Please put in your mail with how many vans or cars you are coming, how many tents you're bringing and from what date you want to reserve a camping spot.
A camping spot will cost you 21 euro for 1 night.
Now you can notify us that you are coming to Splitbus Nation with your van
by clicking on this link http://vdubheaven.com/splitbusnation/memberlist.php.

You are right about the February Manual, I have it my self, and the factory plan was to move the spare, from right up standing, to laying over the engine, but they didn't have the time before presentation in 1950, there fore the first 5000 was delivered with the spare wheel up-right standing.
We / I have the information from an old factory "changes book"

Comments: Hello everybody,
gratulations for this nice homepage. I have one comment to the Sinalco Bus and to the question, where the sparewheel was placed. You wrote that the sparewheel was standing right to the engine. I have an original VW User Manual from February 1950, that means before the delivery started in March 1953. There are pictures inside with the sparewheel lying on top of the engine like all barndoors look like. So I think the sparewheel was never standing right beneeth the engine, except in early prototypes from 1949.
Bye, Manfred

On your "VW Literature" page show that "Lao poster" thumbnail. Actually it is Thailand poster(You correct headline in detail already but at the thumbnail still Lao).

Also I will tell you a secret of that poster. It's a remake poster.
They will do a photo copy of advertising from some old book and then soak it in coffee or tea for a while.
Let it dry and you will get it. You can find a lot in Thailand like vespa, lambretta,VW or coca-cola.
You can prove by your nose.:)

PS.Visit Chiangmai and take a cooking class with our school. I will pick you up with my VW van.

If anyone knows any of history of my bus, it would be great to hear from you. It was formerly owned by Shawn Shomody in Calgary/Canada, and Craig Gimbel (I have no contact details for Craig) in Salt Lake City/Utah/USA. Apparently before that it lived in Oregon, and was delivered originally to San Franscisco.

Great homepage you have! The Barndoor buses are very interesting, and your two ones look really good! I think they look best if they are in original condition.

But my favourite car is still the Steyr Puch Haflinger which was produced in Austria from 1959 till 1974 (see my home page). :)

Comments: I got here from a link in the Split Bus forum on theSamba.com. I spent way too much time browsing your site (I'm at work). I just couldn't resist though since the site is has so many good photos.
By the way, if anyone needs a factory service manual for a barndoor bus we now have one available.
http://www.bentleypublishers.com/product.htm?code=V262&subject=20
This manual is a high quality reprint that encompasses three original factory manuals (1954, 1955 and 1959 editions) and is currently in stock and available for $109.95 US from Bentley Publishers (e-mail: sales@bentleypublishers.com or purchase from the above link). I compiled the manual, got it produced, and really enjoyed working on the project. It was a lot more fun than the regular run-of-the-mill Golf, Jetta, Passat, etc. manuals that I usually work on.

Comments: I have recently started restoration on our microbus and thought i would have a look on the net at other projects around the world. Can not believe the prices of some.We brought ours for $1,600NZ,she was a fully decked out camper but the previous owner was rather feral and had to strip the entire inside to save the nostrils.I have done a fair bit of traveling around NZ in her and can not believe the smiles and waves from passers by,even kids waving the peace sign.A friend has recently sold her 67 combi, reconed motor, racing gearbox, but very rusty for $500nz, some how i dont think she quite knew what she had.

Comments: too late for the barndoor, but in time for the coming of age of the full range of T2. I remember this old barraks' ballad, switching from ol'soldiers to ol'Volks.

Ol'Volks never die. They only fade away, but some keep rolling.

Comments: My girlfriend and I picked up this beauty (Sheila) last as september and put back the heart and soul of this ol'gal. We rewired her from tip to tail and gutted her out and refinished each piece and slowly put her back together. After pulling the engine three times at my work, we decided to get some outside help and now ended up rebuilding from scratch.
She now purrs like a kitten and is ready to rock we decided to pack everything up and go to mexico/belize/etc for 6 months to a year and get some scuba diving in. Im sure we won't have too much trouble with the old girl as she's never left us stranded in the many trips we have taken together so far(the van I mean,ha ha)
If anyone has any experiance in driving to mexico the extra input and knowledge would be greatly appreciated. If no-one responds well we are still going to have a great time. We leave 1 st of April 2002. Thanks Mark & Heather
