Maintained the Bomb Navigator recording camera and the strike camera located just behind the bomb bay. Enjoyed being part of SAC and working on the B-52s. We really appreciated the responce to all the DREAMBOOK recipients. It's difficult to sit here helplessly( as family of a VETERAN) & not able to contact those VIETNAM ERA military BUDS & ASSOCIATES they once knew & stood shoulder to shoulder with. The side effects of AGENT ORANGE & other HERBICIDES.... play a role in our love ones lives. Believe me just a phone call, an email, a card, is GREATLY APPRECIATED. (I'm SURE YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE without being put on the spot) Running into BUDS in our own cities & towns is very rewarding & calls from out of the area... Does anyone live in OREGON ? who served in MINOT, N.D. 1964-1968 ? Thank You for VOICING "ALL" your EXPERIENCES & concerns. AIRCRAFT PILOTS, Administration Personnal,COOKS,Engineers, Machanics, ETC..... It's nice to stay in touch & connect with people & Buddies who are in the know....share the LAUGHTER & MORE. ANY REUNIONS PLANNED by any of you from MINOT, N.D. during the VIETNAM ERA? ANY WIVES that can share war stories....themselves or of their relatives ? Anyone in the NCOA (non commission officers of America) & the DAV DISABLED VETERANS of America. "Thank You All For Serving" Resectfully Wife of Vietnam Era Veteran |

Reading this list looks like Im the olderest. Age 66. I first assembly the 750 pounders in the Jungles Revetments 12-16 hours a day 7 days a weeks. I think we along with Westover AFB were one of the first there. Monsoon season. We worked our ass off and loved every minute. Had a typhoon evac. I stayed most went to Okinawa. We had a lot of freak accidents. One guy got shot dont know why , bombs roling in the revetments and breaking legs..We moved to the Igloo's after that. Thats where I swear we saw chemical barrels. After 44 years my best buddy and I got together Jim Mills he went to Viet Nam for me cause I had 3 months left and a pregnant wife. Jim made it back good. but he remembers barrels in Guam. I say this cause I read a lot about agent orange over there even PRIOR to 1960 like after Korea so One guy listed here is saying her strayed it in the late 60's Well I now have Lung cancer that attacked my nervous system and wrapped around my ribs. now have heart disease and 3 bipasses . I CAN'T GET ANYONE IN THE MEDICAL FIELD OR VA TO TALK ABOUT ANYTHIGN SERIOULY. I can home with my wrapped in plastic cause the skin rotted off but they have no record of it . ???? you've heard that before |

He was flying a night time simulated low level bombing run thru the Flint Rock Oil Burner run where the plane crashed. Prior to this flight, there were several request to check the ground avoidance equipment. Plane crashed on a level flight hitting a knoll. Wanted comments on how reliable this equipment was back then. Equipment was replaced the day before the flight. |

Many issues, like failed hydraulics for flaps or landing gear or like a hung bomb on the wing. But she always got us down to safety again. I'm proud to have served with all the guys that made it happen. |

I am wondering also where a particular B52B model is. I was at Chanute AFB for Tech School in '88 and the City if Riverside was there along with a B36 across the road. I have looked on google maps and the vast majority of the aircraft are gone. Do you have any idea where that B52 ended up. It was the first B52 assigned to March AFB |

| Comments->: | After my tour of duty was completed at U-Tapao, Thailand with the 635th SPS K-9 in 1973, in May 73, I returned state side to Bergstrum AFB, Austin, Texas PCS to det 1, 96th Bomb Wing SAC. On Arrival we had no aircraft and were moved TDY to other AF Bases. Myself along with four other airmen were sent to Andersen AFB, GUAM, I was assigned to the canine kennels to work kennel support. My job was to dispense medication to some and feed MSD to all other canines. I recall one dog that would keep his food pan and not give it up for anything. I cleaning the kennels and made sure dogs had water. We kept a log book and tried to keep things clean. I recall we had rented a car and drove around the Island. I recall a road that went down to the beach and happy we made down the long drop to the beach. Saw the Navy ships in port and some outstanding views. I recall a memorial where during WWII the US Marines had taken back the island a landing point. Old WWII guns could be found overlooking the town of Guam. My 6 Mo. tour was cut short after 4 Months and returned to Bergstrum AFB. On my return we had (2) B-52's and (2) KC-135, fly gas stations. If you ever go to GUAM, rent a car and drive around the island you will never forget, nor the wonderful scenic views, the kindness of the people away from the base. Take along a camera and swim suite. This was in 1973, wish I had kepted a Journal of all tours, address, units, bases and friends made along the way. |

WANTED TO CHANGE AFSC's TO BE A CREW MEMBER ON C-141s AS A LOADMASTER. I SERVED IN REMOTE ALASKA IN 67/68 WITH THE 718TH ACW. THEN TO 12TFW/12TH SUPPLY SQDN/DELIVERY SECT. CAM RANH BAY APR68/APR69 THEN ON TO 4531ST SUPPLY, HOMESTEAD AFB,APRIL 68/DISCHARGE OCT70. DOES ANYBODY REMEMBER IF HOMESTEAD 4531ST WON THE DEDALION AWARD IN 69 OR WAS IT BEST IN TAC? WAS PROVOKEING WHEN THE CUBAN MIG LANDED ON BASE AND EVERYONE THOUGHT IT WAS AN F-86.
MY BROTHER DAVE WAS STATIONED AT FAIRCHILD AFB IN THE MID 50s AS AN ENGINE MECHANIC FOR THE NEWLY ARRIVING B-52. HE SAT AROUND FOR WEEKS AS THE TRANSITION FROM B-36s TO B-52s WAS FINISHED.I BELIEVE HE TRAINED AT RANDOLPH W/ B-47s. HE WAS WITH THE 427TH BOMB SQDN AT FAIRCHILD AND WAS THERE WHEN A LARGE LUMBERYARD BURNT UP AND THE VOLUNTEERS FROM THE BASE WENT TO AID IN FIGHTING THE FIRE. WE BOTH WOULD ENJOY A SHOUT FROM ANYONE THAT MAY HAVE SERVED AT THE TIME OF OUR SERVICE. THOSE DAYS AND MEMORIES LIVE ON DON'T THEY? DAVE RESIDES NEAR BUFFALO,NY AND I AM IN CULPEPER,VIRGINIA. |

There was also a squadron of F-102 interceptors. 482nd FIS I recall. The 4th Fighter Wing owned the base and had F100s when I got there and F105s when I left. At that time it was a busy place. |

| Comments->: | So it’s really been a long time since I was in the A.F. (Oct. 65 to Oct. 69) I like to check in on the rest of the SAC trained killers on this web site from time to time. It seems like you guys are mostly old farts like me. Right after I got on flying status I took a TDY up to Westover Mass. to support some big thing going to happen in Spain or somewhere. Any way we landed on an empty base because all of Westover A.F.B. was doing Arclight I guess you could say. Anyway, it’s Sunday afternoon and the flight crew leaves so it’s just me and the crew chief standing there out in the middle of nowhere. In about 2 minutes, the OMS truck shows up and this TSGT says who are you guys? Where are you from? BLAH! BLAH! BLAH! He tells the crew chief to jump in; I want to show you something. He said to me “we’ll be right back” and he tells me “and park that tanker coming down the ramp” I said “Hey wait a minute I am a jet mechanic I don’t park airplanes”. By that time he was already gone, so I’ve been on this base less than 5 minutes, I am alone on a huge flat empty airplane parking lot, and there’s a KC-135 taxiing towards me. I felt like Cary Grant in that movie “North by Northwest”. Man, did I ever fake my way through that, after the ACFT stopped the A/C just stared out the window at me like “who the hell is that idiot”? Anyway, I never made it to Spain with Tail No. 604 (she was our lead the fleet bird). I took the Westover courier (AC-97) down to Charleston A.F.B. then took the Ramey courier (A C-54) down to Ramey. Back in those days, you could travel all up and down the Eastern Seaboard using those two planes but most of you, guys knew that.
In June of 69 my wife was in the Ramey Hospital trying to give birth, she had been in there eight days and nothing doing, the baby just wouldn’t come out. It was Sat the 27th and I had been putting off flying that month until she had the baby. Now it’s the last day to fly, if I don’t get four flying hours no flight pay. I went to see my wife before the flight and she was all “It looks nothing’s going to happen tonight any way so just go fly and don’t worry about it. Then the hospital Chaplin came by and we all talked a little bit. He said lots of babies are born during a full moon. I said nice talking to you not knowing what he meant. So the mission was to refuel a Puerto Rican A.N.G. F-104. . .that means using a drough. During the refueling, (the A/C was Major Anthony Vatalie), I went down to the boom pod to watch the refueling. It was eventful . The drough broke in half and gave the 104 a JP4 bath. He broke off but didn’t catch on fire. So while I ‘am watching this happen I see this big full moon that the Chaplin was talking about, afterword I went to the jet shop to call the hospital and the nurse said congratulations your wife had a boy! We named him Daniel Anthony and I heard Major Vatalie got promoted the next cycle. I don’t mean to minimize real war stories because there were lots of those but I remember lots of good times too. I know it wasn’t all good but the 72nd Bomb Wing was a good outfit. I heard all the G models bombed Laos and Cambodia. Well what are you going to do? I am putting pen to paper to tell this little story, my computer skills are minimal, my wife (the same one from before) will type it in for me. E-4 William Nicholson, Lackland P.C.S., Chanute, Beale, Ramey, Travis; TDY: Homestead, McCoy, Westover, and Anderson. |

| Comments->: | Got to Glasgow from Tech School (Pneudraulics) in June 1966 just before they left for sunny Guam. Got left behind and thought I had it made but got sent to Elsworth AFB South Dakota for 6 months working with the 28th FMS Hydraulic Shop.
Went to Kadena for 4 months when the Pueblo was captured. Returned to Glasgow in time for it to close and got shipped to Little Rock and the B-58's. When they retired the 58's (in 70) I got out. Been reading the "Crew Dog" series by Tommy Towery. Very good descriptions of the B52 and how it was used. |

| Comments->: | What a great find. I was an aircraft electrician from Aug. 66 to July 70. After tech school at Chanute AFB was stationed at Mather AFB in Sacramento, CA. Can't recall the Sac wing there I was attached to. Worked on B52's F and G aircraft and also on KC135's. Went to U-Tapao in Thailand from July69 to July70. Worked only on B52 D aircraft there. Even though it was a lot of hard work I wouldn't trade a minute of it. Met a lot of great guys there both to work with and socialize with. Was attached to the 307th FMS at U-Tapao. |

| Comments->: | Just recently discovered this wonderful site dedicated to the BUF. I was an electrician AFSC:423X0 on "H" models at Homestead AFB 1966-1968 then PCS 18mo to Andersen AFB Guam where I transitioned to the "D" models. Worked many long hard hours in Guam and loved every minute of it. Was assigned to 8th AF, 19th Bomb Wing at Homestead then 2nd AF 3960 CAMS in GUAM. (Don't recall our wing # but might have been 47th) I served with finest people I have ever know and long to hear from anyone who served during my tours at either Homestead & Andersen. I did my Tech School at Chanute in 54th Student Squadron under the infamous S.Sgt Mayo. |

| Comments->: | I have many fond memories of time spent @ Lackland, Chanute and Kincheloe Jan.1973-Nov.1975. Apprehended for indecent exposure 1974 in Kincheloe Alert Pad parking lot (off duty helping my pal Terry Taylor work on his BMW RS750.) Took what I thought was a discreet whiz next to my van, but was seen by an officer's wife in one of the trailers used for flight crew's family visits. She called the MPs and I was hauled over to the cop shop where, after a severe ass-chewing, I was released DUE TO LACK OF EVIDENCE. I swear, that's what the man said. Made buck SGT. Nov.1 1975 and attended Commanders breakfast where I had my ass chewed for wearing short sleeves (with my new stripes)on a cold weather base after Nov.1. During one period I spent so much time on the alert pad that when I returned to Bomber Branch the new Branch NONCOM didn't know who I was. There's a dozen more,I hadn't thought about this stuff for years. I never really liked being in the AF, but I sure loved working on those BUFs. Would like to contact Victor McBride, Terry Taylor, Glen Miller and Capt.Zack (nickname,I think)Tomzack. |
