Stacey Klinckwort Wednesday, July 1st 2009 - 12:50:18 PM sklinckwort@comcast.net We recently stayed at Hacienda San Lucas. It is such a beautiful and relaxing place. We enjoyed just sitting outside in the evenings with a glass of wine, watching the stars and fireflies, listening to the sounds of nature, and engaging in interesting conversation. It is a true escape from the fast-paced lifestyle we live. One highlight of the trip was the delicious food that is prepared there. Everything is super fresh, made from scratch, and with the utmost care, not to mention beautiful presentation. Take a few days to escape to this magical place, it will be an experience that you will not forget.

Heather Clapp Friday, March 6th 2009 - 01:56:51 AM heathduff@gmail.com Dear Flavia, Two months from now my husband and I will celebrate our first anniversary, and it has me feeling sentimental about the great peace we felt while visiting Hacienda San Lucas for three short days on our honeymoon last June. I knew it was special while we were there but I'm amazed by how my thoughts keep drifting back. Something about the walls, the floor, the post and beam porches is so unlike anything here in Sacramento that it's actually sent me on a quest to figure out what exactly was so entrancing in it's simplicity. Here, the dwellings are made out of latex paint, particle board, manufactured tile, linoleum and an obsession with perfect right angles. Everything is so perfectly square, sterile, and out of context and it irritates me in a way it never used to before being a guest in a building built and finished by hand. It is our own goal now, to build our house by hand. I'm learning forgotten old world techniques for building, masonry and plastering and I'm baffled that it never used to occur to me that the materials needed to build a HOME and not just a "house" are underfoot and close by. When we reach our goal and settle into our small hand built cottage, I'll credit you as the catylist and inspiration. You inspired our search for the true meaning of HOME. OK three cocktails down and I'm all mushy, but really, thanks for the stay and we hope to return. Sincerely, Heather and Corey Clapp

Heri Tryba Sunday, February 22nd 2009 - 07:02:02 PM wellandbeyond@monad.net Besides all the beauty, friendliness, superb food, and the enchanting spirit of Hacienda San Lucas: it was also remarkable to come across a spot in Latin America that is run only by women. I hope that San Lucas can serve as a model and inspiriation for the development of tourism in Honduras. What makes you want to stay for a long time at San Lucas is the tasteful, intimate setting, and the heartfelt attention and presence of the staff who seems happy to be able to work there. The lack of air conditioning, TV or luxury amenities makes the hacienda not less, but more appealing. The unique quality of the place and the warm care of its people will stay in my memory for a long time. I feel deeply grateful and priviledged for my wonderful, regenerative experience there.

Talayeh Rezayat Monday, July 7th 2008 - 09:53:27 PM talayehr@gmail.com No words will do justice to describe my experience at the hacienda. I would say it was my impression of how heaven would be like. The meals are impossible to beat and the hospitality is second to none! Flavia is the sweetest person I have ever met. She really took care of us. If I ever go back to Copan, and i plan on doing so, I will only stay with Flavia at the Hacienda. Thank you Flavia for such a wonderful time. You are the best!

Joe Fowler Saturday, June 28th 2008 - 07:23:13 PM ardmoor8@comcast.net My wife and I have been traveling throughout Mexico and Central America for more than 25 years and have never stayed at any hotel, bed and breakfast or eco-lodge that compares to Hacienda San Lucas. Everything about San Lucas - Flavia and the staff, the accommodations, food and services, transportation arrangements to the Copan site, coffee fincas, Macaw Mountain, Quirigua, etc. - was outstanding. It was really an "magical" week for us - one we'll never forget. Flavia, Argi, Wendy and the rest of the wonderful staff treated us like family, and did so many "little extras" for us that we felt as though we were the center of attention during the entire week!!! We're already planning our next trip to San Lucas.

Bonnie Friday, June 27th 2008 - 02:56:27 PM bonniemcland@hotmail.com I am a little over 2 years late in this posting , but can say that I have thought often and happily of the week spent at La Hacienda, traveling with two other adults and about 18 students. Dona Flavia was an angel, the staff helpful and kind, the meals and the rooms incredible beyond our wildest dreams - especially in the candle light, and our little explorations of Copan & the Ruinas, La Pintada, and the surrounding area was life changing in many subtle but abiding ways. It would be a dream to return.

murray brown and family Monday, March 3rd 2008 - 06:33:10 PM casadeluna@xtra.co.nz Kia Ora ! How lucky we are to have visited this timeless place. My wife Karen and my two children Ukiah15 years and Modeena 12 years travelled overland from the wonderful Antigua in Guatemala to San Lucas in July 2007, having visited Tikal days before . The vision Flavia had for sharing the beauty and special nature of San Lucas with free thinking folk from around the planet , is borne out by the feeling it instills and that remains with you long after you have re entered your regular world . San Lucas merges with it's natural environment and evokes the Eco ethos without commercial baggage ,the staff are real ,and at one with the other indigenous peoples who live in the surrounding area and delight in the presence of visitors from far away . Lush verdent vistas ,indigenous food , superb natural history, activities at your own leisure , this should not be a once in a lifetime destination . Thank You Flavia and everyone @ Hacienda San Lucas . Murray

Cynthia Seybolt Friday, February 22nd 2008 - 12:38:55 PM cynthiavt@gmail.com Dear Flavia, Thanks you so much for providing Peter and me with a really magical three nights! We loved the Hacienda, from our candlelit room to the superb food, beautiful flowers, lovingly and tastefully restored building and grounds. It was a great pleasure to meet you and to hear the history of the Hacienda. We keep thinking of the wonderful opportunities you have provided for many of the local people, and how much they have learned from you. What a gift you have given! We loved watching your staff grinding corn, making tamales, etc., and were very impressed with the excellent service they provided (and especially with all Argi's warmth and care). We hope to have an opportunity to visit again. Best wishes, Cynthia Seybolt Underhill Center, Vermont, USA

Egil Pettersen Friday, January 25th 2008 - 09:35:01 AM egil@kaffe.no Greetings from Norway After a long car drive from Atitlan in Guatemala we arrived Hacienda San Lucas November 21st 2007 in the evening – and what a reception – warm welcome greetings and embraces from Falvia and some of her employees. This took place on the parking place with candles and a big full moon on a clear sky. What a fantastic place we had com to, candles and lanterns threw light around and gave a fairy-tale atmosphere we shall never forget. San Lucas encircled by dense vegetation lies on a hill over the centre of Coban and with a fantastic view – it is like a paradise! Cosy rooms – hearty and nice people – nice food and drink, but a much too short stay. This place we just have to return to. Thanks from: Eva, Nils, Bjorg, Gustav, Jan, Toril, Jan, Inger Marie and Egil

Susan Jensen Wednesday, January 23rd 2008 - 10:43:26 AM yogaonroatan@yahoo.com http://www.yogaonroatan.com I recently visited Hacienda San Lucas with a group of girlfriends for a restorative weekend. This was an experience that will forever remain in our hearts. The energy and warmth we received was like a gift from God and it has changed all of us in many ways. We were especially blessed to have shared this experience with Aum Rak and Leah. The sacred fire ceremony, guided meditations and readings we enjoyed were spiritually enlightening and very special. Our yoga classes at Gaia, overlooking the beautiful Copan valley, can not be compared to anything in this world!! Thank you to you all, you are all so special and I look forward to returning 'home' to spend more time with you. Blessings, Susan

Catriona Rust Thursday, December 20th 2007 - 11:24:15 AM catriona_rust@tiscali.co.uk We spent a wonderful evening in June at Hacienda San Lucas. What an amazing place! And Flavia, when you met us off the bus from San Pedro, it was like meeting an old friend. We felt so welcomed and 'at home'. Hacienda San Lucas has been a labour of love and your passion for the place shows through in every detail from the rooms to the presentation of the food. You made a French man very happy with the food, wine and ambience you have created!! We have travelled a lot throughout the world and Hacienda San Lucas has got to be one of the most special places we have had the opportunity to visit. We wish you well in the future with the plans for expansion, and hope to be able to return to Honduras and to San Lucas to spend more time there. We would highly recommend Hacienda San Lucas to fellow travellers who like comfort and luxury, but within a natural setting and which takes you back to the roots and history of the Copan region. Kind Regards and Thanks again. Catriona Rust (UK) and Jean-Marc DeJean (France)

Sadhana Shrestha from Nepal Tuesday, October 2nd 2007 - 01:37:08 AM sadhanaz@yahoo.com The evening at Hacienda San Lucas has been one of the most inspiring, spiritual and energising visits ever.I went to San Lucas with my friend Natasha which made it even more special. The quaint tuk -tuk ride from Copan, the warm welcome by Flavia, the spectacular view from Gaia ,the traditional , rustic but warm Hacienda took my breath away. The 5 course meal we had was so authentic that bthe taste still lingers. But best of course was the affection and warmth of Flavia, a 60 year old woman , with the energy of a 20 year old and a heart of gold. Thanks Flavia and Natasha for this wonderful experience!!

Valerie Ryan MD Monday, October 1st 2007 - 07:54:14 AM valerieannryan@hotmail.com what a wonderful experience at the Hacienda San Lucas. We loved our room, candle lit and hammocks outside the door for relaxation. The breakfast of handmade tortillas, black beans and scrambled eggs with chilies was the best ever and we are still talking about it!!! The magical ruins called Los Sapos were only a short walk from the Hacienda and we were accompanied by Poli, the owner's yellow lab who kept us company. We walked a little further and came upon the Mayan village of La Pintada. What an experience....the little children all came out to see us and try and sell their cornhusk dolls. It was touching. Overall a great place! Can't wait to go back!

Michael & Frances Donnelly Monday, September 10th 2007 - 03:01:47 PM caolte@hotmail.com This morning I asked my wife what her favorite thing was about our recent visit to the Hacienda San Lucas. She thought about it for quite a while before admitting she couldn't decide. Being of like mind, I decided to make a list of some (not all, the list would be too long) of the things that make this place so remarkable, in order to clarify our thinking. Was it... Our room, large, flagstone floored, cedar beamed, lavishly illuminated with candles. The view from our veranda across the Copan Valley, distant mountaintops dissolving in misty cloud banks only to be fitfully illuminated by flashes of lightning. The accomodating and professional staff, unobtrusive yet always there when needed. I won't soon forget stepping out of a tuk-tuk after returning to the hacienda in a late night thunderstorm and having a staff member appear instantly out of the pouring rain with an umbrella. How did he even know we were there? Being greeted upon arrival by Dona Flavia who invites you to come down to the main house after settling in for a drink and to meet the other guests, followed by dinner. It was as though we were all guests at a country house weekend. The peacefulness and remoteness of the hacienda which, along with all the other features, makes this place a unique experience. Since Frances and I still can't decide what we like best about the Hacienda San Lucas, a return visit will obviously be necesary to resolve the issue.

katie Tuesday, August 7th 2007 - 08:37:10 PM katie.niejadlik@gmail.com my only regret with hacienda san lucas is that i couldn't stay longer. from our pick-up at the bus station, to our ride up the hill in the bed of the pick-up truck, down to our 4:45 am wake up call and our cab waiting for us to take us back down to the bus station (arrangements made courtesy of flavia of course), and every moment in between, hacienda san lucas is close to heaven, in look and feel. the grounds here feel sacred, in part due to Los Sapos, and in part due to Flavia's uncanny ability to make guests feel like they are as connected to the land and the hacienda as she is. Every moment of our stay here was perfect. One of the best meals I've ever had (and undoubtedly the best meal during my trip to Honduras) was made from scratch in the hacienda's kitchen. the corn soup! the rave reviews are to be believed. Aesthetically, this place was a dream. perfectly appointed rooms, excellent hammock-to-guest ratio, sweeping views of the valley around every corner...i cannot say enough about how wonderful our stay was. i cannot wait to return. someday it will happen. thank you flavia and everyone at hacienda san lucas!

Varghese Chacko Tuesday, August 7th 2007 - 04:38:09 PM varghesechacko1@yahoo.com Hello Flavia and staff, Myself, my girlfriend, and some friends had the fortune of staying at your beautiful hacienda July 21-23. It was such a perfect way to enter central america. Just the environment you have created within the beautiful Copan valley is breathtaking. However you have also filled it with an obvious love of life and people from the staff you have to your personal attention to guests. Our last night there we had the pleasure of having an amazing dinner with you as we begged you to stay at our table. To hear your stories and think about how much you accomplished to make the hacienda an extension of your home made the entire experience unforgettable. Afterwards, we went to Roatan and Tela, the enitre time no one could match our experience with you Flavia. Thank you for your hospitality. Varghese 8/7/04

We should have stayed more nights. Just as we were getting "in the grove" it was time to leave. We loved the ruins at Copan (Julio was a fantastic guide), we loved the town of Copanas ruinas, especially riding on the tuk tuk taxis. The Mountain Macaw bird park was a wonderful afternoon for the kids and us. They loved holding the birds and seeing the different parrots in a fantastic unspoilt setting. The zipline was so much fun we did it 2 days in a row. Even the little one did a stage. Again ...thank you so much for sharing your family treasure. everything from the wonderful Honduran meals your gracious staff cooked and served, the candle lit rooms with comfy hammocks overlooking the farmhouse to the specatacular evening sunsets over the Copan river valley made this stay memorable. The staff was joyful and caring. We felt right at home.... and for a time we thought it was HOME! Ricardo Maduro (hijo) Friday, March 9th 2007 - 08:56:57 PM madurorr@muohio.edu Dona Flavia, Don't know if you remember me, but I stopped by with my Russian friends a few years ago when I was living in Tegucigalpa for a few months. We had a blast and the food was excellent. I tell anyone that is headed to Copan Ruinas to visit your place and Twisted Tanya's. I hope you two are doing well and that Tanya's husband is free of the constraints that bound him years ago. Give her my best as well. I am sure I will see you again someday. We are sending a friend your way, Lee Armstrong from Ohio. She speaks fluent Spanish and is married to a Tico. She has been asked to look you up and visit so look for her. Have a good one, and you will hear from me again. Cheers, - Ricardo Maduro

Robert Ryan Tuesday, February 13th 2007 - 08:41:50 PM ryan_sanfran@yahoo.com A magical place. At a time in my life when I needed peace and healing I found it here, during my all to brief stay. It was a small moment in time I will always remember.

Wanda Barlow Tuesday, January 16th 2007 - 07:40:17 PM wanda_may@hotmail.com We visited the hacienda last month. We had a delightful lunch of you tamales. We all voted it our best meal of our trip. Your place is so beautiful and peaceful. Flavia came and talked with us and made us feel so welcome. We plan to return and visit you again when we return to Honduras. Thanks for making our vacation so special. Wanda Barlow, Ross Olson and family

Mary Ann Michels Wednesday, January 3rd 2007 - 11:44:52 AM hypnomam@mindspring.com http://www.MaryAnnMichels.blog.com Hacienda San Lucas...A place of peace. A place to restore and renew oneself. A sacred land that nurtures one’s soul. At Hacienda San Lucas there is something so very special about the air, the views, the flowers, the candlelit rooms, the butterflies, Los Sapos, and the marvelous staff that exists only to help and to serve. One can sit for hours in its incredible energy and simply BE. To meditate, or to experience Yoga, Chi Gong, Tai Chi, or sacred ceremony at Gaia, the “temple” built upon what is likely an earthen mound beneath which lie ancient temples, is a memory one cherishes. I lived for 3 ˝ months in Copan and brought every new friend, every new acquaintance, even total strangers that I encountered up to Hacienda San Lucas to experience it’s peaceful, nurturing, and restorative energy. They all thanked me. My last two weeks in Copan were spent at 2 spiritual workshops held at Hacienda San Lucas’ Gaia. Unforgettable! In gratitude to Flavia, for creating this place, Mary Ann Michels, Auburn, CA, USA

Frank and Sydney Tuesday, January 2nd 2007 - 04:59:55 PM frankasc@cablespeed.com Magnificent panoramic views, quiet peaceful surroundings filled with nature sounds, Yoga sessions …and for the more active - horseback riding, hiking, Rainforest ziplines, tours of the Mayan Ruins and Bird Sanctuary, and the best dining in all of Honduras and quite possibly Central America. These things are just a part of what made our trip to Copan and the Hacienda San Lucas so memorable. But these things can be found in one degree or another in other locations too. The unique ingredient that separates the Hacienda San Lucas experience from all others is the immediate sense of being in the company of long-time dear friends the moment you are greeted by Flavia and meet her staff of Sara and Agri. I warn you, their outgoing easy natures and mellowness are contagious amongst their guests and staff! There is no better way to unwind from the stresses of city life. Break off a little “peace on Earth” for yourself in Copan at the Hacienda San Lucas. Frank Aschert 12/02/2007
