Comments:Great concepts never get old !! Back in 1984 I spend hours playing this fabulous action/reflexion game on my apple II
Now when I turn on the old apple IIe i ve bought on eB_y I play boulder dash ( and rescue raiders )
to my mind a joystick must be used to really get in the action
it also works in emulators like cataking but without joystick

so great to see the whole maps at once.....
My doughter are too jung but soon I will make them discover BD

YES we are speaking about the Next generation
great site so many memories lifeis short

Comments: I remember when this boulder dash game came out. I spent too any hours playing it on the c64. Did not play it since about 1986. Now retired, I wondered if the game was still in existance. I put it in the computer and here I am. It is exciting to see it again. I will check out your website and try and get started again. Thanks for the memories.

Comments:Hi!

It was great fun to read your interview with the creator of Boulderdash! =D I has a bunch of games on the C-64, but this one always somehow comes up as my favorite. I remember how long it took to get through all the levels, with it getting just the right amount of difficult towards the end. Lot of trials and errors to learn the harder levels...

The fact which the creator, Peter Liepa, mentioned, about the tapping of the foot and blinking of the eyes was really something that brought that little character to life! It was something you'd show your friends when you had them over for a game! =D Do I remember correctly that he would also look at his wristwatch?

Anyways, thanks for the site. I wish I could find a fully working full version of the original game for a PC. I don't seem to get those small C-64 downloads to work...? I am still mad that my mom sold my Commodore 64 when I was about 13, because I didn't learn to program with it (which I guess was her hope). It was just such a damn good game machine, the best ever!

=D

Comments:I was around when Boulderdash debuted in the C-64. Had I known, at the time my friend Dan introduced me to it, how many years I would spend playing this amazing game, I would have been shocked!
I now use Rocks N' Diamonds as a modern clone (www.artsoft.org) which has a level editor that actually is a game engine in itself. I always wanted a shooting Rockford, transporters, and shield, and now I have them (made them)!
Keep up this great site - thanks for the interview with BD's creator. It was great to be able to learn some history about the game.

Comments:Hey there!

Really nice site you have there, I love it! Congratulations!
I've been a BD fan since I first played it on my friend's C64. I even wrote my own BD clone back in 1992. I can very well remember how much effort it was copying all the original caves tile by tile from a C64 (I did all BD I levels, also most BD II and BD III; didn't have any others), especially getting to the hard levels. I really wish I'd have had your site back then, would have saved me many days of "work" - but fun it was nonetheless :-)

Cheers,
Manuel

Comments:Hello,

I am really amazed how you captured the essence of the real BD game, I've looking for this for quite saome time now. It was more than 2 decades when I first play this game I love it since the. Back then in the Philippines, we are the only family in our community with an ATARI console and BD is one of our game.

Can you send me the original BD game, that I saved and run in my Windows PC? I have tried downloading it from another software and run un using a C++ plus it does not work. I hope you can help me on this, because I've got this frustration to finished all the levels of the original version.

Thanks and More Power to you.

I've looked for the clone Boulder Dash games and nothing replaces the original. No remakes come close and the ONLY way is a via a C64 emulator and the download.

Your site is without comparison and a worthy tribute to years of my youth.

Gameplay over graphics. Those were the days ...

Comments:Great Page and good work. Nice to find such a site where still people talk about the games which many forgot.
1988 my elder brother bought C64 and brought to the town of Quetta where 75% of people where un aware of even the name of Computer, i was 8 when this happened.
It got many games and information, including games like Arkanoid, Maniac Mansion, Boulder Dash, Mission Impossible etc.
When I grew up little bit I took that computer form him as he was not using as much as early days as he got new computers and I used it with very care that even today I have that with me, packed in it original boxes. I love to use that but as u all know that it’s a slow and needs much time but taking out time I use it for a day in 3 or four months to enjoy.
This site attracted me too much and clarified me that I am not alone fan of the game like above.
I found it because I was looking for the PC version of the C64, but unfortunately I am unable to find the Boulder Dash.
If someone knows a good site with free download please email me link at sunny_k_02@yahoo.com I will be glad to have that and if someone needs or share more knowledge he/she shall not hesitate to contact me.

And Thanks For the Site Again

Thought I'd sign your guestbook since it makes a change from emailing. I just played Arno Dash 18 and it's my personal fave out of all the ones I've played (about half). I got to cave 9 on my first go and really enjoyed doing so.
It's also a funny coincidence that one of the levels is similar to one I made last night, the one with the diagonal walls zig-zagging.
Keep up the good work :)

Comments:Yeah! Boulder Dash had inspired me for many years since 1986 when I started to play on Atari 800XL. I've even made a "gravering" on my t-short with original Rockford(16x16 pixels) heheh. I create my own caves also on Amiga1200. My reflection: This game is a small, hermetic universe, with his own atoms-elements like a boulders, diamonds, and more intelligent creatures like fireflies, and butterflies. It also had a human like Rockford which may do everything with these elements :) OK. (There is wery good Boulder Dash editor for Amiga 1200, which we may create 100x100 caves with original C64/800XL graph&sounds, so we can get more eperience). Very good site - greetings from Poland :DDDD

One question on a relevant game 'Rockford' - was the first of the cowboy levels impossible? There were never enough coins to collect. And what was that invisible thing in the corner of the enemies? Would love to find the answer out to this, as it's had me stumped since I first played it back in the 80s...

I was wondering whether Boulderdash ever made it to newer gameconsoles? A couple of years ago there was a rumour that it was to be lanced on a Nintendo, but I've never seen it on that platform.
I think Boulderdash would be perfectly suited for a PSP. The gameplay could even be enhanced. But I would also like the original on a modern gamesconsole. I would buy one of those only to play Boulderdash again!
Kind regards,
Gert

Comments:So many hours I've spent playing BD1 and 2, but it's almost 10 years ago since I last used my C128... Guess it's time to dust it off and start playing again (if I only could remember the command to load the games from floppy.. was it LOAD "$",8,1 or something??? - well, maybe it will come back to me when the classic C64 screen appears on my old Commodore monitor)
Thanks for a great site - I will come back again !!!

By the way, I'm creating a Boulder Dash Fan Site at http://www.bd-fans.com
Maybe you will find it interesting!
