information would be greatly appreciated. |

I think it was in the '43-'44 time frame. He never talked about the war much and unfortunately, has passed on with that personal information. Don't know Squadron, A/C, pilot or crew members.
He also taught aerial gunnery at Tyndall Field before being shipped to the UK. I am an AF veteran and would like to talk to anyone who knew, or knew of him. Thank you, Art Harper |

He was mainly in the photo lab, and his lab crew won a bronze star for developing a placement scheme for the cameras in the B-24s so as to get good intel from assessing the SAV photos. These were the big cameras using roll film, to make a 8 X 10 negative that were looking straight down from the bomber's belly. Interesting looking at this site! |

I had posted an entry in March 2007 about my intention to visit the Lorraine American Cemetery in St. Avold, France, to pay respects to my Mother's 1st Cousin Tom Gensert buried there with four other of his crew members from Edwin Helton's Osage Express, all executed by the SS on June 21, 1944. Finally, last August, I traveled to France and visited the grave sites of Frank Borchick (Pennsylvania), Stanley E. Brzezoski(New York), Thomas A. Gensert(Ohio), Charles L. Knowles(Texas) and Carmine Margiasso(New Jersey). It was so very sad but beautiful to be there. |

| Comments: | Hello everyone,
As you can see I,m signing in from the Netherlands and I have a request to all of you readers. My name is Theo Derks and I am secretary of a Dutch local "Commando Association". We're a local group of former Commandos (read: Green Barets for those who don't understand the Europeen term Commandos). We as a association adopted since oktober 2007 a grave from a fallen hero from the 467th bomb group at the American Cemetery Margraten, Netherlands. We take care of the grave, lay some flowers once in a while on special days (think of christmas, memorial day etc etc). To make a long story short, we feel that's our way to do something back to our liberators from many many years ago. If there is a possibility we do like to know more about our adopted hero. Maybe people knew him, maybe there are still some relatives or family (sons, daughters, grandchildren)or maybe there are photographs of him or just storys in witch he occurs. Everything about him is interesting for us. Here comes the information we got on him so far: Name: Francis P Last Name: Van Veen Rank: S SGT Registration: 32487830 Unit: 789 BOMB SQ 467BOMB GP/H/ KIA: 29 June 1944 State: Delaware I trully hope someone can help us out, or if not maybe someone can send me some adresses or websites were I can go further with my search. With the deepest respect, I remain, T.C. Derks secretary, Commando Vereniging Limburg, Netherlands. |

He was a great Dad and I still miss him a great deal. He was highly decorated WWII veteran. He was a radio operator on the B24J-44-40120 "That's All Brother" 788th B.S. My father never talked to me about his time in WWII or in the Korean War which he served in also. My brother lost all of his medals when he took them to school for show and tell, but my father was not upset about it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I can get those medals re-issued? |

| Comments: | My late father in law Raymond T. Moore, was a ground crew member for the B24 Witchcraft. He serviced the radio after each mission. After each mission he would ride his bike to the ship, remove the radio and install another.
Procedure was radios had to be removed and replaced with another because of the pounding the aircrafts would receive on mission. The removed radio was then taken to the radio shack to be rebuilt, tested and ready for the next mission. Cpl Raymond Moore was stationed at Rackheath around 43 to 44. I'm looking for more infomation on my father in law's time at Rackheath. If any one knows ground crew members or who worked in the radio shack, My daughter and I would be very grateful. |

Ever since I attended the National WWII Memorial dedication in 2004, and met so many WWII veterans, I have been collecting stories from WWII veterans. During this time I have also made a video in honor of all who served during WWII. The video showcases different WWII Museums and Memorials and is set to some big band and WWII era songs. The hopes of this video are not only to thank each of you, but to also present a couple of places you may not have had the chance to visit yet, while listening to some wonderful music. This video is FREE, you pay nothing, however I would appreciate any written stories or copied pictures anyone would like to share. My Mother's first cousin was Thomas A. Gensert, Gunner on Pilot Edwin Helton Crew # 55, which baled out north of Berlin and were shot by the local SS on 21 June 1945. I was born the following January and named in honour of Tom Gensert. I stumbled onto Thomas last weekend at the visitors' center at the Normandy American Cemetery. They informed me there that he is buried at St. Alvord, France, at the Lorraine American Cemetery there. Ironically, the Gensert family emigrated from the Alsace Lorraine, part of Germany then, in the 1870s. I plan to visit his grave within the next few months. |

| Comments: | Hello,
I was wondering if it would be possible to use the facility of your group’s website to post a request. I’m looking to make contact with any ground-based veterans who were stationed in the UK during WW2 with the 8th Air Force, from any of the Bomb Groups based here. This would include anybody who was involved with the running of any of the camps in any way, from Ground Crew, to Cooks, and from Fire Fighters to Admin Staff. I’m trying to do some further research, on the ground operations, to fill a gap that so far appears to have been largely overlooked, that of the sterling efforts required ‘behind the scenes’ to keep the bomber offensive going. I’m looking for any first hand accounts of life on or off duty, from surviving veterans, or memories from more recent generations. I would like to here about any tasks that were carried out, no-matter how mundane, to get a clearer picture of how things were organized and done, especially as there were variations of operational procedure from base to base. I appreciate that I’m interested in events from over 60 years ago, but there may still be people with memories of this period of our history. I apologise for this rather generalised email, but I’m trying to contact as many Bomb Group websites as possible. Given the vast subject matter, I’m sure you will appreciate it’s a fairly daunting task. Much as I would like to write each a personal mail, time constraints at present won’t allow it. Once again, my apologies. Any help given will be greatly appreciated. Malcolm Holland Swindon England MAHoll200@aol.com |

I've been browsing your site and founds loads of great information including photos I never thought would exist. I'm trying to find out what happened to a specific aircraft, the Gerocko (41-29386). From other records it appears to have crashed or had an accident in May 1945 but I haven't been able to find out exactly. The last details I have are the last recorded mission with 467th was on 8/11/44 before it was transferred to the 44th but I would love to know what happened to it afterwards. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for a great, well run and excellently laid out website. |

What a great website.I have a great interest in the u.s.a.f and the airfields.I live close to Rackheath and its been great finding out things i did nt know about the crews and planes.I often go and look at the control tower (now a little worse for wear sadly)and think of all the many things it must have seen.I;m very lucky living in Norfolk with all the history of the mighty eighth.I sometimes wish i could just go back and see what it was like, our brave American cousins left so much history behind them, i just hope some of the buildings remain for other young people like myself to see and appreciate.Thank you. |

We have surprisingly little in the way of photographs, remembrances, and memorabilia from those who trained here, and I'm hoping to locate and correspond with some of your 467th BG members (or their relatives) that were stationed here for combat crew training. I can be contacted via e-mail at jeffrey.nash@peterson.af.mil, or through the museum web site at www.petemuseum.org. Or, you can call or write me at: Peterson Air and Space Museum Attn: Jeff Nash 150 East Ent Ave Peterson AFB, CO 80914-1303 (719) 556-8314 Many thanks for your help, and for your service to your country. You have my assurance that our B-24 exhibit will completely and accurately tell your story to our visiting public. |

| Comments: | I have logged on to this site from time to time. It is well run and is a credit to those of you who are in charge. My name is Bernard Weltman, a navigator with the 467 BG 790 BS.
I was part of Crew #66, a replacement crew under pilot Lester Graham. We arrived at Rackheath in July 1944 and flew our first mission on August 18, 1944 to Woippy, France. After my sixth mission which was on October 15 1944 to Monheim Germany, I was assigned as navigator to Crew #68 under pilot Edwin Lackens. I completed my 25th mission under Lackens on January 2, 1945 to Remagen, Germany. This was Lacken's 35th mission, a Happty Warrior, and the crew was assigned to our co-pilot and now first pilot, John Ross. I flew my 35th mission with John Ross on March 3, 1945 to Neinberg, Germany. For the record: I was fortunate that I was in the United States when the war in Europe was over in May 1945.Evidently, the need for Happy Warrior navigators was low and I was allowed to leave military service in July 1945, I had been in my third year at college as a bio-chemistry major when I enlisted as an Aviation Cadet. After my service termination, I completed my degree and now taking advantage of the G.I. Bill, was able to enroll in Dental School, graduating in 1950.I have been a dentist until I retired from dentistry seven years ago. I send Greetings to all in the 467 BG, especially to Fred Holdrege's 790 BS Bernard Weltman |

I am a member of the 790th virtual squadron, my rank is Major and I am the XO of our version of the 467th BG. We researched various squads that took part in the war, and found that your group of pilots fit us perfectly. | Comments: | Thanks for your site. My interest in the 467th and Rackheath stems from having worked as an applications engineer on the project to renew the signaling on the railway from Norwich to Cromer, passing through Rackheath. This was the first application of US train control technology on the British Railways since before WWII. I spent a great deal of time in the vicinity of Rackheath and Salhouse without realizing that just beyond the trees stood the remnants of the airfield! The airfield map published in Freeman's 'The Mighty Eighth' shows the villages and marks the Greene Man, which still stands with the same name and the Sole and Heel, which has now become a Greene King. Thanks again for enlightening me concerning the history of Americans in this place. |

I live in Rackheath, and my grandparents live in Spixworth, the next village across the fields to the West. My aunt lives in Neatishead, a current RAF early warning base just NE of Wroxham.
I pass the airfield everyday (now an industrial area)and am still awed to see the hangars dominating the skyline. The house I own was merely ten years old when you guys arrived! Everytime I drive along Muck Lane, across what's left of the main runway, I can't help but wonder what it must have been like to hear and see those B-24's circling and taking off... sometimes I wish I could go back in time as a spectator with my camera... |

I asked him if he'd seen the enemy and he said the only times were when "an enemy plane followed ours in and strafed the runway killing a man on a bicycle." He also could hear the buzz bombs hitting London. He was fortunate to catch a ride home on an aircraft at the war's close. This is a nice site which I will mention to him. I'd also like to say thank you to the sites creators and the men whom it's content tells of. We owe much to them, and can only admire what they did. |

When my son got a old enought, we built one too. Will be showing these pictures to my son. My mother still gets the "Poop From the Group". Thanks again for the great site. | Comments: | What a great site! I have been looking for anyone in the 467th who may have known my uncle - John Mikulin. He was in the 790th squadron. He was a gunner on the Ruth Marie which crashed at Hardwick, not haveing gas to make it back to home base. He died in that crash. I would be so thrilled to hear from anyone that may have known him.

| Comments: | My dad was with the 467th, Ken Zaremba. He often spoke of when he was in England and all the good friends he had there. He enjoyed the monthly news that he got from the group to. I am very happy that he got to see the web page for the 467th before he passed away in Jan 16, 2001. I have some pictures of his , from Kearns Utah and from Raketh to. You have a very good site for all the members of the 467th, Keep up the good work.

| Comments: | I was looking for some info. and photos of the WW2 camp which used to be in the grounds of Rackheath Hall when I came across your site. I was born in 1943 in the UK and after my father returned from abroad (USA), lived on the camp - (Hut 26, site 4) for a few years before moving to Norwich.
I have some memories of Italian POWs being around but sadly no photos. My wife and I are now living at Worstead, Norfolk, UK. If anybody out there has photos of the camp I would love to have a copy. |

| Comments: | I just discovered this site and learned more about the death of my husband, Sgt. Earl J. Willingham (listed as Wellingham) on March 25, 1944, in Dakar, French West Africa,
than I have known over the last 59 years. He was in the 789th Bomb Squadron of the 467th Bomb Group. Members of his crew were Curtis C. Skidmore, Ellwood L. Bragdon, Albin N. Rubin, Robert E. Johnson, Sam Clase--, Ernest Ritchey, David E. Bertch, John C. Steinhagen, Sam Pullaro. If anyone has any information about this incident, pictures of the plane and/or crew, I would appreciate hearing from them. Until now, I have had little information to pass on to his daughter and grandsons. |

| Comments: | What an amazing website. A friend found you on the net. My late husband, Captain Carl H Swenson was with the 467th at Wendover, Utah when they all went to England. He was and S2 Officer with the 791st Bomb Squadron. He was also Escape and Evasion Officer. I love reading about the 467th, having met many of the crew when I was with Carl in Wendover, Utah. Carl and I had the privilege of attending the 80th birthday for that wonderful friend, Col Albert Shower. What a privilege to have known him.
I have tried to find out something about the S2 officers and what they did as well as the same info for Escape and Evasion. Carl had the privilege of teaching 2 of his granddaughters about WWII when they were being home schooled by our daughter. He was so proud of all of the men he worked with, but never told me much about his job. He always referred to it as being nothing. ..that the Crews were the important ones. I would really appreciate it if there is anyone who can tell me about his job so I can share it with our 5 children and 14 grandchildren. Carl went home to be with the lord on Sept 8, 1996 at the age of 79. Thanks again for sharing this wonderful website. Cecile M Swenson |

| Comments: | Its good to of found the site. I grew up living on what would of been the edge of the airfield and have spent many an hour trailing throgh the woods, fields and park land that once was the centre of this huge set up. As Im only 23 it comes hard to imagine what once went on here and the thought that most of the guys working here were only my age is mind boggling. I some how think it unlikely that the "men of today" could cope with the pressures that war presented back then. My thoughts go out to the families whos men were not lucky enough to return home. Before I go, A big thank you for the patches and video I was given by some of you when you came back in 1995, I still have them all. Best wishes. |

| Comments: | Hello my name is Pete age 49 former Marine. I am somewhat of a WW2 buff, I enjoy e-mailing and talking to Veterans who served in WWII whether on land, air, or sea. I usually like to find out what you did, what rank you had, length of service, and what battles you fought in. I then try to find this information that I can download from the internet or I offer to pay for a few picture that you can get copy, I also try to get at least one picture of yourself and ask if you would sign it for me. I also will send you a SASE if that will help you out. I e-mail veterans from all nations that fought in WW2.This is strictly a hobby, I do not sell or publish to make a profit on anyone’s name. This is my way of having my own library on WW2 veterans and my tribute to those men, because we lose so many WW2 veterans every day all this history goes with them. If this is ok with you please e-mail me back. I would appreciate it. You guys are the men that I look up to as heroes.
Here’s something about me: I was born in San Francisco 1953. I have lived in California all of my life. I graduated from High School in 1972 and I joined the Marine Corps, stayed in for 5 years and became a sergeant. I was in the infantry O331 (M 60 machine gunner) or better known as a super grunt. After I got out, I went into the Army National Guard and was in the medical battalion for three years. After the service I went into the medical field in 1980. My first nine years were working the streets of East Los Angeles or better known as The Gun and Knife Club. I spent two years working in the trauma center in the emergency room. In 1989 my family and I moved out to the desert (Indio, near Palm Springs). From there I went to work for Eisenhower Medical Center also in the emergency room for the last 11 years. I spent five years as a volunteer fire fighter for the county of Riverside. Where I become a State Firefighter 1. My wife also works at Eisenhower for a private doctor. My wife and I have been married almost 23 years. I have a 17-year old daughter who is in her last year of High School and a 14- year old son who is in his first year of High School. As of April of this year after nearly 22 years of medical work. I quit and went back to school full time to earn a second degree but I am not sure what that degree will be. A few of my hobbies other than e-mailing and writing WW 2 veterans, I build model ships all from WW 2 period and nations. At last count I had at least 70 finished with at least 10 that I have not yet started. I have my own small library of military books mostly references. I also volunteer at the Palm Springs Air Museum, which is dedicated to all WW 2 veterans. I go there once or twice a week after school. Now you know a little bit about me. |

| Comments: | Guys,
Does anyone know what's happening to the Control Tower please ?. I live close to the Tech. Site, ( Green lane west), and recently the Cars, scrap, etc. has been cleared out from around the Control tower and the site cleared. ( although the Tower itself is still full of scrap). I hope it's going to be offered as a Museum, however more likely, it's due for demolition. If it's the latter, is there anything we can do to prevent this ? ( assuming there's enough interest ?). I'd hate to lose the possibility to save the Tower through just sitting back complacently, Roger G. |

| Comments: | My father was a nose gunner in a B-24 Liberator, 8th Air Force, 2nd Air Division, 467 Air Group (H), 789th Bomb Squadron (6A), located at Rackheath England, 4 NE of Norwich, and called the "Rackheath Aggies." I've read and respected all the comments by the other individuals.
My Father is still living, and can be reached at donkno@marshallnet.com We discussed WWII, the AAF, and the missions he was on at great length, but never did he use a false bravado or an aura of bravery. I would love to hear from another veteran or child of a veteran, because I have such great pride and honor in what you endeavored and accomplished. These communications must finally be exposed and "let out," no matter how terrifying. Only through the procedure of communication will one generation truly learn of what another generation so bravely gave. |

| Comments: | Looking at the control tower pictures brought tears to me eyes. My dad, Tony C. Menchyk, was a control tower operator at Rackheath. As I saw the patches, they brought back childhood memories of my father showing them to me. Of course I did not appreciate the whole thing as a youngster, and my dad died in 1973. I never really took enough time to document what he did in the war, but seeing the tower, and knowing my dad lived the adventure of his life atop that building as a very young man not much older than his grandsons are now, was a very emotional experience. If anyone reading this knew TONY C. MENCHYK, please contact me. Thank you. |
