I'm Gonna Run Away From You by Tammi Lynn was a favourite of mine. When I found out who wrote it I searched for more info on Bert Berns and was surprised to see he had written so many classics. This guy should be world famous.

First time I've visited the site, and I'm staggered by the amount of music he was involved with that I loved in the '60s in Melbourne, Australia. YBCH is still a classic.

I was 19 in 1967. I was a guitarist from Tulsa playing with The Unusuals at The Wagon Wheel on 45th off Times Square. I hear a band doing "Are You Lonely For Me Baby?" and the song knocked everyone out. It never got airplay in Tulsa. When I started doing it back home and people loved it, I knew it was a winner. I've done it for 40 years and it always works. I recorded it in 1980 with Flying Horse. Gus Hardin and Betsy Smittle (Garth Brooks' sister) sang back-up on it.It was years before I found out anything about Berns and how much great work he'd done. I only discovered him right before he died. What a talent. I wish I could write like him, and I wish he'd lived 100 years. Thanks for the great informative site; I'll be sending a lot of visitors your way.

What a wonderful surprise to discover one of the one true 'baseline' composers that realized the link between the late 50's Sinatra 'pop' hysteria and the early Jerry Lee Lewis/Elvis 'rock' freedom. Twist and Shout has always been - and will always be - one of the absolute turning points of rock 'n roll. Isley Brothers, Beatles, Ferris Buller - hey, what's left?

I'm a big Neil Diamond fan, and I now have a greater appreciation for Bert and his influence on music during the 60s. It's good to know even though he is gone, his legacy lives on.

Hey, to all the great Berns family. Very enjoyable being together. I valued my times with my good friend Bert Berns. We made a lot of music together, and then I was on the West Coast & Bert was on the East Coast. We were
both working for the same company and my desire to work for challenged children actually took me in other directions. When I heard that Bert has passed away, I wondered about his family. These days I enjoy hooking up with Bert's kids (grown up)in very meaningful ways. Like a solid family. Sharing and leaning on one another with friendship & love. Each call is a fun experience as well as lots of creative perspectives & opportunities. Bert Berns was years ahead of about 99% of those banging around in the music business. I treasured our many activities, songwriting, singing & producing together. He helped me through college and it is the best to know his family and be close. That is the real treasure in life. Bert's legacy is a powerhouse because of his family picking up the torch and carrying it with loving pride. This is all an inspirational story. Please give Bert Bern's huge & historical collection of hits a listen. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will soon tune in on all of this as America becomes more knowledgble. positive. I live in the UK & the first record I bought by Bert was The Jarmells. Later I noticed that the name 'Russell' kept turning up on many of the records I was buying in the early 60s. If that name was on a record I would buy it 'blind', I still would! Bert's records are still being played in the UK at just about every Northern Soul night. His spirit lives on.

I was with Bert Berns from the beginning of BANG Records.
Bert was interviewing hundreds of women to be his assistant in this new venture. When he called me in to speak with me, it was an instant connection and I was hired. Bert sent me to Atlantic Records to meet with several different people to teach me publishing and promotion. I took to it like a fish in water ~ I truly felt like I had come home. Bert was a musical genius, kind, sense of humor and self. I would watch him, his feet were on his desk, playing his guitar and writing songs Little Piece of my Heart. His talents was overwhelming and endless. I consider myself lucky to have had that time with Bert and know the man behind the music.

I'd vaguely heard reference to Bert, but after picking up the recent "heart & soul" collection on Universal Music put together by Doug Morris...I'm astounded. My only complaint with the recent CD compilation is: why did they stop at just 10 tracks?
Turns out, like millions of others, I've been a Bert fan my whole life, and never knew it. I'll certainly have to go digging through the crates to find more of his great tunes...Sorry he left this earth before I was born.

One of my "claims to fame" was when I worked in the music business for the writer of "Hang On Sloopy" and all the other wonderful songs that Bert wrote. I was the secretary for Bobby Mellin Music at the time that Bert was there. I worked after that for Rayven Music which was owned by Duke Niles. I have also been trying to get back in touch with Judy Mellin, with whom I lost contact, many years ago. It was a terrible shock to learn of his death, especially so soon after he married. I knew you "Brett" when you were still unborn, and haven't heard anything of your Mom since than. Seeing this site brings back wonderful memories

I've always loved the songs of Bert Berns and the artists he produced. Is there any chance you might release (or re-release) any records by Berns himself? I see in your discography he put out singles under his own name and his commonly recognized pseudonyms. These are long out of print as far as I know and uncollected in a solitary volume. What about demos?

This is some of the music my mother played around the house growing up. I always new it was black men and women who sang most of these songs(musically my mother preferred the soulful stylings of black people) I never really suspected such great BLACK music was written and conceived by a white man, wait till I tell mama. Nevertheless it's great music and let me tell you when I tell my mother I know exactly what she will say "dem deh song deh! Mi nuh nwoh wha kina duppy did on dat man deh"

I have always enjoyed the great music created by Bert, not
only as a composer, but as a producer as well. In learning about his background and career, it is amazing when you find out about the enormous number of hits and well known songs that he was involved with one way or another. Some of my favorite songs of Bert's, aside from the well-known legendary hits, include "Friends And Lovers Forever" recorded by Nancy Ames and "I'm Gonna Run Away From You" by Tami Lynn. I'm happy to see Bert finally get the recognition he deserved and am glad that his son and daughter, Brett and Cassie, keeping his music alive. My only regret is that I never had the opportunity to meet Bert when he was still creating these musical masterpieces. His music and memory will definitely live on.
