To Keef -Sure "Collecting spaces" is probably, predictable compared to others. Sometimes we use talk about the limits of a support cd.To prefer the high quality means sometimes to move onto a dvd etc...in this moment of crisis in the music scene were people display universal pleasure for emule..honestly I can not understand why not use the seventy-eight minutes of an entire cd. Steven is not 'a musician who sells few records And everyone should have a chance 'to listen to all tracks. Not everyone has the chance 'of the internet and to look with a lantern one of 2000\3000 copies available at a price not so very accessible.certainly is 24 karat music.but' its only music!! and I do not feel right having buying 4 times the same project with the hope that there's a song that I like.you may agree and you can not be.Sometimes is better a record with ten good songs rather than one with 15 very bad,but if we are talking about a super deluxe edition I do not see the reason to put songs discarded .When Something is considered "special" should have special songs on it. for this I am convinced that the song more 'beautiful' (collecting space" was putting on a version specifically hard to find. MARKETING!! one of many ways of killing off the good music! Much respect to all point of views. I still buy the music.

I am an old fan of Zappa, Jethro Tull, early Genesis and a lot of other beautiful music from the 70's. I am a collector of vinyl, not just collect but listen to also.

Suddenly I discovered your music via a old interview with FISH. I bought FOABP, and bang. I have now bough me up on your music all the way back to early 1990, and it is like being born again. Thank you, and I will spread the word to everyone I know.

Great work mr Wilson, congratulations on your first official solo album!

TO Maunel. Until Steven learns to do a good product of all good songs?? What a patronising twit you are. Collecting Space is OK but it sounds rather predictable compared to the 10 songs he chose for this dark and innovative album. You should have spent your 450 on a single copy of this album instead of stealing it.

about... STEVEN WILSON...."collecting space"...IS AWESOME..and sincerely i don't understand why this beautiful song is not included into the original 2 cd version. Since many years passed when i met u live at Borderlaine (few dozer people there) usual for england..u became a great musician.I didn't liked your relationship with Radio Rock in italy..because they play all the times "radioactivetoy"...its seems is the only song of porcupine tree. puaah !!! buy the way this radio its basically unnecessary in italy. They destroy everything they thouch!I will not buy your solo project so next time u learn to do an entire good product with all god songs on it. I am thankful to the web and bittorrent! though this week i spent 450 because i still buy records!

in the Klaus Schulze interview you said "the 80s was a terrible music decade", man it was the last truly great decade of music with a lot of diversity and each having an individual style , at least great melodies were written then
its the 90s and 2000 xx that are a complete waste musically,
nowadays the complete catalogue of ideas gets used from the 70s-80s , now music stands for no ideas, plagiarism , anonimity , faceless jibberish

Hi Steven,

I'm in agreement with your ideas about society and mass culture, but you're aiming just to the last ring of a long chain.

Download culture, tv slave-drivers and all that is related is purely wanted from business.
Business imposes stereotypes through mass media just to make money flowing, and it doesn't care if this enslaves subconsciously masses of people, creating anti-culture.

This is normality, but it is not normal.

You have the power to say:"Think with your head, be yourself, not a sheep of a meaningless herd that is only consuming you!".

The blind always need someone who let them recover their sight, and you are a strong one. Just think to what you can start in this way.

I tried to be as brief as I could, but there's so much to speak about.

Thanks for this opportunity and thanks for your music.

But as music goes, and it's a very personal thing, I have all your recordings and really love the sonic nature of your music. In other words, it " talks to me " !!
I live in Portland Oregon in the U.S. ( don't hate us ... we have a new president )

Your music has been a staple in my life for the past few months and is the reason I've gotten into learning new ways of creating music.

That said, please schedule some east coast US tour dates when you decide to fly over! I don't care if it's to promote Insurgentes, or with Porcupine Tree, anything!

Also, have you ever considered releasing some tablature booklets for your more recent compilations, like Insurgentes and Fear of a Blank Planet? It'd be great to learn the appropriate way to make some of your sounds.

Always a fan, no matter what! =) Heavy, light, old, new, prog, rock, just please keep making music!

Patrick shares your philosophy about the global value of music, not its bottom line value. A very cool dude. Thanks again, Patrick.

Item 9 exists...as a persom, i feel as though i cannot communicate with people, as well as i can with a guitar in my hands. i understand tunes and sounds rather than how to put a sentance toghther. left handed, i feel as though the guitar is my peace, the road is my pilgrimage and somehow down that road, the gods of rock must be satisfied...like you i am interisted in creating sounds that may, or may not be replicated live, but, are none the less able to be heard by anyone who will listen. i have been a fan for a long time, but now is the time for friends. i hope that this is really Steven listening, and if you want to hear more, E-mail me back. i have songs but need advice.

Steven - I got a chance to listen to Insurgentes. What a beautiful album! I can't wait for the physical release. Will you please consider reissuing the limited book/2CD/DVD set? I would love to get a copy without paying hundreds on eBay. Paying hundreds here I don't mind, but not from the 2nd handers. Thanks. -Avi

Steven Wilson,
I really can't say thank you enough for Insurgentes. I was one of the lucky ones who purchased the limited edition version with the book which is pretty cool (although the dolls are kind of creepy). Every time I listen to this music it is like opening a treasure chest full of sounds. The pleasure experiences just keep getting better and better with each listen (especially track #5...oh baby!) Anyway, just had to let you know this fan is mighty pleased. Take care.

Hi Steven,
I'll never be able to express in words, what I felt when I first heard your music. I guess this is a pretty feeble attempt, so bear with me! Thanks to a friend I discovered a whole new world of sounds that touched every single string of my heart. As soon as I listen to your music, be it on my MP3 player or at home on my cd player, I slip into a realm of wonderfully delicious music and immediately feel like I'm riding on cloud 9. I had the opportunity to see and listen to you live in Berlin recently together with Aviv Geffen. Needless to say, I was mesmerized... All this you've probably heard and read a thousand times, but what I want to say is simply: thank you for making my life so much more special than I ever dreamt possible. All I can say is that your music will accompany me what ever I do and where ever I'll be, forever...
Best wishes,
Mazz

FEARS

The first fear – will be late
Not to give up, burn down and waste our life
Most terrible of monsters in closet
We not afraid? We don’t believe to die?

Cigarettes in a pocket,
Counter on the underground
Receipt from doctor,
Many pills a broken sad
Go with open soul and coat
Red pen marks into your note
Terribly…
Be proceeded, rid and wait
Smiles are drawn by pale lipstick.
Only death don’t need afraid
And like it too is not need…
All that we do
All that we did
Palaces of cardboard bits
Terrifying stories for the night
Look, from me wash off all paints
Look, I absolutely white.
Help me, but I not remains
Very terribly waste life,
Such it will be pleasant whom?
What’s easy? Fear or die?
Only monsters laugh in room

Hi there Steven,

What a GREAT concert you played with Aviv and the other Blackfield guys at the Milky Way in Amsterdam on 21st of January... it was a real special treat to see you in such a small venue!
My only complaint is that the concert was much too short. And yes, I'd like to see people who keep on chattering during the concert to be able to keep their traps shut...

Hi Steven, Im 18 and I really admire you as a composer and as a person. Well, actually, I cant say how are you as a person but I like a lot of your ideas about music. Im not that kind of guy who worships their idols with posters and merchandise things: Id like a talk with him rather than a photo and an autograph. Ive listened and read many interviews of yours and I think youre one of the last music genius in the music world today. I really look forward to see Insurgentes cause I know that in that you destroy ipods as a liberation process from the music industry. You know better than me that today music is just a fuckin business. People listens songs and not albums, thats the matter. I think music should give you something more than a repetitive chorus that you listen over and over everywhere you go and that you are forced to like. Id really like to know what you think about Radiohead and their attempt murder of music business. Could there be a music business not based on money? I mean, can music be free from of all the glittering prizes and endless compromises that shatter the illusion of integrity or is it just a utopia? You know, I really like to do something in my life connected with creativity cause I think thats the only way to avoid the boring life of a worker unsatisfied with what he does. Im at my last year of school and soon Im gonna decide what Ill do. And thats my problem. If Im gonna choose the artistic (writing, music, movies) field, Im gonna live in a world full of compromises, and I think I just wont take it. In a world where rock has been commercialized in the worst ways possible to human mind, such as Guitar Hero, American Idol or rock tv shows, I just cant take that everybody knows Sweet Home Alabama but no one knows Lynyrd Skynyrd or Freebird, for example. Ipods and Itunes and all that shit are the annihilation of music and, above all, all those bands which feed on this (i.e. Metallica the hypocrites) just for money are contributing to demographisize one of the wonders of the world. And for me is very alienating living in a world where almost nobody knows what music is capable of. And this sucks. Bye.

P.S. And just for curiosity, what do you listen to?

Hey Steven, im Andres from Costa Rica, im 16 yrs old and i wanted to thank you for being my greatest inspiration and ask u for help.
You see, Im the lead guitarist for a band over here and we were just starting writing some original stuff but I am the one that does all the job, I write all the songs, I record them and mix them and Im pretty pissed off with the rest of the band cause they dont help at all. I only have my guitar, a drum machine and cheap recording software, thats it. i have written and recorded 4 songs but im not satisfied, i tried to make them complex and to "shred for the sake of shred".
Your music has no shred and doesnt need no show-offs, it is simple and it gets to me more than any shredder can and now I have abandoned shred. Currently I have lost all inspiration and Im looking for it in your music. I wanted to ask you for help on getting me out of this rut, music is my only way of acheiving some kind of success and I am decided to dedicate my life to music, but music hasnt answered me and the muses have only given me strange flashes of inspiration, but it is not enough.
If you could help me somehow, give me tips on how you write your songs or something like that it would be incredible, right now you are my greatest inspiration.
Thanks

Hi Steven,
I enjoyed the Aviv Geffen concert in Hamburg on Sunday what a fantastic evening. I liked the music, although I barely knew the new songs of Aviv Geffen. The Blackfield song "Pain" impressed me live even more than the studio-version, it was just amazing!
We have met after the concert for some minutes beside the tour bus, I was the girl in the red jacket that asked you whether PT will come to Hamburg during their next tour. I completely forgot to ask you where I can find the lyrics of Insurgentes-songs (b.t.w. splendid album) and why they are nowhere printed in the limited edition. And when I saw the pictures of you sitting at the piano in the church (Insurgentes) I wonder if you will ever perform a whole concert in a church. Would probably be a magnificent acoustic. Lots of greetings and a big thank you to Aviv and you, peachy

Greetings Steven, from a sub-zero day in Cleveland.

A large part of my being is a substantial love for music. In fact it's second only to my love for my family. I'm an old guy (50) who has amassed a considerable and rather eclectic music collection over my lifetime. Over the years I had heard of Porcupine Tree, but for some reason never gave them a listen. Perhaps 5 or 6 months ago I ordered The Sky Moves Sideways. I was and still am in awe. My thirst for more quickly grew to the point that I now own the entire collection, less the one off EP's. I don't think there are adjectives to describe how I feel about the band's music. However, there are ways that I do get to share my appreciation with others. I have been quite fortunate in hooking up with a local college DJ (WJCU 88.7 FM) whose taste in adventuresome / off the beaten path music parallels mine. I come on "Mr. Bill's Taking Up Space" every three weeks or so to co-host. Bill is kind enough to relinquish control of the show over to me and I get the pleasure of turning an audience on to some stuff that perhaps they've never heard. At least that's my goal. With all that being said, one of these Thursday evenings starting at 9:30 there will be an entire show devoted to Porcupine Tree. I cannot thank the band enough for enriching ears, brain and heart. I hope others who hear your material feel the same. By the way, there is another band currently in the middle of my aural radar. They are Ego Likeness. Give 'em a listen.

Warm Regards,

Bob

Hi Steven, I was fortunate enough to not miss Porcupine Tree in Melbourne last year, I drove all the way from Adelaide to see you guys with 4 friends, that's a nine hour drive my friend, to see a band. I had been waiting since 1994 for you to get here too, as i was introduced to you by Glenn Povey of second wave promotions, as I used to be sound engineer for the Aussie Pink Floyd way back when, and he was our tour manager then. I must say your show was impeccable. The sound was fantastic but the lights were rather average, so don't use that Lx guy again. Please visit Adelaide next time and don't leave too long a gap as there are plenty of people here that really love your stuff..as I am sure you are now aware from the crowd in Melbourne. Last night a period of deepest melancholy peaked for me, and I started listening to some of your songs, like Moonloop (the uncut improvisation) and Anesthetize... songs like that are like a pleasant brainwash for my tired and twisted brain. Thank you, I appreciate the rest I get from listening.

Hm......

I am still waiting for my Insurgentes CD... Im so afraid that it got lost on its way. I am so keen on having it in my hands and discover all the packaging, the music, just the whole thing. I keep my fingers crossed that it it will arrive the next days.

Sorry, I know this might not be well placed here but it reflects how desperately I am :-( Insurgentes will be THE ultimate album for me... not having it before christmas would be a shock.

Apart from that: SW, you are my hero ;-)

-- ! My name is Katya. To me of 20 years. I live in a country town in the middle of Russia. It is far from that place where you live. Our city is similar to a muddy aquarium, where all as in a fog. The main thing for people here-it indifference and money. I have not enough friends, but I very much like music and books. This the only thing-that helps me not to descend here from mind. Music-it the most part of my life. Art Rock 60- 70 - it my passion. Camel,King Crimson,Pink Floyd, and...Porcupine Tree & you.I very much like your creativity. As in groups, and solo. You the unusual person. Probably such simply does not happen... of a blank Planet I have apprehended Album Fear as very personal experience. Such young men to whom already all has bothered in this life and which are not known that such by a real crash or war much in Russia. Tupogolovye clones imitating heroes from the TV. Not clearly that will be with our generation, after all they live only in a virtual reality, and do not know that such the present life. Thanks you for all. I wait for your new albums. You the best!

insurgentes = album of the year!

just one quick remark: i'm really sad that the impressive artwork contains no lyrics.
the movie teaser shows you complaining about great music in cheap jewel cases. as i see this, if the "packaging" is an inherent part of the musical artwork, this should also apply for the lyrics.
since i am not a native speaker, it would be great to make them available somehow.

greetings from germany!

I love music from Insurgentes album. I'd love to purchase a copy but... I won't. Why? Because for me complete work of Insurgentes is only 2xCD/DVDA version which is no longer available. If so - I don't see the reason for paying for so-called retail version which is omitting second CD.
I hope you are going to re-release these additional tracks later in some form (downloadable FLACs may be).

Mr. Wilson,
I just wanted to thank you for the music you've shared with the world. I've become a huge fan over the last ten years and I recommend Porcupine Tree to anyone I talk to about music and I'd like to think I've made the band a few new fans over the years, because your music inspires me to want to share it. I'm lucky enough to be a DJ on two radio stations in Vermont and I play PT every week on each show. I would enjoy the chance to interview you some time but am not sure how to go about trying to set that up. Would I contact management ? Since I don't deal with any record company people in regards to PT (I buy the music for myself) I can't go through them... If you could steer me to someone to submit a request to I'd be more than happy to do so, i just figured why not try the direct route. On my main show this week-called Off The Deep End-I'm planning to feature Insurgentes. What a disc-and thank you for deciding to expand the release since I missed it when it was first offered. I love the textures and light and dark of it. And of course the playing has well! You never cease to amaze my ears, I will tell you that...
I see that I've rambled here.... If you or anyone reading this would like to listen to my show, it streams live from 8PM-Midnight EST at Champrocks.com and the toll free number-from anywhere in the world-is 1-866-86-CHAMP. (Not sure about international codes) Thanks for taking the time to read this, and my your holidays be wonderful...
Warmest Regards,
Mike

what can I say, collected the book(?)from the sorting office this morning and completely blew away my wfh day...its amazing you have to be pleased with this latest music. Then there is the film extracts...I do not have an ipod for EXACTLY the reasons you state they betray the music. As for the comments on the art of an album cover, again totally 100% spot on...why is it that you and some others can make the effort - recently the special edition Marillion Happiness is the Road twin book set, they allow you to read / see and listen to the music. I cant wait for the full version of the film next year.

Fantastic record! Thanks!

There is so much beauty in the noise. There is also so much pure beauty. "Collecting Space" instantly became the soundtrack of this, yet very young, winter, for me. But I would really like to have the lyrics, I just don't get everything, no matter how hard I try.

Dear Steven,

Thanks very much! I received Insurgentesa couple of days ago and can't stop listening to it. You know how to write an opening track, and Harmony Korine is no exception.

I just watched the film extract, and it got me thinking about the way music is produced nowadays. Even though I'm one of the 'iPod generation' (and you sure seem to hate those things!), I really understand what you mean, especially about album sleeves, part of the reason I love the Insurgentes book. It's even kinda inspired me to get more into music.

So thanks for your music, whether it be in PT, No-Man or as a solo artist, and I look forwards to your next release.

Congratulations Steven!

The new album is amazing. I listened to it last night.

"No Twilight..." reminded me of The Mars Volta. Where they an inspiration? Probably on a subcounscious level... "Salvaging" has a stoner rock section which is "f*cking awesome" for lack of a better word ;)

The title track is one of the most contemplative songs you've ever written, but the whole album is brilliant.

The cover art really fits the mood of the album too. I don't know what else to say except thanks for releasing such masterpiece to the public, don't ever stop swimming.

Hi Steven,

Without giving my opinion, I think that's a very nice thing to do, just ask your fans for advice. You're the man (even more!)

Dear Steven

I read on your Myspace profile that you are considering a reprint / new edition of the "Insurgentes" Special Edition and that you asked for opionions about that.

Please do it.
I am one of those people that did not get one and I would really like to have it. It wouldn't be such annoying as it is for me, if I would not see all those Ebay-sellers now who are getting rich selling this thing for hundreds of pounds.
This is what really makes me angry.

So a new edition would really be appreciated, and I think I am not the only one.
I hope you'll do it.

Best regards
Tobias
