thanks for your entry. Unfortunately, you will have a hard time finding a modern replacement bracelet for your -6059. Your best chance might be looking for beat-up -605x Bell-Matics on sales forums or at auction that have your bracelet.
Good luck!

an important consideration is the model number of the Bell-Matic. The 4006-xxxx number on the caseback. Or, the 4006-xxxx number on the dial at 6:00. That will hopefully tell you what dial replacement you are seeking.

Comments:I have a Seiko Bellmatic with a spinning dial, I tried gluing it to the watch, but the problem with that is that I glued it wrong. It has to be put in place down to the last 10th of a millimeter.

Then after I took off the dial again, I took a close look at the back of the dial and saw 2 spots where 2 stubs were attached to it, to my surprise, they were still in the movement, till I lost one of them in the carpet. I glued one of them back to the dial, BUT I guess I'm still stuck, ANYWAYS.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND A REPLACEMENT DIAL THAT WOULD FIT THIS BELLMATIC 4006 WATCH?!

Comments: john you have a great website, My bell-matic was a gift from my dad when I graduated from college. well, that was sixteen years ago, and up to this day it still keeps time, the bell still rings. Later my dad admited that my watch was previously repaired and all the hands were replaced, and now Iam having trouble finding a set of genuine hands for my watch. anyway the watch is still good and Iam glad that there's a site dedicated for this fine, classic work of art.

Comments:Hi, John,
really nice work with these pages about Bell-Matic!
When I first saw Seiko cal. 4006 back in 1978, I had french in school and always associated word "Bell" with it`s french meaning ("beautifull"), and it is exactly how I felt when looking it in store. Had to wait till 2009 to get one Bell-matic for myself and the word Bell still holds same meaning to me. A real beauty with ticking heart inside, which makes owner happy. Upward wishes, Igor

Vintage bracelets are scarce as hen's teeth, I am afraid. PMWF.com and the SEIKO-Citizen Watch Forum sometimes have them in their trading sections (but rarely). You might also want to check out the Bell-Matics Forum (accessible from this site) and see if any of the 150+ members there can help you out.

Also, I live near Austin, Tx and there is one watch repair shop (Austin Watch and Clock) that says they can professionally repair my watch. How do I ensure the repair will be correct? Also, the watch repair guy tells me that my bellmatic needs to be cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. He will do the service for $250.00, which seems high to me. Is this a reasonable fee?

the caseback number identifies the case style. Sounds like you have what is sometimes called the "cushion case" Bell-Matic. Visit the Bell-Matics Forum and Blog and you should discover more information about your watch.

I'm not sure if the model number is on the front or back so the one on the front is 4006-6020T and on the back is 4006-6039. Just wondering what anyone could tell me about it. Any response would of course be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Actually, the $300 offer is a high bid. Especially since the bracelet is broken. For example, a highly sought after 27J Bell-Matic with the very rare seven character serial number recently brought in $310 on ebay. And it is very rare.
Unfortunately, you will have trouble finding a replacement bracelet or parts for your old bracelet. How is it broken?

i broke the metal wrist band several years ago and was trying to find an orginal replacement. so i just put the watch up.
i mentioned it to a friend at work and he offered to buy it as is for $300.00. i figured it was worth more if he made that offer.
it's a blue faced - day/date - with the hash marks, no numerals on the face or for second hands.
the case housing is fairly thick & heavy and octagon shape, like a stop sign.
it has 2 serial numbers on the back - 1 under the name SEIKO # 422783 JAPAN A - the other is afterthe wording of stainless steel #4006-6059
can you give me any information on this timepiece
thank you - bill

The problem with the dial turning is still an issue but I am not sure how this one broke.

Comments:Nice site.

I have a 4006-6027 250677 that my wife bought me in either '68 or '69 when I was in the military. The last time I wore it was in late 1970 when it (and I) took a pretty severe hit. I recently found it with some other items when cleaning the basement. It still runs fine but when I try to change the date, the dial face rotates (probably from the impact). Is there some place I can find how to stop the dial face from turning? I was surprised to see that the crystal is marked up but not broken.

I need to find a new watch band for it (metal). I had taken it to one place to get an estimate on how much it would cost to repair and they said it would be over $300. He said I should try and sell it as is on EBAY. I went to another place and had it fixed(new stem, crystal, etc) for $200. I will never get rid of it because it was my grandfathers.

Comments:Hi John,
Again as you may have heard before you have a very nice collection. I have been searching the web for a particular type of Seiko watch. Long story short! My Dad was in the Australian army, and whilst on a tour of duty in Vietnam in the late 60's he purchased or was issued with a Seiko watch. I was born in 1970 and as a child my Dad would let me play with this watch, which I remember had a Aqua blue face, crome square crown and a loud buzzing alarm. I recently asked Dad about this watch as I was telling my son about it. Dad informed me that I had lost his watch when I was a young boy playing with it. So my mission is to find Dad's watch and get it back to him. I have narrowed it down to a Seiko that looks very much like a EL-370 and a 4006-6031. So I'm wondering if you or one of your many associates can lend me a hand with this project.
Regards
Mick Daley

After browsing for a friendly reference, this is a url I will bump-in. I wish to explore further, to know the technicality of this watch. I am a Seiko collector from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I have circles of friend who are part time vintage traders. Lately the price goes down as there are many vintage 70s Seiko in town. A price between USD100 to USD200 per piece with leather strap or Seiko bracelet. Depends on the condition. I guess I will visit this site quite often after this. It's very similar to yours with the french day-wheel, except it has a blue face and in not as good condition. Unfortunately, the band is too small to fit me, so I'm giving it to my son. I need to be able to set it though, and I can't figure it out. Can you point me toward some instructions? Also, I have a Seiko 5 I can't set. All the instructions I find refer to pulling the stem out to the second stop. My only pulls out to one stop. Perhaps it is broken in some way that prevents it from reaching the second stop. It keeps time well, and I wear it anyway, but it would be nice to set the day/date if possible. Thanks in advance for you help.

Comments:I found your website after I bought my Bell-matic at an ebay-auction. I love automatic watches with the alarm-complication. I already own a Fortis Pilot Professional with alarm and I now added a Bell-matic to this 'collection'. I already have a Seiko Bullhead Chronograph so I'm already convinced of the quality of the Japanese automatic movements.

The Bell-matic I've bought is in almost new ('near mint') condition and I only paid $ 50.00 for it (including shipping to the Netherlands from the USA), so you can imagine how happy I am!

Greetings from the Netherlands,

What a great site you have created! I've just stumbled into it, but I'll certainly be back.
I am the proud owner of a 4006-6070 in polished stainless with a white face. serial # 7624xx. My watch is nearly identical to the one you have illustrated #780487 except, like so many, I am using a replacement leather strap. Do you have any suggestions about tracking down a replacement steel bracelet? I'd love to find one. Also, can you estimate the manufacture date from the serial number?
Thanks and Regards, Brent

I have just bought my first Bell-matic. Face says 17Jewel, Japan 4006-6080T, back says Seiko, water resistant, 590591, Japan A, Stainless steel, 4006-6060. The lugs are concealed and it has a steel blue face. Can you tell me anything about it? Also, when the alarm goes off, if you press in the top button to stop it, it doesn't until some of the tension has gone out of the alarm spring. Is this common and easy to fix for an enthusiastic amateur?
All the very best, Dean.

Comments:Today I found my grandfather's watch. He passed away 29 years ago and the watch came to my mother who put it away and never really used it. When I found it, it was not working (as in its hands weren't moving). I set the date and time, and tried to wind it, thinking it was a sprung wound watch. However it wound not wind and after a few moments of handling it began to tick. I have several questions for you:
1. What powers this model?
2. What is it's age?
3. What is it's approx value?
4. If It needs a new battery, where can I get it done, and will anyone do it seeing its an antique?
I have reasons to believe that it is an automatic because it has this "tingling" when it is shaken.

It is a SEIKO BELL-MATIC with 17 Jewels and a dark blue face on the front.
On the back is says:'STAINLESS STEEL 4006-7020 WATER PROOF 840576

My hope is that you can give me some answers. If possible can you include some kind of instruction manual or you can tell me how to use it because it has two buttons and a ring around the face that can be moved by one of the buttons. The ring has a red arrow on it. It also shows the day and what day of the month it is.
If you want, I can take pictures and send them to you.
Please answer what you can as it will be greatly appreciated as I never met my grandfather and the watch means a lot to me.

I've used and loved my Bellmatic 4006-6040 for about thirty years. Now my son has expressed an interest in it. Unfortunately, because I removed links from the wristband years ago, it is now too small for him. Any suggestions on where I might obtain this band? Great website, by the way.

Comments:John,
Came upon your website in my search for information about Bellmatics. I have been "lurking" some forums pertaining to Seiko watches, in particular automatics and divers, and I have recently set my sites on vintage ones as well. I recently stumbled upon a Bellmatic (4006-6037) at an antique store in West Virginia, and gave a measly $35 for it. Needless to say, I was not only happy about the price, but also taken instantly by the Bellmatic. Now, I am hooked, much to the chagrin of my fiance! I have only a small problem with the alarm on it. It is in pretty good shape (I have not checked out the movement as I lack proper tools), with some scratches on the crystal. I have only a small problem with the alarm on it - it will not engage when set and wound. Any suggestions for repair? I would really like to get some wrist time out of this great watch. Site is fantastic by the way and a great resource! Thanks!

Comments:Paul,

Thanks for your guestbook entry. I tried to email you directly but it bounced back from your spam-filter.

It is possible that your watch just needs a servicing of the movement and regulation. If you do not have a reliable SEIKO watch-seller/repairer in your area, then you might want to try contacting COSERV, SEIKO's New Jersey-based service center. I have included their contact information at the end of this message.

Although I have not used them, other Bell-Matic owners say that COSERV can service and regulate a Bell-Matic, but if it needs parts, they probably won't have them and won't help you find them. For repairs and rehab work, you might try an individual watch restorer, such as Randall Benson @ 2manywatches@verizon.net, Ken Setser @ kset51@yahoo.com, and Jack Axelroyd at www.INDUSTRIALWATCHWORKS.com.

Best of luck!

Comments:Fantastic site!! I have a 4006-6010 which has remained in a bottom draw for years. I now know from the serial no. that it was made in Feb 1971. I would like to have this fully serviced and have been advised (by Seiko) to contact Premier Watches. They advised me by telephone, that the crown will need replacing due to the seals, (similar to the later 6011?). Will this compromise the originality and value in any way? I am also keen to learn more about the watch in general?
Thanks

I am Italian and my grand father died a few months ago. Amongst his things I found a bellmatic with this reference: 4006-7012 561900.
I would really like to use it as it is not only very nice but also an important souvenir.

However the ring around the glass is missing.
I have asked a few shops but nobody is able to help...can you? maybe an address or a name?

Thank you very much.
