If you have anything on the Ewell family who lived in Albemarle County, I'd be deeply interested in reviewing to see if it leads to my Ewell line who went to Kentucky. |

| Comments: | Sharon,
My husband and I just found bats in our attic this week. We live in Richmond so we were able to track down a very bat-friendly control service who taught us a lot about bats & their needs. Lst night we went out at twilight to see how many bats were in this maternal colony, and we counted 63 in 10 minutes. That's just the moms of course, and they are taking care of at least 7 babies (that we saw with the batman earlier in the day in our attic). Now I even hate to encourage this bat colony to move. They are such wonderful little weird animals. And seeing your videos of feeding the little bat orphans really helped me learn more about them. Thank you so much. |

| Comments: | Hello! I love your art site! I'm an art teacher moving to middle school next year after ten years in elementary. I very happy to make this move and hope to work with secondary artists (middle/high school) for the remainder of my career. My primary focus is beginning art for 6th/7th and a few 8th graders. I'm in an old technology room with carpet and I'm working with another art teacher. She has the art room. I've been asked to do "non-messy" projects (ha!). I'm going to focus on elements of art/design with a variety of drawing, multimedia projects. Any suggestions or favorite lessons would be appreciated.
Thanks so much-

| Comments: | Dear Sharon,
Just happened onto your genealogy site through Google. Our family has been looking for our Dillard gg and ggg grandfather Joseph Dillard and his wife Milly for over 30 years. But...there are so many Josephs!!!
I now am 60 years old. When I was a child, from time to time my father and I would talk family names. He told me Holloway, Higginbotham, Pettit or Pettus, Beason, and a few others that I can't recall at the moment. (Records not in front of me)The only true record, known for sure, is an 1850 Census Record for Richland Twp, Scott Co. AR or MO.
In this record he is shown to be born in Raliegh, Wake Co., NC in 1775 of which that date works out with his age on that Census. His wife Milly, born in the same place, but in 1787, and we are fairly certain that Vermillion fits in her name somehow, shows her age to fit with that date, also. They show 5 children beginning in 1819, then 1824, 1826, 1828, and 1831. Caleb Ervin, Thomas Green Berry, Joseph M., James, and America J. Dillard fitting those respective dates. Thomas G.B. is my line. If Joseph and Milly started late in life these may be the only children, but...did they???
Here's the kicker....your Joseph has the Holloway, Higginbotham and Pettus names in the line down to him. Haven't found another Joseph to be so close in birthdate than yours of 1776. Do you have a concrete death cert on your Joseph and a concrete birth record for VA????
Our Joseph was supposed to have been born in NC, traveled later to TN and then on to IL, MO, and AR where he is to have died around 1854-60. He and Milly's children were all born in MO save for Caleb who was born in IL. I have not found any more Caleb Dillards prior to him. One of his son's has Caleb in his.
Would love to hear more about your Dillards and see if there is any further connection between our lines. Please let me know if you have any light to shed or not.
Thank you,
|

There were a couple Rhodes and Rodes in Barren County, Ky that appear to be from this Rhodes family. My G Grandfather, Joshua Bean Rhodes, had a brother named Robert P. Rhodes. I saw where Matthew Rhodes, son of John Rhodes, had a son named Robert P. Rhodes. Don't know, if there is a connection.
Any leads are appreciated. Thanks, again! |

The first one at the phlox is indeed a Hemaris thysbe, but the second one with black legs and a black band through its eye and down across its abdomen is another similar species - Hemaris diffinis, the Snowberry Clearwing Moth. |

| Comments: | Hi there.
I just got through reading your "How'd I ever get involved in Contra Dance?" intro page and it brought back some good memories of my own and the continual memories I see formed when calling to newcomers (at least, most of the time.) Tell Rick and Becky that their "Bean King" party locale looked to be a *fine* place to have a jam session & maybe a dance...I remember them both from these parts (Southern Indiana) and have a tape or two somewhere in the collection of Rick playing at "John & Eloise's Nuptial Dance Weekend" back in 1991, I believe. I'll have to dig it out and listen to it tonight over dinner. This Spring will be the 20th Anniversary of my getting involved in Contra Dance and I remember strongly what it was like to be a beginner, something I try not to forget when I'm calling. My schedule for that activity has been changed for the first several months of this year, however, due to a medical emergency that will have me on the mend for a while. It's recovery time, but I'm putting that time to good use by making copies of all of the dances I use or have written and I'm plunking around on some of the instruments I've collected over the years. Too bad I can't draw! Anyhoo, thanks for the photos, the comments and for bein' a friend of Rick and Becky.
Cheers,
Mark Richardson

I loved your account of your first contra dance. I hope you don't mind, but I put a link on my own blog about contradancing. (My blog is called "Acoustic Bob's Song & Dance.") It's also about playing music. I've been contradancing for a while now, but I just recently played guitar in my first ever contradance band. I love the dancing, but the playing for the dancers is a thrill, too.
If you'd like to check out my blog, it's at

I'm using your story as an example of how you can just show up, not know anyone there, never contra-danced in your life, and still have the time of your life.
Your description of how it feels when you first start getting it right and seeing (and feeling) how it all fits together in a nice flow is right on target. |

| Comments: | As a first year drama teacher, I have wanted to do a face-casting, maskmaking unit all year long. Finally we are doing a play where masks make sense as part of the production. Thanks so much for your tips on face-casting! We'll be using them.
I'll also order the Dick Blick materials through your shopping zone.
Cheers!

Loved the animal advocacy too. Our dogs are all rescues--favorite charities, too.

| Comments: | In your "Descendants of Alexander Colvin" genealogy section, I found the names of my ggg grandparents: Mary Ann Colvin b: 7 December 1789 (per her tombstone) and her husband Samuel Ritter b: 12 August 1791. Based on the Albermarle County Marriage Records, they married on 4 December 1813. They purchased land in Harrison County, Virginia (now WV) in 1829 and reared 7 children. Mary died 25 June 1870, and Samuel died 17 March 1876. They are buried on their former property in Harrison County. We're leaving for the summer tomorrow, so if you're interested in more info, I can get back to you in August. I loved your site! Susan |
