Gassendi-a bright streak of light was seen emanating from the outside rim of the south western wall of the crater towards the terminator,this was presumed to be a high point in the wall catching the first light of dawn.A short distance from the streak beyond the terminator a starlike point of light was seen - persumed to be first light on a high peak.

Comments:This was first Lunar light for the new Discovery newtonian.

A patrol of all areas was performed,detailed observations were conducted of the craters: Tycho,Alphonsus,Ptolemaeus,Eratosthenes and Brit.Rupes Recta (the straight wall),Rima Brit and the Apennine mountains were also observed.

Tycho was in sunrise lighting,the crater floor was in darkness the very topmost part central peak was in sunlight as was the top section of the crater rim,the central peak appeared as two starlike points.I had not observed this before.

During the rest of the patrol nothing unusual was observed.
