cory - When: last year i heard - Age: too young - Where: seattle

During my time on broadway as a homeless heroin cocaine addict i met alot of people...but none like Cory.the longer you are out there the less integrity you wind up with....i left the steet with not a scrap. but i know Cory was one in a million, you could hand him your money and he would come back with what he said he would. when i had a stroke from hitting the artery in my neck cory prayed with me and refused to rip me off,wich others wanted to do that were there...that was my second stroke and the first time i was ripped off by a so called friend while i was immobile.that was the kind of friend cory was.he never lost his generous loving soul to the drugs...like so many of us have.i loved cory as a brother.he was the only one i trusted out there,and the only one i never did wrong.i dont understand why someone so awesome and beautiful could lose his life while someone like me who would have ripped off God if given the chance is still alive and well ,clean and sober living a wonderful life with a new family.if anyone deservered a chance at a clean slate i would have thought it to be cory.Gena im so sorry.

Brando - When: spring 2006 - Age: 19 - Where: Struck by a car while hitch-hiking down the 101

You thought you were so fine and you were with your superior attitude and snaglle-toothed smile. You were special and shone like a supernova. The world is a little darker in you absence.

//Liz Rutherford

Amy, if you see this i am so sorry. I loved him, too, and can't believe i'll never see him again.

Preston Dale Clingman - When: November 16 1996 - Age: 23 - Where: Seattle, Washington

Preston was a beloved son who became lost in the quest. Preston was prone to depression, and while requiring medication to aid in his treatment, rarely took it, and instead utilized alcohol and other depressants that compounded his issue. Preston was my friend, and though we differed on issues, he honored my intolerance of his abuses. I will recall him as a loving son, engaged in good, until he became confused and lost in his addictions. I will remember his friends as trying to help him, particularly Lyle, on the day I found Preston at the Pike street market. Fred

Preston was born in Anchorage, Alaska on November 6, 1973. He was a strong healthy youngster, he was a loving family member, concerned about those he loved. He was physically small frame, but handsome, likeable, and pleasant to be around. He died at his own hand, in a business back yard in Seattle, WA using a gun purchased from an acquaintance.

Preston Clingman - When: November 1996 - Age: 20 - Where: Seattle, WA

Remembering the good times we (myself, Lyle, Shane & Naomi) had with you. You chose the easy way out so those good times are gone. We were your friends Preston and we did and always will love you.

Arthur Mataya - When: The week of November 23, 2003 - Age: 50's - Where: In a shed a friend of a friend let him stay in. Arthur had been homeless for a few months.

Arthur was a wonderful bright warm vibrant man. He was a wonderful conversationalist. He always had a smile and was a very playful person. As a young man, he was noted to be an acrobatic type. Like many homeless people, Arthur had suffered extreme physical abuse by his father as a child. He ran away from home to stop the abuse and was institutionalized. He did experience happiness for a good deal of his mid life, married to his beloved Loretta. They lived together for almost twenty years. Ultimately, a society that does not properly care for individuals with chronic psychiatric diagnoses is responsible for the death of Arthur Mataya.

Jimmy Essex - When: 12/05/2003 - Age: 53 - Where: Behind the West Los Angeles library, next to the courthouse.

Jim was a great friend, a generous soul, and a joy to spend time with, in the harsh reality of homelesness. I will miss him.

//Jay Esposito

Jim was in Viet Nam during the TET offensive. He lost 9 of 12 men under his command, and was severely injured himself in an ambush. He blamed himself, and had a tortured soul. In spite of that, he was a good companion. I found him after a nap we took outside. May he rest in peace.

I am so tired of writing names on our memorial list as one after another exist no more. Some I knew deeply, others I knew only in passing and still others I never had a chance to meet. The world seems so small at times. Sorry to flood your page but this being the week before national homeless memorial day 2002 I thought I would be the first to christen your page. Whatdaya think of me now?

8 memorials have been posted in this book so far. Many entries were lost when previous guestbook providers folded.

Thousands die each year unrecorded. Please take a moment to pray, in whatever your own faith or ceremony, that no-one will ever die homeless again.
