What an amazing and very interesting Site, you really did a great job, it is a priviledge to have been Bishop Mc Bride's grandniece. What I can remember of him is that he was a kind sweet man who had a lot of time for us (the kids) I can remember going into my granny's front room, which the grandchildren were never let in there but as you do, we would sneek in and have a swing on the Bishop's CHAIR. If you were caught by Nora my granny, boy you were in for it, lets say you learned to run fast,,she had a heart of gold as did my grandad Joe Mc Bride. All my love Yvonne Conway/Mc Bride |

| Comments: | I left the following message four or so years ago, and I thought I'd drop a new note with my new email address. Over the past four years God has become more and more the focus of my life. I have a big heart for missionary work and am now the media director and a youth sponsor at my church in Sedona, Arizona. I recently quit my job to start my own, Christian inspired, multi-media business. God is great! May God bless all of you touched by the Bishop's good works.
Here's my old post so you don't have to scroll through four years worth of posts to see it! I am the Grandson of Nora McBride O'Donnell. This web site is excellent and makes me miss my family very much. Being a newly born-again Christian, I can now appreciate more than ever what an amazing great-uncle I had. If anyone in my family sees this and wishes to contact me, please do so. It has been too many years without contact with too many of you. I love you all and miss you dearly. -Tim |

He was a wonderful man, so humble, modest, so down to earth, no kissing of his ring, no ceremonies! there are no other words to describe him, he was wonderful, full of fun and full of the joys and adventures of life!! which he lived to the full. I will always be privilaged to be a niece of his. |

from 1986 until he died. I have several lovely photographs of him and cherish many memories of him as a true friend and a true Franciscan but above all, a humble, caring Priest which was more important to him than being a Bishop. |

I never had the opportunity to meet the Bishop, but I heard stories about him over the years from my grandparents and other relatives and I always remembered the photos of him that graced my grandparents' home in Irvington, NY. When I visited Ireland a few years ago I had the chance to attend a mass at Merchants Quay in Dublin, and made a short trip up to Leitrim to see the land and visit relatives. Thank you for this site and for providing the details on the Bishop's life, and especially thank you for the photos. |

My Uncle Mike Dolan went to school with the bishop.Whenever the Bishop came to the states, he would come to our apartment in Astoria, Queens and visit with us. The Bishop married my older Brother Jack in 1953, while he was here on vaction from Africa. Father Clancy who appears in one of the pictures with the Bishop performed my sisters marriage in 1957. I currently live in Port St Lucie, Florida and would enjoy hearing from other relatives. |

| Comments: | Having just been home to Ireland with my eldest son, Adam, and having accompanied my mother Tessie Hamilton (nee Dolan), a cousin of the Bishop to Mass in Killavoggy Chapel on a couple of Sundays, reading this site brought the Bishop back to life....I can still hear his sermon about the aethiest who never supported but also never complained about his wife going to Mass every day. Each day she would bring a floral arrangement from the garden he tended so carefully. Then he had an accident and fell off a bridge and when his widow was distraught with fear that his soul was condemned to Hell, the priest reminded her of the flowers and the generosity and the support he gave her. "If he had even begun the Act of Contrition as he fell to his death, you husband's sould is in Heaven today", he told her. St John himself couldn't have told a better parable and I enjoyed it every time I heard it, for the Bishop always used it in his sermons on his return trips from Africa.
I am here in Africa myself, and over the past 18 years I have visited churches, parist priests houses and schools where the Bishop's name is remembered and his photograph on display. One such place was in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe, over 200 miles from the neartes tar road. When I told the parist priest of my family association with the Bishop the Nuns killed another chicken and the congregation sang a song in my honour at Mass the following morning! I live in Pretoria, just a few miles from the seminary that the Bishop founded: it is still going strong today, although vocations are difficult here as they are across the world. From 1997 until 2001 I lived in the Eastern Cape Province, which is near Kokstad - a town that is in a hard and unforgiving part of the country. I'm involved in teaching and am currently Headmaster of St Alban's College, the Anglican Diocesan School in Pretoria. Neither my intellect nor my energy will amount to the legacy that the Bishop left behind, but in some small way, i like to think that I am carrying on the mantle of service to the greater good. I really enjoyed the site and would suggest that that family tree that was mentioned by one of the other guests, should be expanded to include the whole family tree of the Bishop's clan. I also know that my mother has a picture taken at Killavoggy school in 1912 with Joe Mac Bride and the Bishop, with many of the Dolans and the Clancys in as well. It would be a great addition to this site. Slán libh go leir! Tom |

| Comments: | I am Gerard Keegan's Granddaughter. I met Bishop McBride, when I was a child, at my Grandfather's house in Scarsdale, NY. I never forgot him in his long robe walking with the grandchildren on the golf course behind my Grandfather's house. He gave me a tigers eye ring from Africa, which I cherish to this day. I know my Grandfather and Grandmother loved him very much and spoke of him often. I enjoyed seeing the picture of my Grandfather and Mother, Kathleen (Keegan) Ford, at the family mass while visiting Ireland. What a treat to see Aunt Nora and Uncle Joe and the cousins I met when they visited America. Thank you for this beautiful website and all the memories it brought back. |

We loved his visits and his wonderful sense of humor. We spent many a night laughing with the Bishop, Nora, my mother and Katie when he visited us on East 40th Street. And preparing the dinner was an awesome feat! After all, the Bishop only liked certain foods!!!! And he was sure to get them from Nora. Thank God it wasn't left up to Aunt Katie!! THE GREAT COOK!
