We're gearing up for a hot summer again. it's been in the 30s C lately. Don't like the summer at all.
Dad, Peter Penn, is 87 now, still frail but getting around for his little walk most days, in the park.
Hope everyone has a very happy and safe Christmas.
Love reading the information on your excellent site, well done.

Comments:Hello Angmering,
I found your website very interesting. My grandparents, Sidney & Margaret Tomlin used to have a nursery in Dappers Lane called 'Broadlees'. My brothers and I used to spend part of our school summer holidays staying with them. We have very fond memories of helping to pick, sort, weigh and sell the tomatoes. On Sundays we were taken to St. Margarets for the morning service, my grandfather would read to the congregation, I believe he was a church warden. I can recall a lot of the old names mentioned within your site and meeting them after church. My grandmother's sister also lived in Angmering in the heart of village. I have a copy of a painting of the village green which I believe was painted as a gift for my grandfather. The original is now in Melbourne, Australia. A great site, many thanks. June (nee Tomlin)

I stayed in Angmering first during the 50's at a little cottage on sea road called Suntor and later we used to stay at the Ace of Clubs, a small hotel. very fond memories.
Could find no trace of either on your web-page or thru Google.
Congratulations but minimise change of a delightfully old village

Comments:Hi there,

This site has been so helpful to me. My GG grand dad was born in Angmering in 1838 and came to NZ in 1874. From what I can figure - his Dad may have been of.... "dubious birth history". :) My GGGDad was Thomas Stanmore (?) Olliver. This site describes the Ollivers as "prolific". Ha.... not much changes.
If anyone has any more information regarding the Ollivers - I would be extremely pleased to hear from you.

Great work you guys.... and I'd love to come over for a look. Thanks for building the site. :)

Sue :)

He was wrongly convicted of cattle theft and transported to Hobart in 1841. His wife and family joined him in 1849.He started a wheelwright business there and his family eventually spread out over mainland Australia. His granddaughter was my grandmother.

Comments:I'm Angmering born and bred, and only moved just over 17 years ago. My friend, Pat Bridger-Corona, who lives in Italy told me about this website. My husband and I attended Leslie Baker's memorial on Sunday 5th December and it was good to spend a short time in the village again. I was disappointed that only a couple of old school friends were there, but perhaps, like us, they moved away, and would not have been aware of the occasion.

With a team we might have a try?

I think that your website is awesome and when I read the names of those businesses listed in 1962 it brought back many many memories. All of them pleasant.
As a Roman Catholic Lay Missionary I prayed for so many that I remembered all of whom must be dead.
The internet provides such an amazing place to keep photos and list names and is a memory dream world of yesteryear.
Thank you for creating this website and I hope you find someone to keep it going long after you and I will have departed this earth.
I have just finished writing my autobiography called a stranger and a pilgrim spanning 69 years.
I am hoping to get it published and Tom Hanks and George Clooney have even considered making it into a film.
By my present marriage I have seven children, five of whom are pop stars trying to gain fame in Hollywood California.. See www,myspace.com/kingfamily music.
Thanks for your dream book and you are welcome to include any material from me IF you so want????

Comments:What a brilliant site, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading up on everything.

I would be interested in any information on the Snelling family the latest ancestor I have was Robert Snelling born 1776 died 1862. In 1861 he lived in Water Lane. He was born in Angmering and lived all his life there. He was a Cordwainer (shoemaker) and so were many of his descendents. I have a story which says that Robert was a Cordwainer to King Charles III, I am trying to find proof of this to validate the story. Any help or information would be gratefully appreciated.

Keep up the excellent work on this web site.

Lovely to see a photograph of my grandfather George Chant on it but according to my mother and George Garland books of photos of the 1920'/30s my grandfather worked for Oscar Pyle and not Samuel. He was a well known figure at Findon Fair with Oscar Pyle's pedigree Southdown flock.
My granddaughter who is working in London on a prolonged working holiday from New Zealand has just sent me a photo of herself out side of Chants and has an invitation to see inside the house, she is so thrilled.

Keep up the good work on this beautiful site, makes me quite nostalgic.

I've just started research on my mother's family history. Her mother was Dorothy Charlotte Tompkins and her father was Charles Russell Tompkins, son of John Cole Tompkins. If anyone has any background information on the Tompkins I would really appreciate it. Just popping in to get my latest Angmering 'fix'
I love to follow the progress of the village and find out what's happening.

My parents, Peter and Vera Penn, send their regards to anyone that may remember them from long ago.
They are now in their eighties, and plodding along slowly.

Thanks for such a fine, informative site.
It keeps those of us who will probably never get the opportunity to return to Angmering, a way of keeping in touch with the lovely village (where I was born.)

Bye for now,
Regards,

Marilyn Work (nee Penn)
Hoping this gets 'posted'.....haven't been successful in getting message posted lately.

As I am working on the genealogy of my family, I was thrilled to find so much interesting information about the Penfolds because Charles Somerset Penfold was my g-g-g-grandfather, and a direct descendant of the original Richard Penfold himself. Your hard work and research on everything to do with Angmering is sincerely appreciated, and has made this an enjoyable site for the rest of us to navigate. I hope to visit Angmering in the not-too-distant future!

Comments:Wonderful website about an obviously beautiful village.

Am particularly interested in the family history information - and would love to express my great appreciation to all the hard work which I know would have gone into it. My particular interest is in my ancestors the Drewetts and Knowles who show up in the late 1600 and 1700's. Although I have viewed the parish registers through this site I have gathered so much more information which I would have been unaware was available without many more 'fishing expeditions' in various records.

Thanks again and we hope to visit the village later this year when we visit the UK.

Comments:The web site is wonderfull but what a shame it has not been working for the last three days. I have been trying to get into it to see when the next meeting would be as I wanted to come along. It was just my luck to miss the meeting on 31st April. Still Im glad to get on now. Please can you tell me if there will be a
Fun Day ,a
Society Craft Day
or a Village Craft Day This year and if so what are the dates. I have made a note of the next meeting on the 20th of April and plan to be there.
Many thanks .

Su Carter
