Comments:I foumd your web-site while searching for locations to photograph some costumes. I am the Head of Costume at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney. We have three 1930's evening dresses that our Costume students have made and wish to photograph them in a suitably Art Deco environment. Many places want to charge us and I'm afraid that we don't have the money to pay. Somewhere elegant (a bar, the balcony of a house etc.) where they can pose sipping cocktails or looking elegant. Any suggestions or offers. Many thanks. Fiona

Comments:I would like to have the city of Newcastle made aware how much Artdeco it has and how it should be preserved.

We are just starting the kind of development push that has caused such destruction elsewhere. Please let them know we care and push for maximum care to enforce heritage and height and bulk guidelines so the existing buildings are still in sight from harbour for tours and are not treated unsympathetically. I am happy to report the Bank Corner is being renovated and I attended a very interesting history lecture there. Visit Newcastle for great antiques shops too..

just looked at Rose Bay Kings - will not be a cinema again,
however should retain facade, ceilings, and some deco etc.

Comments:Any intention to destroy the MCA building is yet another
ignorant one thast overlooks the significant conribution art
deco buildings play in the built environment.

In Adelaide, we have less than a dozen art deco buildings of
note in the city square mile. yet just a few months ago the
Adelaide City Council voted to demolish the splendid Metro
Cinema in Hindly St! These building contribute to the
diversity of the street character. We don't just want to
preserve Victorian achitecture, but 20th century achitecture
as well!

Don't let them do it!!

Comments:I am outraged at the proposal to 'revamp' or possibly
demolish the former Maritime Services Board building at
west Circular Quay. This is an imposing and distinctive
building and an essential part of the character of Circular
Quay. It should not be shoved under a coffee table or
pulled down to be replaced with another postmodern
nonentity. Why on earth should the building be destroyed
because the facility it houses isn't viable? The issue of
how much public money should go into supporting a
contemporary arts museum that only a small section of the
public is interested in is another issue entirely. And why
the fate of this fine old building is being challenged by
something as temporal and unremarkable as Frank Sartor is
beyond me.

demolision of the MCA building.
This building is part of circular Quay and is creates an
ideal visual entry to the rocks area.
I can not believe that this building could be removed. I am
sure that the community if consulted would prefer it to
stay and not be redeveloped.

Australia's inability to take some aspects of its history,

A group of Rio de Janeiro architects, including me, have

Dear, Tom Misner.
I apologize for English, but I hope to you it will be
clear.
Some time back I have returned in Australian embassy in
Moscow the project based on architecture Opera House, but I
already for a long time do not receive the answer.
I have decided to address directly to you (probably it
was necessary to make at once), I expect to have be in time
to make this project during realization in Sydney of
Olympic Games 2000.
Me call Andrew Shevchenko, I the artist, I work in a
modern direction art and advertising. Recently I prepare
the projects connected with architecture of different
countries, I offer to the people to see modern and
historical architecture with new points of view from the
point of view of.
The architecture Opera House is interesting and is
surprising, at me the project, which was born, will attract
additional attention to Opera House. I offer to create
large cloths (it is possible to make in a publicity agents,
where is plotter) and to stretch them on a roof Opera
House. http://www.aha.ru/~andreysh/operah.htm
The similar project will be interesting to all world,
it will cause additional tourist interest to Opera House
and Sydney. If to be in time it to make during realization
of Olympic games, it will be seen by the journalists and TV
from all world, which will be on an Olympiad.
I always attract the sponsors for realization of the
projects. I am sure, that the largest problem on it to
receive not money of the sponsors, but sanction from you
(or from authorities of city) on realization it art
project. The various sponsors are interested in the similar
scale projects (especially during an Olympiad).
I think you will see perspectives connected with this
project. Then it is possible to change images and to have a
new kind Opera House.
Now I plan to work with other countries in which
architectural monuments to me are interesting, but me would
like to make this project with Opera House during an
Olympiad.
I understand that a lot of organizing work and the time
is necessary, but I already for a long time do not receive
the answer from embassy of Australia in Moscow and has lost
a lot of time, but if the circumstances will be good we
shall have time.
It is interesting to me to know your judgment about
this project. It is very important to me to have your
interest.
