| Comments: | Hey band! I hope things are going good! I can't believe Mr. Kee left. Everyone who got to work with him is blessed. He was such a great teacher, and not just in the classroom. He taught us to strive for greatness and he taught us to always be better. He def yelled at us a lot...but we deserved it, lol. He gave me experiences I will never forget, playing in Flordia '03, playing in Washington DC '05, playing at the state capital, concerts, region, and many more. I will never forget the growth and experience working with him taught me. He not only taught me my music, but he taught me and prepared me for life. Never settle for anything less than the best, and if you aren't the best it's bc you didn't put effort into it, bc you can be whatever you want to be. Good luck band, and believe me when I say it will be some of the most memorable experiences of your life, so give it your all. When you get older and move on...you'll miss the lights, field, and the crowds. So make right now worth it. |

| Comments: | Awe the times the times we have had together(CFMS Symphonic Band)...from the first beginning when our horns we're brand new and we did'nt even know how to hold them right to now us rocking out on stage doing a good job on everything(An American March, A Song For Friends(Awe i love that so legato), Zeal, Awe so upbeat and good, and Superhero's-R-Us, which was so nice and cool)...You probally dont even remember Our 2 Christmas songs but i do playing Falice Navidad and that other one I forgot the name to but something nice...Remember EVERYTHING we've went through but cam out good in the end (low brass)...Flutes we're always nice tho besides the sharpness and flatness(TAVIA i told you to sit straight and use vibrato)other that we're all good!...
Love ya Fanny |

| Comments: | I would first off like to congratulate each band that participated in the concert contest this year. To the CFMS Symphonic Band, CFHS Concert Band, and to the CFHS Symphonic Band on there wonderful ratings!
I am extremely thankful and blessed to be apart of this band program. I thank each and every person involved in my success so far. I am so honored to have Mr. Kee, Mrs. Langley, Ms. Harrison, and retired but still helpful Mr. Porchia with me. Mr. Kee- You've always been like a father figure to me. There to show me and lead me into the right direction. I don't always agree with my father's decisions but I respect him and his decision. You're always there for me and disciplined me. Mr. Porchia- Kind of like the cool uncle who always takes you to the store after church. Strict, but yet moderate. Do what you're suppose to do and everything will be just fine. Mrs. Langley- You're the Aunt in this scenario...There when I need you type thing. Influences me on making desicions and reminds me of the possible outcome. Ms. Harrison- Mom! I don't really argue much with you. In fact, I don't think me and mom argue at all. You rock Ms. Harrison! You're always happy, and I can come to you with anything. I don't really know were I would be without my family. In fact, I couldn't even possibly begine to imagine were I would be without you guys! |

WE DID IT! ALL 1'S AT REGION MARCHING CONTEST! SUPERIOR RATINGS FOR A SUPERIOR BAND! I knew if we focused on our one goal, we would accomplish that plus more. We did an OUTSTANDING JOB TUESDAY NIGHT! I am so glad we have a WONDERFUL Band Staff! Mr. Kee, Ms. Harrison, Mrs. Langley, and even though he's not with us daily, MR. PORCHIA! And also the BAND PARENTS! This has been a great year so far. OUr directors have been ssooo instrumental to our success..No pun intended! =D I appreciate them and everything that they do. From time owed to time earned. From Jimi Hendrix to Sweet Sweet Spirit! Band! I really enjoyed this marching year! I know that we've had our ups and our downs; our sharps and our flats...But REALLY! WE did a KICK "you know what" JOB Tuesday night! WORDS OF MR. KEE- "When we focus on what we're doing and put our mind to it, Band, you are unstoppable!" "Father God we com-"..And the prayer roles on from there. Continue the good work and the "Proud Tradition of Pride!" -Tevin Wooten |

This is going to be a great year, I can see it already! It doesn't matter whether we're practicing inside or out, playing Jimi Hendrix or Chris Brown, or having to be in Uniforms or dress clothes, were always going to make it a great year because were together! :D Band Is the one place and the one time of the year that gets me in the mood for the school year! Being able to be with your friends enjoying a "interest/activity" , without having to worry about a Biology exam or worrying about how much running that your going to have to do in athletics is undescribable to "average" students! We'll always be happy as long as we have each other to depend on! Have a great 3 days left of summer, and start off the school year with an excellent "Note"!! ============================================================ VOTE SETH EILAND-CFHS Band Council Sophomore Representative! Sophomores!! I would appreciate your vote!! :D xD : ) : P ***********GOD BLESS FROM YOUR FRIEND AT CFHS!!************* |

| Comments: | Hey band, it was a wonderful show at region! It was a pleasure to stand in the endzone and listen to a band that I am just a year removed from. Brings back some wonderful memories, but also some not so good ones. But, I loved the show, and you all deserved that one that yall earned. Nothing is just given to you! Hard work pays off almost all the time!! Remember, never give up that pride that Camden Fairview is known for. It doesn't matter if you are 150 or 100, you still must have that pride inside at all times. GREAT JOB!! And, keep up the good work into the playoffs next week!! |

I am very proud of you and what you have accomplished this year. I know you couldn't see the rewards when you were out on that hot pavement in August, but now you understand what pride and commitment can earn you. You are a great group of talented musicians and colorguard, and once again it has been an honor to help you out in some small way. Keep it coming for Concert season, and truly strive to be "The Pride of Arkansas". Mr. B |

| Comments: | What`s up to the Cardinal Nation, and to every band member that have had there name called out at the last home game of the season, and a very special shout to the "Magnificent Band Brothers" ROLL CALL! Gary,Robert,Arthur Joe,and Fred Ross(may he rest in peace.) A family that (plays) together stays together. To my best @#%* friend, Raymond(R.I.P)Powell, Willie(HitMan)Andrews, to my frat brother that walked the line with me(Kappa Kappa Psi Sp.84) Mr. Steve Taylor, Dewayne Dorton, The leader of "The African Telephone Operators" The one and only Mr.Kenneth Bullock, Benard Alexander, and last but not no way the least, my cousin, the only man I know that can play "Flight Of The Bumble Bee" perfect on the Tuba, one of the best players to wear the red, white and black, Andre`(A-Minor) Minor. We came along in an era before we adopted Camden and Childester High, in the 7AAA days, when the football program was weak, when halftime was showtime for us. We were well respected then, and what I can see, still are. What I liked the most about the band back then was the crosstown rivaly, getting the halftime show ready over the summer session, breakin` in the Freshmen, learning the new moves and music. Cause Camden High was pretty routine, they were going to march from endzone to endzone, stop, and play "Bottle Dance" and march off the field, they were one of the last bands to convert from Military to Corps style. But I will give them props on Gerald McHenry and the Tuba section "The Boogie Ooogie Basses" that, and the females in the band, that was about the best thing going for them. If any of the old school or the new school read this, and it peak your interest, hit me up on my e-mail address. Love to all, peace, and I out. |

| Comments: | Oh what memories! I'll be going to my 40th high school reunion on the 3rd and 4th of August. I was just googling FHS when I found the band page.
The Fairview High School Band was such an important part of my life. My band directors were first, Mr. Dale Robbins, and then later, Robin Nix (Rockin Robin). It was the band that helped me feel better about myself. I loved the times in the practice hall, and just being a "part of the whole" which only a band member would understand. I laughed at the "You know you are a band nerd" because I still walk in step with others, and get a feeling of glee when the neon lights are blinking in time with the music on my raido. And I can still remember the taste of the reed in my mouthpiece. Music is still a huge part of my life. There's always music in my head. Thank you FHS for providing such a positive influence in my life. PS: I'm now an Adult Education Instructor at a Community College in Arkansas, teaching workplace skills, reading, writing, math, and computer skills. If any of you 1967 grads are reading this, I'll see you at the reunion! |
| Name: | A real band geek |
| Comments: | You know you're a band geek if...
1. Band is your favorite sport. 2. You hum band songs in other classes. 3. You've ever done roll-step while walking with a full plate or glass to keep things from spilling. 4. You've never been on a Friday night date, thanks to the football games. 5. You walk in step with any music you hear. 6. A snake is a favorite activity, not an animal. 7. You would never go to a football game if not for band. 8. "Hey Baby" really is the only pick-up line you know. 9. You hear the phrase "tongue harder" on a regular basis. 10. You know that "one more time" actually means "four or five more times". 11. You can't watch Pirates of the Caribbean without wondering what formation you should be in. 12. It bothers you when the person walking next to you isn't in step. 13. Your band director's phone number is on speed dial. 14. When you retell some of your favorite memories of summer, you start with the phrase, "This one time at band camp..." and mean it. 15. All your friends are in band. 16. You've actually been to band camp and consider it the highlight of your summer. 17. You know how to play 10 popular-stand tunes, but know the words to none of them. 18. You point out key changes and dynamics when you listen to the radio. 19. You've never had to pay to get into a football/basketball game. 20. You've never sat in your class section at a pep rally because you're always playing. 21. You start humming a showtune from three years ago and your friends join in with their respective parts. 22. You listen to band demo CDs in your car. 23. You know that "push in" and "pull out" are regular tuning phrases and are in no way sexual. 24. You see no pervertedness in the words tongueing, blowing, and fingering. 25. You are late for band because you were at another band rehersal. 26. You think there should be horn pops in symphonic band. (for marching band geeks) 27. You laugh at all of these because you know they're all true. 28. You realize you are out of step with the song in your head and you adjust your step. 29. You have constant arguments as to why your instrument is better. 30. You insist (no, KNOW) marching band is more physically and mentally taxing than football. 31. Even after you graduate, you still go to every competiton and sit with the band. 32. Someone asks you who your favorite band is and you say "High school or college? DCI? Which division? I, II or III?" 33. You have a mnemonic for the different modes... "I Don't Punch Like Muhammad A-Li" (Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian). 34. The entire floor of your trunk is littered with sheet music. 35. You're walking to class to the tempo of the ballad, the late bell rings, and you suddenly walk to tempo of the 3rd movement. 36. You carry a metronome in your pocket. 37. You feel the overwhelming compulsion to tap out a drum cadence on the nearest hard surface, even if that means tapping it out on the stranger standing next to you. 38. You know what it's like to have a reed frozen to your lips. 39. You know just how many people can fit into a band locker (from experience). 40. You get upset when an audience can't clap in time or on the right beats. 41. You use the excuse, "I can't, I have rehearsal" more than five times a week. 42. You can tell what someone plays just by looking at them. 43. You only know how football is played because you are forced to sit through the games. 44. You know your school song by heart, backwards, in the dark, sleeping, and in every key because you have played it so many times. 45. When you hear a school with the same fight song, you want to join in and play. 46. You can look at a little kid and guess what instrument they are going to eventually play... and guess right. 47. You get excited when you hear songs in movies that your jazz band or any other band played. 48. You automatically go to attention when you hear a whistle...including the ref's. 49. You continue doing band in college even if you are not majoring in music. 50. You get annoyed when you are listening to the radio and the car's blinker is not in sync with the beat of the music. 51. You subdivide into 8ths, 16ths, triplets, and quintuplets a turning signal, walk pace, song on the radio, or just about anything that keeps time. 52. You once drove back to your house going 60 mph because you forgot your music, or part of your uniform, or other essential item, before a practice or concert or competition. 53. You describe distance in 8-to-5 steps. 54. Someone threatening to kick your instrument is worse than someone threatening to kick you. 55. You have a favorite key and/or time signature. 56. You listen to a song and think about how cool it would be to arrange it for a field show. 57. You only date people who are in the band (or orchestra or choir). 58. You have most, if not all, of the songs your band(s) has ever played on your MP3 player. 59. You've ever suggested having a lock-in in the band hall. 60. 95% of your pictures in your scrapbook or photo album are pictures of things you did with the band. 61. When your friends call you a band geek, you don't deny it, and in fact, take it as a compliment. 62. You've ever tripped with your instrument and sacrificed your body to protect your horn. 63. You tap your foot to elevator music and the radio. 64. You don't go home on the day of a football game. 65. Your band locker is your personal space for anything and everything. 66. You rarely see your family during the fall because you are always doing marching band things. 67. When you're walking along with a friend, you automatically get in step and in time with their footsteps. 68. Your marching show is your ring tone. 69. You skip other classes due to weather, but then go to band. 70. You hear a slight beat and rhythm to everything around you... i.e., the air conditioner, the fan, the pencil scribble sound, and the squeaky desk. 71. You like the way reeds taste. 72. You wonder what it would be like to play the music in basically every movie you watch. 73. You can listen to a song and figure out the time signature, and often consult with other bandies who are doing the same thing at the same time. 74. You trade instruments when there's a substitute teacher for band class. 75. You've learned the hard way not to walk through the brass section without shoes. 76. You know that getting to a band event early means you're on time, on time means you're late, and late means you're in trouble. |

| Comments: | Dang how many years has it been since i have been in band 60 to be exact LOL naw just kidding. but anyways i haven't done anything with a trombone since my 11th grade year i kinda regret that but anywayz. I'm proud of each and everyone of you truly i am. When i was in band i did and said alot of nasty and mean immature things but i have learned and it ain't easy paying bills and rent trying to live the grown life but what does this have to do with band you may be asking EVERYTHING band prepared me somewhat for the real world it taught me commitment something you need in order to pay bills lol because there has been sometime Glory to God where i wanted to give up. But it showed me the true commitment that keeps me on my feet. Mr.kee always believed in me for some reason i don't even know why i was the worst band student in Band 2002-2005 LOL. but he never gave up on me I made all-region band 4 years in a row would have made it 5 but i got out of band boy was that stupid of me i hated seeing the band on the field and not being down there with them. Band to me wasn't about the playing of the instrument but to me it was the marching The shapes we made to the effects but anyways band has given me enough knowledge to know that everything isn't given to you, You have to work for it I worked for my awards in all-region, i worked to be the best of the best and i worked to achieve my ultimate goal and that was to look back and say Band Played an important role in my life. | Comments: | Hey band!!! I just wanted to let ya'll know ya'll have done good this year, and you have a lot of ppl watching you! Good luck in Flordia! It will be fun...I went my sophomore year, but there are some things you should know...if you sneak out of your rooms...you will get caught...we did it, and I bet they will have ya'll on lock down this year. Mr. Kee is going to kill you with those wool uniforms bc he will have you put them on and hour b4 you perform, and it like 110 degrees. Watch out for the railroad tracks in the middle of the road in Disney...you will fall during the parade, and it won't be pretty! You will also HATE burgers and fries by the time you get back. Drink LOTS of water!!! You will dehydrate VERY easily there...I did. Other than that...have a good and safe trip! I know ya'll will be awesome! |

| Comments: | The Best Band Dictionary Ever.
Alto Saxophone: An instrument that likes to annoy the band director by playing even after he stops the song and asking stupid questions. Squeaks on purpose and usually likes to make fun of every other section in the band. Attention: Standing completely still, even if bees fly into your hat or your contact lens rolls behind your eyeball. Band Camp: At least one week of playing on a sort of material considered by some to be considered dead grass and dirt while the staff attempts to train the drummers. And time where nobody actually cares about playing, its one big party. Band Member: One who willingly gives up their free time to spend endless hours marching on a football field with no apparent destination. Band Mommy: A member of the boosters extremely proficient in keeping track of minute details and making band members angry a little too often. Band 'Ten Hut: Sharp verbal command given by those in charge, immediately responded to with a shout of, PRIDE and stiff (correct) posture. Bari Saxophone: A.K.A. "The Pig," named for its tendancy to resemble an obese sacrificial sow with a head cold, tone-wise. Baritone: Instrument played by those who began to play trumpet, but could not achieve a big enough head. Basics: Warmup before competitions and rehearsal; marching back and forth in a 5-by-whatever block, paying attention to posture, heel position, phasing, and staying in step, among other things. Bus: Home away from home on trips. Good place for watching stupid movies that you shouldnt be on a school trip. Where stuff happens that the band directors would die about (if only they knew) Caffeine: The fuel that keeps sleep-deprived musicians functioning (relatively) normally. Cards: Small, rectangular pieces of plastic-coated paper which will keep band geeks entertained for hours on end. Clarinet: An instrument used solely when the music calls for sound effects of cats in blenders. Coffee: A hot, brown liquid containing large amounts of caffeine of great value to tired band members. Colorguard: Wannabe musicians who are used as distractions to keep the audience from noticing band members who are off-step. Dance around the field, waving flags, sabers, and rifles. Also known as the cutest and most outgoing chicks out there. Dance around and impress so that the band can get a 1 in something. Competition: A day when every local high school band comes out and performs in hopes of beating Magnolia and Parkview and all the other bands that think they're better than the others. A chance for band mommies, parents, and interested administrators to come and see just why band members have no lives. Conducting: Waving one's arms wildly about in the air to make the audience think something is going on, while, in truth, the band already knows what they're doing and the drummers won't pay attention anyway. Conductor: One who takes the place of the colorguard during a concert, entertaining the audience with new and astounding dance moves. Crayons: Sticks of colored wax used for artistic endeavors, particularily on long bus rides. Denny's: Open-All-Night restauaunt chain favored by band and drama students prior to their exile. Director: The person who claims to be in charge when everything is going well and claims denial when things go wrong. Dollar Bill: A piece of paper used to repair clarinet and saxaphone pads and purchase caffeinated beverages. Drill: Sheets of paper showing little black dots making pretty pictures. Good bonfire food. Drum Corps: How over-devoted musicians spend their summer vacations when they're forced to go out into the "real world." Drum Major: The student singled out by the staff to color on poker chips, lug stereo equipment, and run for coffee so they can be the ones to conduct the band on the field. Drummers: 1: A group of reality-impaired individuals who go around constantly beating on things, allowing themselves to think that they are a highly-evolved group of musicians when indeed, neither of those terms apply. 2: The synonym for "stupid", "dumb", and "brainless." Often used in the phrase, "You're such a dummer drummer!" Duct Tape: Grey cloth of amazing strength backed with heavy-duty adhesive; an integral part of band philosophy and solution to every problem known to man. Dynamics: Volume of the music; inversely proportional to the number of clarinets and stupid trumpets on the field. Early: Impossible Field: 100 yards in length, this is a wide expanse of mud, or more often dirt, on which bands perform. Contained within the area of this expanse are frequent sprinklers with occasional patches of grass. Flags: Large, floaty, shiny pieces of cloth on sticks waved by members of the colorguard. Good for "accidentally" thwacking annoying field judges. Flute: A silver pipe, immensely popular with beginning band students as it is the only instrument in which one can cross her legs while playing sitting down. Football Team: Those who would take over the band field. Football Game: The band's pre-show and post-show warm-up. Groupies: Those who are not in band yet wish they were cool enough to be. Often seen sitting in the hall by the band room or near the band section in the bleachers. Halt: Command in which everyone stops three beats afterwards. Hell: Summer Band (especially when freshman) Home: A place existing only in band members' imaginations as it is often described yet rarely seen. Instructor: One who spends three months telling you everything you're doing wrong, then congratulates your excellence. Interval: The space between two band members, often changing in an amoebic fashion. Late: Death Life: Supposedly it exists, but has yet to be discovered by band members. Marking Time: Marching without going anywhere. Makes you look like idiots. Mellophone: A french horn re-designed so that the sound, which intentionally goes backwards in concert band, may be redirected at the audience to inflict pain and suffering. Melody: Whatever is being played the loudest, usually the trumpets by default. (default, yeah right) Monty Python: A British comedy troupe with such cultural productions as "The Search for the Holy Grail," "The Ministry of Silly Walks," and the infamous "Spam Sketch." Mountain Dew: A cold, green liquid containing great amounts of caffeine. The Nectar of Life during marching band season. Mouthpiece: A critical component of any brass or woodwind instrument which has a tendency to sprout legs and wander off of its own accord. Punishable by 'shups or pushing the wall. Music: 1. Paper containing lots of lines and little dots which supposedly tell you what the show should sound like. A killjoy for those who enjoy improvisation. 2. That noise which can be heard emanating from the bandroom or rehearsal field at any odd hour of the day. Notes: The language of music, just as clarinetists speak English and drummers bang their heads against things. On Time: outlandish Parade Rest: Standing at attention with one's hands clasped in front and legs apart. Usual position during retreat. Parents: Adult figures seen only occasionally, usually at home. Pass-Through: A move in which two lines cross paths, often resulting in bruises and dented and/or broken instruments for both parties involved. Pep Band: A group of musicians who get free admission to basketball and football games so they can play music during time-outs, blow bubbles, annoy the players, and see how many rules they can break. Piccolo: A small flute with a tone that only a banshee could love. Cannot be tuned, and is therefore relegated to the extremities of the field. Used to torture indolent sophomores. Plume: A large, highly-flammable feathered rod vaguely resembling a taxidermified cat's tail. Rubbed for good luck prior to competition. Poker Chip: A small plastic disc emblazoned with one's drill number, used for marking sets during rehearsal. Rain: Drops of water which fall from the sky; nature's way of telling musicians to practice indoors. Will not stop rehearsal. Rehearsal Arc: A loose semi-circle in which the band stands for long periods of time while waiting for flutes to tune. (usually several hours between the flutes constantly change due to airheadedness) Rehearsal: Three or six hours spent marching around the back field while under constant secrutiny by the staff. Retreat: The last part of a competition, in which bands stand at parade rest for indeterminate periods of time while waiting for the announcer to call one school's name a bunch of times so they can go home. Rifle: A gun made out of white wood tossed by the colorguard. Though bullet-less, can cause serious damage. Roll-Step: A method of walking in which one's head does not bounce. Good for preventing lunch-tray-spillage in a crowded cafeteria. Saber: An artificial sword made out of plastic, used by colorguard members to show, via force, who's boss. Scale: A pattern of notes progressing in a logical order to, in theory, sound relatively pleasant. Section Leader: One who thinks they are in charge, though they have just as much trouble remembering music as anyone else. Shako: Headwear of choice, never to be set with the top on the ground. Decorated with plumes. Shoe: That which can be used as ammunition for target practice by the director. Sight-Reading: The first time playing a new piece of music. Usually sounds as if the composer had intended their music to be played during a train wreck, or as a trainwreck. Slide: 1. Device used by trombone players to change notes. Excellent disguise for poking innocent woodwinds in the backs. 2. A marching maneuver in which the torso is parallel to the stands while the feet are pointed another direction. Saves band members from frequent chiropractic visits. Solo: A chance for a few special musicians to play the melody themselves, sitting out during rehearsal and laughing at the poor saps who have to march. Sousaphone: A large, low-pitched brass instrument which makes an exceptional hula-hoop. Goes crunch when sat upon by flutists. Squeak: Clarinet section's tuning note of choice. Staff: Band alumni who cannot, no matter how hard they try, give up marching band and eventually try to eke out a living by being in charge. Telephone: A device whose sound is often heard while the band director is directing, usually another band director buddy who has already called 12 times that day to discuss stupid band director gossip. Tempo: Speed of the music; directly proportional to the amount of Mountain Dew consumed before rehearsal. Tenor Saxophone: A larger version of an alto sax, but sounds like a German cat in a large food processor. Theory: A two-hour annual lecture from the director, explaining why key signatures are relevant in the whole scheme of Life, the Universe, and Everything. Trombone: A brass instrument with a slide instead of valves, as even three buttons were completely baffling. Trumpet: A brass instrument which, strangely, has a tendency to swell the head of the player. At the moment, there is no scientific evidence to prove this, but it's under way... Tune: A time for the band to rest while waiting for the piccolos and flutes. Uniform Violation: jacket not zipped, hanger backwards, junk in shako boxes, happy zippers, placed on wrong racks. Valves: Sort of like woodwind buttons, but greatly simplified for brass mentalities. Visuals: Futile attempts to turn the band into a colorguard. Vocals: When the band attempts to yell louder than all the talking audience in the stands. Woodwinds: Proof that God has a sense of humor. Xylophone: A percussion instument who's keys seem to draw the player's eyes so that they do not look up at their conductor, ever |
