Comments:	Currently 24 years I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 15. My parents decided to have me tested after continous issues with my school at the time. From the talking back to the screaming and cursing at a teacher while following the teacher to the school office. Man, I was pretty bad. At first the doctors assumed perhaps a depression. It made sense considering I was 15 and also just switched schools. What 15 year wouldn't be. Well anyways, I was prescribed a few different medications from well butrin(spelling may be wrong) to Ritaln. I notice a change in myself, perhaps the biggest change I notice was that one day I was sitting in English class and noted wow, I have a problem. What the heck am I taking these medications for, I can solve this on my own. Well, for the most part I did. Now about 16 years old I quit go to the doctor and stop taking the prescribed meds. Not smart hunh! I did pretty good for a while. Then one day, I seen a boy hit a girl, and went to her defense. One minute we where fighting and the next minute it was over, well at least from him. I than proceeded to get into a fight with 1 teacher, 1 assistant and 1 principal, 1 police officer, and 1 parent. Boy was my temper out there. After doing some research I wonder now whether my temper was perhaps egged on by the ADHD. Now I am not one of those guys who will claim insanity just to get out of punishment, and I didn't. I pleaded guilty to 5 counts of assult & battery, and 1 count of distrubing the peace. However, I can clearly remember that day, I guess I would describe it as a black out. While before and after I knew my actions where wrong, I certainly didn't know, think aboout it, nor care at the time I was causing an uproar in my school. It is weird, I just turned into a different person. Anyhow, with all the talking back, detentions, schools supsensions, etc I got with my big mouth, it was to late. I was soon to be infront of the Board of Education for an expelation hearing. Although I hadn't been in a fight since 5th grade, they utilized my past as an option to omit me from the school disrtict. In fact, they even issued a treaspassing warning so I could not step foot on school grounds (any school grounds) for five years (legally). After I was exspelled my name was on the front page of the small town newspaper. The start of the article was Students and Teachers are smiling today as Michael ***** was permantely exspelled from ******** High School. I was a topic in this newspaper for 5 weeks straight. Talk about embrassing. I was no longer allowed to date my girlfriend as her parents read the paper, after all who didn't around this small town. I quit school all together two months prior to my 17 b-day and few months away from the day I should be graduating, but never would of because of lack of doing homework. It was all because of anger. At the age of 18 I decided with a buddy who dropped out around the same time I did (he was dealing with parents divorce, pretty hard at the time) to get our GED. We started our own business and had some fun and learned about life. Did I enjoy my time off from school, sure did, I won't lie to you. Now that I am 24 I wonder how my life would be changed should I have stayed in school. While great memories happened away from school, what memories do I not have that could be here if I stayed in school. Now that I am 24 with a GED, and 4 kids (1 which is step-daughter), I finally decided to take advantage of life. I am now going to a community college. For the first time in 8 years, I am going to a class room. And you know what, it wasn;t till deciding to do a research paper on ADHD did I realize I may still be suffering from it. I been trying for a week now to get this paper started and my paper is now, well still blank. My point is don't let your child go through my steps. Identify it earlier. The earlier the better. Stand by your child all the way and never, ever, ever, talk down upon them for there actions. Rather explain to them, take the time to ask questions about how they felt, what made them feel that way. TAKE TIME TO UNDERSTAND THEM! Encourage them to stay with the medications and the system you and doctor set forth. My parents were more than great. I only regret not listening to them. At the age of 15-18 not much they say would have been followed. That is the most important reason to find out early. It may not be big deal now, but when he/she is 24 and having to write the 1st paper in 8 years, he/she may be lost all over again! Good luck to all of you and God Bless. Comments:	I can totally relate to what some of you have shared. Our son, Jacob, has ADHD. He was diagnosed when he was five and began taking ritalin at age 6. He also has some OCD tendencies. We are very blessed with a teacher who truely cares for Jacob and works hard to meet his needs in school We attend a private school where there are no classes for children with special needs. My husband and I chose to hold Jacob back after the first grade and what a tremendous difference it made in his life. He is much more confident in his school work but still has troubles with wanting things to be perfectly "right." He gets very frustrated with himself and hits himself in the head calling himself "stupid." His teacher says that he is at the mercy of his own body. I agree with her. We have a wonderful christian psychologist and pediatrician who work very closely with us. Our greatest strength has been found through prayer and the fact that our Lord hears our prayers and gives us just what we need in dealing with Jacob. We will pray for all of you and would ask that you do the same for us!

Comments:	My boyfriend has ADD he is 21 years old ,and we have a child that is ten months old, I pray that he won't have it in the future, my boyfriend and I have a lot of problems, he is so hard to get along with we have been together off+on for almost five years but his temper is very very horrible he just snaps over little things and he does not have any type of insurance for medicine, I love him with all my heart but, I feel like giving up, he is abusive physically, mentally also his past life when he was with his family they were very disfunctional people, his mother is on drugs and now in jail, his father an alcoholic and a very abusive person in the past with his mother, wich they have been divorced for a long time. Sorry this is so long but I feel alone, and all my father does is judge him, and tells me to leave him, but I don,t believe in having a child without his natural father, and I do love him still very much,but I will not tolerate anymore abuse,also I wouldn,t have wanted to be without my real dad. This is a great site Thankyou. If there is anyone out there who can give me positive advice. ( Please Do) I would appreciate it.

Comments:	I just logged on and I was searching for a chat site (I'm losing my mind my daughter can just drive me crazy...) I have a 5 yr old Daughter being diagnosed w/AD/HD! I also have a 2 year old son... Although we were late in going to the Dr.'s about our problem with our daughter (only when I was approached by a couple of her teachers did I realize I had been correct thinking something had been wrong...) I just wasn't sure what our problem was, Our daughter is very intelligent, creative, way above in her education years. How could there be anything more than just Strong Willed? Unfortunately we haven't been able to get in to Therepy yet, waiting for opening.... I also am an @ Home Mom, I have chosen to Homeschool her (because of her intellegence and discipline problems) I am definitely glad I did, even though it isn't easy.... She reads and writes, @ 1st grade level and will surpass it in a few months (I was/am holding her back... only because I am afraid she's going to fast) I have also been able to find a Charter School so, she attends classes as well. Don't mean to write a book here. I'm just having one of those days, none of my close friends have children, need support. It just seems like she never wants to listen, always antagonizes her brother (who is big for his age, she is however petite, Her being 43" tall @ 5 - He being 37" tall @ 2) Our son now is getting tired of her constant picking and now he his fighting back. Can I blame him? Of course not, she's always in his face. Nevertheless I have to tell him not to fight with sister in turn then constantly tell her to leave him alone... UUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH... Now you can add a back injury (Chronic pain syndrome) to this equation, We also are remodeling our house my Husband works 2 jobs to boot.... Thank God my husband and I are not constantly fighting over her/the house/new child/his job/me hurt etc. 2 yr battle seeing an end. I think that is so because her Teachers made us open our EYES, However we still have a long way... Comments:	I have aN 11 YEAR OLD SON WITH adha AND HAVE BEEN THROUGH AN REGIMENT OF DIFFERENT MEDICATIONS FOR THE PAST 7 YEARS. tHE SCHOOLS HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR IN THIS COUNTRY. tHEY WANT EVERY CHILD TO FIT INTO A certain mold and children cannot do that. THis year with the entry ino 6th grade have beeen particularly tough. Transition changes with pre-adolence kicking in have made me a nervous wreck. We finally gave in to additional meds like Trileptal for him to stop his angry and fustrustration so that he hopefully will be able to utilize the skills and anger mangemnet course that he has taken for several years. Is there any relief and how can you stop helping when so much love and effort have already been invested?

Comments:	I'm all alone. I cringe when I'm at work and the phone rings. I hate hearing from the school, it always ends in "what are you going to do about this?" I've done plenty, but the school won't do the same things. They expect me to fit my daughter into their mold. She won't budge and neither will they. I have very little trouble with her any longer, mostly because I changed how I dealt with her. She was depressed last year. Since she has nervous tics, the doctor put her on clonidine and effexor. She was sleepy and extremely moody. I finally had to wean her off those drugs. She's in 4th grad and in her 3rd school. I really don't expect anything any longer. The school just doesn't care about my daughter, only about her behavior at school. Why don't they learn to deal with these children? Thanks for letting me vent.....:-) Linda

Comments:	What a wonderful thing is this dreambook, I have a 15yr old son with ADHD who is on meds, he isn't too bad but I also have a 2yr old daughter who hasn't yet been diagnosed but all the signs are there - even stronger than they were with my son at her age. My husband works away and I am unable to get a great deal done around the home for my little one wears me down. She is up early with the other children before school and even if she doesn't have a nap during the day she will still be awake and on the go at least until 10pm. I am at wits end. What makes it worse is that I am a adult with ADHD and find it to be a terrible effort under normal circumstances to get things done and be organised let alone trying to deal with two of my three children having this very trying disorder. My heart goes out to all those other parents who's cases are often worse than my own. WE HAVE TO ALL BE SUPPORTIVE OF ONE ANOTHER AND STAND TOGETHER, KEEP FIGHTING FOR FAIRNESS FOR OUR CHILDREN AND OURSELVES AMID TODAYS CRUEL AND CARELESS SOCIETY - GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL AND THANK GOODNESS THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO DO UNDERSTAND OUR PLIGHT.
