I love the writing style of Cydeny Rax. The characters are so dimensional and diverse, that it's unbeliveable. The opening gets you hooked from the start and leaves you wanting more until the end. Kudos to an awesome writer, with a genious stroke of putting pen to paper, conveying a clear message, unrivaled storyteller, and most of all being a leader to many.

I had never heard od a Cydney Rax until now. I was browsing the book selection in Wal-Mart for a good read and let's just say IT'S A WINNER! I'm looking forward to My Husbands Girlfriend, as soon as I read the first chapter I was out the door to Books-A-Million looking for it. In such a haste that I didn't look forward enough to see that it's not out yet. Cydney, you are a great writer! I almost felt compelled to read your novel because I know that you attended Eastern Michigan University, which is my school of choice this upcoming September. Your style and diction kept me turning pages! As an 18 year old with a 23 year old boyfriend, and a mother who looks no older than 35, this book spoke to me! Even though my mother is married and has little time to spare outside of her career (unlike Tracey, it seemed), her having an affair with my boyfriend seems ridiculous! But after browsing your sight, I realized that this type of affair happens all the time.
In a way, this book almost seemed unrealistic. Tracey's character was portrayed as selfish and not having a conscious. It's one thing to accidently kiss Aaron in the heat of a moment, but to go as far as inviting him over while Lauren is mourning herself to sleep is just irresponsible and trashy. It almost makes you question her parental senses. I also didn't understand why Lauren was taking the situation so lightly. Personally, I LOVE my boyfriend to death! If he cheated with my mother, I would no longer have a dying respect for her or him. I would respect her for the fact that she birthed me, but it would break my heart to the point that I would no longer want to live under her roof, especially if she continued it behind my back. Other than those instances, I would still recommend "My Daughter's Boyfriend" to anyone who has a love for great African American fiction! | |

I love the novel, My daughter boyfriend. Once I started reading the novel I could not put it down. I couldn't believe I found myself finishing it, because me, I normal pick up a book and don't even finish reading it. It was interesting and very graphic to my imagination. I just finished reading the book and it was soooo good! I really loved the fact that some people in reality do deal with problems like these. I think that Tracey really needed to find somebody who truly cared for her and that Lauren became more mature after dealing with the fact that her mom and her ex-boyfriend were dating and sleeping together. Tracey really needed stronger support in her life. This book was absolutely great and I cannot wait until you write another book. | |

I thought the book was a very easy read. I am an average reader(reading at least 4 books a week). I thought it was a very interesting story and nicely written for a first novel.
I was blown away when the book mentioned that some of the cousins were visiting from Alexandria, Louisiana. I was born and raised in Alexandria and not many people know about little ol' Alexandria :). That made the book even more interesting. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
