I grew up in Angmering and attended Olders School in the 1950s. My maiden name was Parsons and my family had lived in the village for generations, alas I was the last of the line.I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me from those schooldays.

Comments:Very interesting site. My grandfather was posted to Angmering as a Policeman sometime after the Boer War . He was in Worthing in 1906. My mother born 1908 was at Angmering Olders Charity school as she had a Standard 8 reference from the Headmaster. I know that she corresponded with Ivy ? for many years ( a school friend).
Has anybody any information of this period?
Many thanks Sue E

Comments:Hi,

I've just started research on my mother's family history. Her mother was Dorothy Charlotte Tompkins and her father was Charles Russell Tompkins, son of John Cole Tompkins. I've discovered that the Tompkins were farmers in Poling and Angmering. I would like to know more about their roots. If anyone has any background information on the Tompkins I would really appreciate it. This site is a goldmine - I have already delved into the census's from 1841 onwards but if anyone can take me back further? Any images would be appreciated too - such as gravestones, farms, etc.

Please contact me via email address. Many thanks - Tim Hannah

Comments:Hello

I moved to Angmering last year and have been interested to find a bit more out about my grandad who was a black smith with his dad in Angmering village. I did a search on his name - William Lansdell - it came up on the index but I couldn't find any 'reminiscing' articles about him. Still trawling through the photos, hoping I'll find photos of him at work.

If anyone can help, it would be great.

Thanks
Ami

E-mail address: Verauk2002@yahoo.co.uk
Comments:I am trying to find out more about my great grandmother who was born at Angmering around 1854/1855. It is a difficult search as Amy had three surnames during her life and we are unsure what her maiden name was. At some time she had the surname of Hills, and she had a son William Hills then at some time her name change to Roberts and she had my grandmother Lily Roberts 1884 in Brighton and she was still known as Amy Roberts on the 1911 census. However, after 1911 and before her death in 1933 she married a James Wright. At the time of the 1911 census and until her death Amy was living in Small Dole Upper Beeding Sussex.

Is there anyone in Angmering who can help me find Amy's family.

Yours sincerely
Vera Coombs

I love to follow the progress of the village and find out what's happening.

My parents, Peter and Vera Penn, send their regards to anyone that may remember them from long ago.
They are now in their eighties, and plodding along slowly.

Thanks for such a fine, informative site.
It keeps those of us who will probably never get the opportunity to return to Angmering, a way of keeping in touch with the lovely village (where I was born.)

Bye for now,

My grandfather's brother Harry Edward BEMAN owned the grocer shop (& Post Office) 1910-1922, and had daughter Winifred WHITING. Any stories, anecdotes, information etc., relating to Harry, Winifred or relatives from that time would be gratefully received to add to my Family History research.

I'm doing some research into possible places to move to with my two young sons, and your site is, by a mile, the best local guide for any of the areas I've looked at so far. Came upon it during family history research - of course! - most of my mothers family came from the Worthing area, including West Tarring, Heene, etc, with some links to Angmering. Names included Ball, Carter, Grevatt, Bone, Berry, etc.

Although I no longer live in Sussex, I still have fond childhood memories of the time when we lived, during the war, near Felpham when my grandfather was stationed with the RAF at Ford.

All best wishes.

Comments:Having looked at the wonderful collection of old village photographs I have to admit being directly related to the Terry family who lived in the house next to the Lamb. The family is described as 'enormous, there having been 17 children!' Actually there were 18 altogether, my father Harry, who was known in the village as 'Brusher' was the 18th and he died at the age of 92 a few years ago. What came as a great surprise to me were the two photographs of the crenelated house next to the Lamb where my Grandfather James and his wife Edith raised their family. I had not seen either photograph before and I would dearly like to obtain copies of them for my family records. Can anyone tell me how I can get hold of them? The Terrys have often been described as eccentric characters. James was the Village butcher and Edith, who always wore a man's hat ran a local newspaper business of sorts. I am always anxious to learn more about this rather strange family so if anyone can tell me more I would be most interested

Comments:Wonderful website about an obviously beautiful village.

Am particularly interested in the family history information - and would love to express my great appreciation to all the hard work which I know would have gone into it. My particular interest is in my ancestors the Drewetts and Knowles who show up in the late 1600 and 1700's. Although I have viewed the parish registers through this site I have gathered so much more information which I would have been unaware was available without many more 'fishing expeditions' in various records.

Thanks again and we hope to visit the village later this year when we visit the UK.
