| Comments: | Hey Bruce, it's Lindsay. Just wanted to drop in and say hi. It's strange how experiences turn to mere memories so quickly. After being on the ship for 7 days, it began to feel like that life was just my existence (can't imagine how it must feel for you). Like I said, I felt pretty alienated from most of the ship and couldn't identify with most passengers..but now it's sorta like I left a big family reunion of people I never identified with but belong to by default. I kinda miss it. Tough to get back into the groove here in Chicago. Anyway, I had a great time. Being able to watch you perform definitely enhanced the experience. Whenever I go to shows, I'm not there to hear a singer sing. I want to feel everything that the performer is in that moment of time. Of course I appreciate a flawless delivery, but I think technique should be at the service of the message. That's what you do and why I came to see you play as often as possible. It's refreshing to meet someone else who clearly feels the same way about music as a vehicle of expression. Thanks for letting me play with you again. For whatever reason I was definitely nervous and couldn't concentrate much on timing. You're a super nice, approachable guy, but it's tough to avoid some level of intimidation when playing with experienced musicians. But I had an amazing time nonetheless and love any experience I can get. I left that ship inspired and motivated, so I'm heading over to an open mic tonight. Last night my flight was delayed in Tampa for a 4 hours...man, WHAT a drag- didn't get home til 3 am. But I was able to finish up Road Stories. Incredible stuff. I kept pulling out quotes I wanted to go back to. One part that stuck with me in particular was “So many of us reside in that box that removes us from others, giving us some concept of owning some personal space that others are not to enter neither physically, verbally or visually.” You couldn't have put it better and it's one of the saddest truths about humankind. Wish we could all just reach out to each other more. If you and I ever chat again, I'd love to talk to you about your religion. I never grew up going to church, and I'm not really sure where I stand in that area, but it seems to have provided you with a lot. | Comments: | I first heard of and met Bruce on a cruise 06/09. There were many fine musical options during the week on the ship but none as smooth and talented as Bruce Barham. He was very professional and personable during each of his performances. He made one mistake during one of his performances, he said he would buy a drink for anyone who could name the author of the song he was about to play. I didn't know it but my wife remembered it and won the prize. It was a pleasure to listen to Bruce for the week and now I have begun the search to find his music. The finest musicians from our state (e.g. Garth Brooks and Reba McIntire) leave the state to achieve fame and success but should any, like Bruce, happen through Oklahoma they are certainly welcome. |
