| Comments: I think Set is a very interesting god. As far as I know, he's the only Egyptian god who is either bisexual or homosexual. As an openly gay adult man I can relate to that very much. The life-after-death model that is proposed by Don Webb is not that unique however. He mentions that the goal of the Setian is to become an Immortal Essence, but that is really the goal of ALL religions. Christians, for example, are always carrying on about how they will live forever through their lord Jesus Christ. Every religion promises to get rid of death or at least our fear of death. I would not join any religion with the expectation of becoming immortal since we don't even know for sure if immortality is possible in this universe. If I did apply for membership in the Temple of Set it would be for only one reason: Set is just an amazing concept/being/idea or whatever you want to call him. Set is pure rebellion against the cosmic machine, the cosmic bullshit. And indeed the universe really is full of bullshit. Most of the world is very unfair. And Set is one of the defiant, rebellious, antinomian spirits that goes against the injustices that are built into the fabric of our world. Even an atheist has to admire that type of spirit! I'm still not certain about membership in the Temple of Set however. I think Set was around long before the Temple of Set opened its doors, and Set will probably be around long after the Temple of Set closes its doors. I think one can be a Setian without belonging to any group or temple or church or coven. People nowadays are kind of obsessed with group memberships and group affiliations and the like. Your brain and heart are more important than all the membership cards that you carry in your purse or wallet. That's how I see it at any rate. | |

In Setian Magic does one use Magical tools Such as a sword or dagger or chalice and a pentagram on the wall in any direction? 2. does the Temple believe Set as a real being? The reasons I ask these things are because there are some things that I feel attached to, and there are some things I would like to change on my path. I do'nt understand why the C.o.S would have a church in the name of Satan and not beleive in such a being. I do beleive that there really is a Lord of Darkness and that is is a mutual respect. While I have a good image of the ToS, I find this type of behaviour 'improper' ( Not from a 'moral' point of view, mind you ) for someone who seems to be a somewhat high-ranking Setian : "Blood traveled to California the following month and had a sexual affair with Seago in Santa Barbara, after which he showed friends a photo he had taken of her sitting on his bed in her brassiere. [Seago is mentioned in the acknowledgements in Blood's book.]" Of course, you could say that a person's sexual affairs shouldn't be any considerations to others. but since this info is given here, and given that in spiritual matters, every action of a person matters in understanding what type of a person he is. Personally, I do not think it paints a good picture of a Setian who go thorugh this site. If it was CoS, it wouldn't matter, but this is the ToS. Of course, people shouldn't be getting ideas form just one comment, but that's what most people do. |

I come from what i would call a "loose" christian background, but like many others have found it a rather unsatisifying experience. In picking up a book on Satanism, i found the name of the Temple of Set. I went to the main site and found the ideas there quite intriguing and in sync with my own. I then hunted down this site and once again was amazed at the resonation between my ideas and the Temple's. The idea of so many intellectual people exchanging ideas and practicing magic is quite attractive to me. But i do have a few questions before applying to the Temple and was wondering if i might come into contact with a member or possibly even a Priest, who, after answering my questions might be interested in Sponsoring my application to the Temple. | Comments: I grew up around an extended family that was very active in the christian church. I myself always felt an instinctive repulsion to the clammy Herd quality of it, and was quite happy to stand apart from, even as a child. Later, being a person of experimental and adventurous disposition (plus weakened by a premature move to a decadence mecca of the country) I briefly succumbed to the born-again virus, and, after digesting it thoroughly, rejected it as a most destructive form of self deception, denial of reality, weariness, and longing for non existence. I then went on to devour the philosophy of Friederich Nietzsche, Ayn Rand, and others of the This-World, This-Life persuasion. I found I was born for philosophy, and started writing my own books - because I enjoyed it!
One should affirm and create as one denies and destroys, so I have long sought my way forward to being...what exactly? I realized that my whole life was a desire to be a wizard, a sorceror, not a movie caricature, but the real thing, whatever that entailed. What better way to experience this life than to manifest your inner designs upon the surrounding world, to develope one's own will to power to its maximum? To call what I am after "sorcery" is to open a new understanding of what I have always done, and always aimed for. I am by nature a lone wolf, and prefer solitude in my own Alterworld. I am looking for a way to learn through affiliation with other individuals, without the negative aspects of "groupism" getting in the way. I am seriously considering taking the plunge with the Temple of Set. It is time to Come Forth. I am compatible with everything I have read concerning the temple, except for one specific theological issue. Should that be a barrier? | Comments: I became disillusioned with Wicca a few years ago and started looking for what I knew was out there. I could feel what I was looking for, but didn't know what to call it. A dear friend of mine loaned me one of Lavey's books which I was hesitant to read. I had always been told to stay away from those. Amazing how alike Wicca and Xianity are when it comes to pushing away anything that allows the individual to truly think for themselves. Anyway, once I got into the book, I started researching online and found Xeper.org. I do like this site better because of the large amount of info and straightforward approach. I don't feel quite so stupid here.
I would like very much to learn more. I feel as if I've just barely dipped my toe into a vast pool of knowledge. I'm very happy with what I've learned thus far and I'm looking forward to more. |

It was an A+ paper which I did receive the grade for and was actually asked to read it in front of our state congress. I am one of those types who believe the Bible was written by a group of men to further their own power base. It's prejudiced, violent and stupid, although there are some nice ideas. | Comments: It's interesting to note that the entire notion of 'isolate intelligence' as it concerns the individual 'Self' begins, within the LHP, with a number of speculations and assumptions that, once coupled to the RHP/LHP dichotomoy, appear shortsighted and misleading in terms of the 'final state' of one travelling such a LHP path toward actualizing an individual, isolate intelligence and Self. One highly debatable assumption is that the objective universe exists outside of a Source bringing it into manifestation. Because the waking consciousness of the individual 'parts' within the objective universe perceive themselves to be not only separate from one another within the objective unvierse, they also assume themslves to be, or capable of, actualizing a Higher Self which is also individual and, of course, separate from the objective universe. The irony here, of course, is that trying to actualize such a reality leads one not toward greater isolation from the Cosmos in individual terms, but toward greater enmeshment and eventual contraction as an individual 'part' of the thing one is trying to free themselves from. This, then, brings up the entire issue of RHP attempts to 'merge' with the Cosmos, God, or otherwise something 'outside themselves' in orde to actualize a 'higher state of consciousness' or 'higher Self'. While this is clearly true in many instances, the reality of one being separate, in higher Self terms, from God, or 'outside' one's Source is not at all the goal or understanding of many traditions labelled RHP -- Islam, for instance. In reality, the LHP practitioner who believes, as Don Webb states, 'All will conform to me' as this applies to the trajectory of actualizing an individualized, isolate intelligence and one's attendant actions in the objective universe -- one actually ends up becoming a RHP 'object of worship' for the less aware. That one is still very much part and parcel of the objective universe, and sinking further into it -- cut off from the real Source of one's existence and one's Real Higher Self, which at the level of the Absolute SElf (the REAL Isolate Intelligence) is NOT and cannot be equated with the individualized parts manifested by this One -- will still allude the LHP 'i want to be a/the god' seeker. All does serve a purpose, though. >:) | |
