When hurriedly visiting this website yesterday to leave my good wishes, I didn’t have time to read previous comments left by your many fans. However, revisiting it today I was mortified to learn that you had had a heart problem recently; I hope that it is only a minor problem and that you will make a full recovery. I saw you October 2009 in Manchester and you all looked so fit and well. What a great show that was! It was a reawakening for me having been in a caring role for many years. I was dancing around for months and months and told my friends that they were not to burst my bubble. Until today I knew nothing of Shaddowmania it sounds great fun I must look into it. If it’s an annual event and held in the UK, I will put it on my ‘must do’ list for 2011. It would be lovely to see and hear you play again, particularly as the Shaddows may not embark on another UK tour. I sincerely hope that you do though. Living in the north on an exotic island, same one as HRH, Llandudno is the nearest large town with a theatre and last year I saw Jet Harris when he toured with Marty Wilde. It was a good show. Jet played beautifully as ever. Of course, no one knew he was seriously ill and it came as a shock to learn a couple of months later that he had died. Well Bruce, please take care and I hope to see or hear of you for many years to come. |

| Comments: | Hi Bruce, I have met you a few times while we have both been out walking our dogs in the park (I won't say which one). After saying hello I looked at your web site and have been listening to your music some of which I will now get. I like the site and find the past and present guitar section very interesting. I have for instance never heard of Grimshaw Guitar until now. Just before I go. I used to play in a cricket match once a year in Suffolk with some chums and two of us took our acoustic guitars along. Over the years this built up to 5 of us booking a studio and thrashing out ten numbers to play each year at the after game party. I was given the job of playing bass lines on a six string as we had no bass. The drummer told me his pal had one he did not play anymore and wanted £10 for it so I gave him the cash and he said he would bring it to our next practice. He turned up and handed me two taped together black bin bags and said "here you go". I ripped open the bin bags to reveal a 1975 white fender precision in mint condition. That was the best bargain of my life. I used it with a band I was in called Slaphead but after time we split up and it sat in it's case in the corner of my bed room for about 8 years. I have a six string that I play for my own pleasure but took the bass in to sell second hand. Some one has just bought it for £1,100 so it was my best ever investment. Keep up the good work and I look forward to listening to lots more of your music.

| Comments: | I listened to the "Shads" whilst growing up and they had a big influence on my musical career. I now play eleven instruments but my fav. instrument is my strat. Back in the 90's when we were gigging , we dropped at lest 2-3 Shads hits into each spot and they always went down well with both young and old which shows just how much your music has touched more than one generation. I met you, Hank and Cliff in Nottingham in the 90's and i'm not on my own when I say " why can't you come back and do the odd show now and again" ? here's hoping... |

If I may say one thing about Bruce Welch, it is, I think not Hank Marvin, but Bruce Welch was the real man behind The Shadows/Cliff Richard and so on... Looking trough the albums of the Shadows and Cliff, I see 'Welch' just named the most, lots more than Marvin... Also; I find Bruce has an amazing voice..... There's really not any other singer I've ever heard, which has that gentle kind of voice Bruce has..... A little question; I found a song written and sung solo by Bruce called "Believe in me"... I really love that song, but I can't exactly hear what he sings.... So, if ANYONE could tell me the right lyrics from that song, I'd be very thankfull!!! |

Last week I saw a Shadows DVD on display, whilst I was in a que at the post office in North Sydney Australia. The DVD's title is "Live in Liverpool". I purchased 2 and mailed one to my ex husband in Switzerlandand. Your music brings back very happy memories of when we dated back in 1967. I have been watching your DVD almost daily. We started this band in the late sixties,and reunited a few month ago. We play mostly in Germany with a lot of succes. I have been a long term of the Shadows and remember the release of the Shadows first album in 1960 - I was 13. With my young brother and two friends I formed a band that year and we started to write songs. In 1964 we came second in a National Competition with a song called In The Past. The prize was a recording contract and the opportunity to record at Abbey Road. The winnerss (by half a point) were known as The Overlanders who had a No1 Hit with Michelle. We were very disappointed but later found out that Norrie Paramour showed a great and interest in our band and told managaer that we should contact his office. Unfortunately we never heard about this for a long time after. We sacked the manager. In 1962 we had moved from Harlesden to Headstone Lane, Harrow and soon after The release of Wonderful Land we realised that you lived on Headstone Lane. One Sunday afternoon my brother, Geoff called at your house and asked if you would listen to our Demo and a short while later you drove onto our driveway with Geoff in your Rolls Royce. You shared a cup of tea with us and then you my mum and dad asked for permission to take our demo of In The Past to your studio in Stanmore. The Shadows and Cliff recorded the song seperately and my friend, Maurice received royalties. I never was credited for my involvement. I went to see The Shadows with Cliff in Sheffield on 14 October with my partner and we thoroughly enjoyed it. THe next day we visited Sheffield and went to the Wintergarden Museum. We were looking at the Sheffield Steel exhibit and I became aware of someone who looked like you. By the time I had spoken to Moira if she thought it was you; you were gone and I never got the chance to introduce myself. If you ever do read this I wonder if you could confirm whether you were in the museuam. It haunts me. Thanks for all the great music and memories associated with The Shadows. I think your tribute to Bruce is superb and much deserved. More than often the focus in a band is the vocalist and/or guitarist. Rhythm guitarists, bassists and drummers can have their contributions overlooked. For me it was gestalt with The Shadows - the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. The sound they collectively produced was awesome and this was down to Bruce as much as any of the other contributors. Two examples of Bruce's rhythm guitar playing that I believe to be amongst the best you are ever likely to hear are The Savage and Quatermasster's Stores. This is fantastic. Finally a place for Brucie. Bruce i love ya, always did. Your contribution to The Shads and Cliff is beyond compare, as well as your influence on the Brit scene in general. Words can't always cover it can they. But I AM a loyal fan and always will be. Thanks also for the shadowmania gigs, a lot of hard work I know but vital to keeping the name and music alive,as well as giving something back. I myself have never been to one of them but I am pleased to see its all working out. My love of course to Hank to, even though I have found him difficult to follow in recent years, he's still a star to me, and Brian of course. One thing I would like to say though. Outside of you dear friend, and speaking as a former Bassist myself, my biggest Shads hero was always John Rostill. Speaking for myself as well as others of John's fans, I think its's perhaps time for something for him. Not only a gifted somg write but a Bassist ahead of his time, and probably the best ever, alongside John Entwhistle. just a thought old buddy. I Know lots of people who say (The Shadows Oh yes Hank Marvin) I say and always have The Shadows without bruce would be like a cup of coffee without the coffee.
