I have been looking into the Wheeler's of Buford GA (where I was born). My family is very hush hush on their background so much of what I have is memories and hear say. I did find (from a Brown family board - while researching my step-father) that James A. Wheeler was born Buford Ga on 2-6-1842. He married Roxie A.(Rutisel)Wheeler. Roxie is suppose to be of German descent. They are buried beside three of their children in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery near May, Texas. They had five children, Ella, James Tll, William G. Lucy Hood and Margaret Davidson. Buford was settled in the early 1800's so I did a little digging. In a book about the early settlers of Buford, according to the census records, the Wheeler's were one of the 1st families to settle the area. They lived near the Chattahoochee River area of Buford. I dug a little deeper and found that James's parents were James Wheeler born July 2, 1803 in South Carolina and Jennnie Sudderth Wheeler born May 14, 1813 in North Carolina. He had 6 brothers and 4 sisters. His brothers were George, Newton, Marion, Mack, Asa, Daniel. His sisters were Margaret, Sallie, Elsie, and Octavia. I even found the Wheeler Cemetery in Buford but most of the headstones are broken or so old that you can't read them. There is a Mary Wheeler who died May 25, 1877. Other sir-names located here were Sudderth, Edwards, and Holcomb... (that I could read). One was Katherine Edwards born Feb 3, 1880 died sometime in the 1900's (I could not find all the pieces to the grave marker) was cool because I named my daughter Katherine and she was born in the month of Feb. Also, my husband (adopted as a Watkins) born an Edwards. I have heard rumors that our family originated in England near Kent but have not tracked that down. I have also heard that we are of German and Spanish decent on my fathers side (the Wheeler side).... maybe this comes from Roxie but I do not know. All I do know is that my father was Alonzo and his father owned a garage. I think his name was DeWhit. Alonzo's mother was Dessie May (maybe Cook). He has or had (not sure who is still living) a brother named Butch, one named Bobby, a sister named Caroline, and one named Margie. I am pretty sure he had/has other brothers but I do not know for sure. I was young when I would go to Granny Dessie's house so it is kind of cloudy now. Alonzo had my brother Rodney and Me (Rhonda) with our mom. He re-married and adopted Claire's son Randy (Randall) and fathered two girls Mandy (Amanda or Anglia) and Chrystal Gale. Randy, Mandy, Chrystal, Rodney, and I all have kids of our own. Maybe someone out there has more insight on my Wheeler line and would share. Thanks. |

My mom was born in Tarrent Co. Texas and was put up for adoption when she was 6 to 9. Her brother was also adopted with her (not sure how old he was). At the time of her adoption her name was Virginia Mae Wheeler and I think his was Richard James Wheeler. They has two older sister that were around 10 to 12 years older, mom can not remember much else about them. She believes her dad traveled for some reason. My mom knows very little about her mother. | Comments: | Hello! Searching for the right Benjamin Wheeler who married the two Fickey/Ficke sisters. They lived for a time in Smithfield Fayette County Pa. Joseph and his wife, Maria Alice "Molly" (Holmes/Hooms) lived in Smithfield raising their family. Joseph had siblings and he was born in Kingston Ulster County New York. His parents were Joseph and Petronella "Eleanora" (Shoonmaker). Joseph came to America from Wales Petronella was Dutch but her maternal great grandparents were of Sweden and Denmark. In 1803 Benjamin Wheeler bought land from Barnabus Smith for $20.00. There was a Barnabus Smith living in Preston County West Virginia (same one???) Benjamin's son Smith Wheeler who married Hannah (McCollum) had a very nice homestead on a large amount of land in Preston County and that is where they are buried. |

They didn't go together, because Charles Henry Viner married another woman in Evansville, IN and had further children. My Dad lived with my Great-Grandfather Edward Viner in Emporium, Pa., but was finally put up for adoption at 3 YOA and was adopted by the Spencer's of Erie, Pa. I'm hoping that there may be someone that can possibly shed some light on Ella Mae Wheeler's disappearance. I saw a site where an Ella Mae Wheeler Flory had a son named Donald, and he lived in Indianapolis, IN. The coincidence is interesting, but I don't know. | Comments: | Searching for the parents of George Washington Wheeler, B Mar 28 1821 in either North Carolina or Tennessee. At some point he must have moved to Alabama where children Wm W Wheeler b 1855 and David F Wheeler b 1857. I do not have the name of the mother of these two. The source of these names was the 1870 census of Pope Co, Illinois (misspelling of last name to Whaler since neither George nor Sarah could spell). Some time between 1857 and 1859, George moved to Tennessee where he married Sarah Jane ? (b Feb 12, 1841) on Oct 13, 1959. Had two children while still in Tennessee, Minerva Ann (b 1862) and Elisha Ben (b 1860), then moved to Pope Co, Illinois. More children including my GG Grandfather, Robert Clary Wheeler (b Apr 4, 1872 Pope Co, Illinois, d Jan 29, 1938 Kokomo, Howard Co, Indiana) was born. He died Feb 16, 1874 in Pope Co, Ill from smallpox contracted from one of his children. Sarah went and remarried a Samuel P Butler Oct 28, 1877, hitting the 1880 census with the last name Butler listed as head of household but no Samuel.
My questions and roadblocks would be this. 1) George's Parents name and location of birth. 2) George's first wife's name and marriage info. 3) Sarah Jane's maiden name. |

There is a Wheeler block plot (second block) in the Talequah Cemetary. All but about three of his youngest children are dead now. Most of them buried there. His children's births span from about 1902 to 1957. I know that my line spans back to a Willard Wheeler back in 1636 who was kidnapped I believe from England and forced to serve as a cabin boy on a ship to America. I know that my ancestary decends from Germany the Black Forest area and that no one will really speak of other than that they keep their cuckoo clocks a secret!? The Wheeler name is Blackdutch.I believe there is a lot of mystery and spiritual background here. Everybody likes to keep quiet about stuff. I ran into some people from Germany and asked bluntlly about the Black Forest area and they all look at me crazy and won't tell me a thing! I guess it will come to me in time. Patience.......... |

Willingham April 9, 1872 in Cleburne County. I have found the graves on Georgia A. and Thomas J. Willingham at the Bethel Baptist Cemetery near Moody, (not far from Birmingham) Alabama. They had Herbert, William, Adele b. 1868 in New York (who is my g-grandmother),Emogene and Harry. Adele married Auguste Besson in 1892 and gave birth to my grandmother Muriel Margaret Besson 1896. Herbert Spencer Wheeler married Edith Shaw (decendent of Roger Sherman via Lucinda Sherman Allen) in Japan in 1901.
