I cannot recommend Ian too much. I am so impressed that there are people on the internet who are so good at what they do. It was a pleasure dealing with Ian and if you have a problem with a dead ZX81, then Ian is your man!!

Comments:Just recently started looking into adding peripherals to my +3, also working as a debug technician I might just fix my old +2. I have recently thought how good it would be to make a Spectrum clone, 1.44mb FDD, maybe a hard drive and a CD or flash card tweak the rom slightly to add features. Any one got any ideas? E-mail me what you would like to see in a new +3 compatible spectrum clone. The Spectrum lives, and may rise again.

Comments:Small question for a hardware expert! I have programmed a ZX81 Emulator (runs at 33%), but I wonder if it is possible to built an interface with an ZX81 EPROM to get a ZX81 ROM and a schematics that will make your screen being adressed from adres 49152 instead of 16384! If possible then I can make an interface with ZX81 ROM and 16K RAM accessible. Screen from the spectrum will be drawn from 49152.

Comments:I got my Speccy in 1986, April I think. It was the original Sinclair version. Black body with large black heatsink you could fry eggs on, on the side. I still have it in the loft along with an original SAM Coupe. Apart from the SAM, I never changed my computer until April 1998 when I bought my Apple Mac. I never fancied a PC because I wanted decent graphics and sound. Although the Spectrum 128k's Graphic weren't the best in the world, the PC in those days wasn't much better, and as far as sound was concerned, the Spectrum kicked it into touch. My friends all went to PCs though, via Atari STs. I toyed with the idea of a Commodore Amiga (again because of the graphics capabilities) but they went bust. So I stuck with my Spectrum right till late 1999, when my desktop got too crowded what with a Spectrum 128k, a Sam Coupe and a PowerMac 6500/300 hogging it. But now the 8 bits are consigned to the loft. Gone - yes. Forgotten? Absolutely not! Gone are the days of my Speccy but I still have all the games and loads of Magazines - Anybody remember ZX Computing Monthly with all those ttype BASIC programmes? That magazine really gave me the computing bug. Such a shame that it closed down in June 1987. Anybody know what happened to ZXC's editorial staff, you know Toni Baker (Ace Programmer!!), John Wase and persons like that. I had a Disciple Disc interface slapped on the back of my Spectrum 128. A marvellous device which could hold upto 80 programmes on a 3.5 DSDD floppy disc. I upgraded its ROM to something called UNIDOS which left me have literally thousands of files, directories and so on if I wanted (room on the disc permitting, of course). Those were the days of the small company of programmer/games creators. Nowadays the games are written by the big multinationals who only seem to put out endless skate boarding or motor racing sims (YAWN!). I was fed up with them even when they first appeared on the Spectrum. There's no bones about it, the Spectrum still has the best games - remember Dark Side and Total Eclipse? Lara Croft eat your heart out! Long Live the ZX Spectrum. Deano

I use the Multiface 128, and Multiface+3. What a great idea those are. Why on earth couldnt the Sinclair team get the sound distortion on the +3 put right. So I had to do it myself. Keep the good work up......... MIke Lee....

Comments:When i was very young i vaguely remember my dad having a 48k spectrum. i was very amused by it because i was too young to know what it really was, i just that it was a little black box which made the tv do funny things. i remember though that i wasnt allowed any where near it, being so young i would have probably tried to put a lolly inside it of eat it, or something. When i was older i grew up with a grey +2 which i loved for years until i managed to blow it up whilst investigating how it worked. now - years later i have a ZX81, 48k spectrum and a 128k+2a. One of the many reasons why i love spectrums is because they remind me of a great time in my life - childhood. a time when there was no worry of financial security etc. when i used my spectrum for the first time in 1987 the only worry i had was handing my homework in on time. anyway - enough of the nostalga. its good to see people that love the Spectrum and other Sinclairs. its a pitty that Sir Sinclair himself isnt so enthusiastic. Sinclair Spectrum for 2001 - anyone. count me in!!!

Due to my love of fixing things I have aquired and fixed another 38 machines from across the range so if yours is not what it was then feel free to email me for a second life. I will do my best to give it a pulse again subject to the heart (ULA) not responding but lets not talk like that. These machines can go on for ages yet with a little T.L.C.

Comments:Life story :) - In the early 80's my family was too poor to buy a home micro (no really!) ,so when things looked up later on, I got a 128+ new, which was stolen a couple of years later. After that I aquired a 48+ and loads of games from a car boot sale which made me smile again, but by that time, the new Atari ST drew my attention away. Now a computer consultant, (thankyou for my basic training, Sinclair and Atari!) I have been able to aquire a collection of "real" computers, which are going to be put on show on my museum web page soon... (I will still keep one of them plugged in, ready for a quick game).
