I would LOVE to hear from anyone knowing anything about this family! Here is what we have found so far:

Mr & Mrs McDonough appear to have lived in Moville, County Donegal, Ireland.
Their children (we do not know their birth order except where noted):
Dermott Joseph McDonough, b 4 Oct 1886; he lists his birthplace as Moville, County Donegal, Ireland on his United Stated World War I draft registration card.
Gerald McDonough, remained in Ireland
Mrs. J. Gorden, remained in Ireland
Mrs J. O'Hare, remained in Ireland
Mrs Joseph Gregg; lived in Chicago, Illinois, USA
Reginald Joseph McDonough, b 11 July 1888; showed his birthplace as Moville, Ireland on his WWI draft registration card
Vincent McDonough, remained in Ireland

Patrick Joseph McDonough, born in Butte, Montana, USA in 1909
Patrick's son is
Thomas Michael McDonough, b Butte, Montana, USA in 1932

Thank you for any help!

His son and my Grandather Captain William Francis Coppin married Mary Agnes Montague circa 1859 and had five children: Mervyn, Alf, Edgar, Dolly an Alice. Apparently in the early 1800's they emigrated to Wales from whence my Grandfather, Mervyn Coppin and his brother Alf, emigrated to South Africa. I am anxious to make contact with any relatives descending from the above forbears as I will be in the UK in April/May 2008 and would visit Northern Ireland to visit them.

He was born about 1850. He came to Boston and married Mary McGonagle/McGonigle. She was born about 1850 as well.
Her parents were Patrick & Eunice McGonagle/Mcgonigle. Mary married John in Boston in 1875 and had 3-4 kids. Catharine,Patrick Eunice and maybe Mary Ellen. Mary Ellen may be the daughter of John Gill's second marriage. Eunice went back to Gatford and returned to Boston in 1896 when she was 17. Mary died of tb in 1883.

Any info would be greatful. I heard from someone stating that an Andy & Eileen Gill may be related. Would love to connect and find out.

Comments:Seeking information on the McLaughlin family from the townland of Carrowhugh, Moville circa 1901.
Fathers name : Alexander.
Mothers name : Sarah.
Childrens Names: Mary.
: Hessie.
: Nellie.
: Maggie.
: Cassie.
: Archey or Archie.

Mary was my grandmother who eventually settled in Clydebank just outside of Glasgow. She married Andrew Gallagher, who was also from Ireland, possibly Derry or Belfast.
Any information on the McLaughlin family before or after 1901 would be greatly appreciated,as would any info on Andrew Gallagher.
With regard to Mary McLaughlin's family,I noticed from the excellent 'Palmer's Family Site' that although Alexander's family details were on the 1901 census they were not on the 1911 census.
Did the whole family move away from the district ?
If so,where?
I also note that Alexander's given proffesion was a gardener,and Sarah's was a housekeeper.
This suggests to me that, given that most people worked the land around this time, did they work on an estate or large house around the area?

Any information would be gratefully received.

Regards,
Tam Gallagher.

I have been listening to Dan McFeely sing your praises for several months now and thought it was about time I checked out your website. Fantastic. Another Lindel. Where do you get the time to transcribe all those records? It is a great resource and I am surprised I have not come across it before. I do tend to do quite a lot of genealogy for foreign folks who appear on the Donegaleire List (like Dan) but obviously I have not done anything for anyone from Moville yet or I would have found your site - at least I hope I would because it is packed full of data. You should subscribe to Donegaleire and meet the rest of us Donegal obsessed gen folk. Btw, I work in Derry and know the places your father and mother lived.

Comments:I've just found your site and it is very well done. It even has some McGinnis (etc.) entries. I wonder if you or a reader may be able to help me in my search for my 4xgr-grandfather.
Hugh MAGINNIS my 3xgr-grandfather arrived in Nova Scotia about 1817. He married Rebecca Vance in Colchester Cty, NS in 1818. We believe that he came from the Donegal area, but the only reference to his origins is "Dinsgall". This was on a land grant application and as far as we can tell there is no such locale.
Hugh was born in ca 1797 to John & Sarah (from a later second marriage register). We assume that he was protestant, because he became a Baptist Deacon when they moved to Upper Canada (Ontario) in 1834. This does not rule out that he might have converted from R.C., of course.
On all the documents he signed in Canada, he used the spelling Maginnis. The spelling of my last name, McGinnis, was changed by accident when my grandfather married. All the other branches of the family tree still use Maginnis.
I have been frustrated in my quest to find his parents and any of his siblings. Professional researchers have also been unsuccessful, but one thinks that they may have been in the Inishowen/Moville area.
There are a few John McGinnis & other surname variations, in the Moville area in the 1790 period, but I cannot connect them with a spouse named Sarah.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
I live in Ontario, Canada and would like to have some better leads before travelling to Ireland to dig further.
Thank you for providing this great website.
Best regards,
Tim McGinnis

Unfortunately I am not sure where although my Mum says the family was involved in wine and goods and she seems to think they were in Dublin at some point in time. He comes from a very large family but only himself and his sister Frances (who lives in Kent) are alive. He's not the best of historians and all he can recall about his parents are that his father was Denis, spent some time in the British army, did the odd bit of smuggling in his time and died when he was a teenager. His mother was Sarah McLaughlin, her brothers were Ned, Hughie and Phillip and they were known as the Toys of the Cross. Believe they hailed from the Quigley's Point area. Very new to all this, so if this rings any bells with anyone would love to hear from you. Any other advice about researching family trees would be greatly appreciated.

Comments:I must first off compliment Mr. Palmer on all his hard work on this website.

I'm researching the family of Caldwell Campbell & Jane Douglas(s), who were from Moville Lower.

Caldwell Campbell, son of John, was born about 1826 in Donegal. He was a farmer in Balleeghan. I believe he died sometime between 1901 & 1909. He was a widow on the 1901 census living with his namesake son. That son went to America in January 1909, so I'm assuming his father was deceased by then.

Caldwell, the elder, married Jane Douglas(s) on 26 Nov. 1859. She was from Carrowhugh, the daughter of James, & born about 1837 in Donegal.

I know of four children, all of whom ended up in the U.S. in Boston, Massachusetts, where they also married: Andrew, my Annie, Jane ("Jennie") & Caldwell ("John").

I do have quite a bit of information about the above children after they came to Boston. I know little about the family in Moville. I would assume that there would’ve been other children who settled in Moville.

Comments:Great Site Mr. Palmer! Really interesting as my father's early years were spent with his grandparents in Stroove and Moville - he then joined his family who were living in Derry. His name 'Strunks' was of German origin, I think, but I am not having much luck in tracing any ancestors. His father's name was Neil Vincent Strunks (a sailor) his mother's name was Frances Boyle. His paternal grandmother was either a Gillespie or of Gillespie stock! I have noted the 'Trunks' entries on your site and think they may be related in some way - also the 1861 marriage of Joseph Stronks to Unity McLaughlin is very interesting. If you have, or anyone else has, any other (however tenuous) information about my maiden name, I would be really grateful.
Thanks for the site - it's really good.
