SUGAR WAS MY MINNIE DACHSHUND WITH PERSONALITY PLUS ONE OF HER FAVORITE THINGS WAS TO WALK THE CURB . EVERYTIME WE OUT SIDE THATS WHERE SHE WOULD HEAD . WHY I DON'T KNOW .THEN ONE EVENING AS WE RETURNED TO OUR APARTMENT DOOR , SHE YELPED RAN OUT OF HER COLLAR BACK OUT IN THE YARD. UPON INSPECTION I FOUND OUT WHY. THERE ABOUT TWO INCHES FROM THE DOOR WAS A ONE BUTTON RATTLE SNAKE . IT HAD BITTEN HER ON THE NOSE . RUSHING HER TO THE EMERGENCY VET HOSP.SHE WAS GIVEN AN ANTI VENUM SHOT . SHE RECOVERED WITH GREAT SPIRIT . ABOUT SIX MONTHS LATER SHE WAS MAULED BY A ROTWALLER AGAIN WHEN WE WERE OUTSIDE FOR OUR EVENING WALK . ALL HAPPENING AT MY FEET . SHE SPENT THE NEXT FOUR WEEKS IN HOSP. UNDERGOING FOUR SURGERY'S HER SKIN HAD GOTTEN GANGRENE. SURVIVING ALL OF THIS WE THOUGHT SHE WOULD LIVE A LONG LIFE, BUT NO SHE DEVELOPED THE C WORD CANCER. AS IN HUMANS IT WOULD TAKE IT'S TOLL ON HER ALSO. THAT WONDERFUL LITTLE BABY GIRL LIVED FOR FOUR MORE YEARS SUFFERING VERY BAD IN THE END. IT REALLY BREAKS MY HEART EVEN TO THIS DAY TO JUST THINK ABOUT HER . AFTER ALL TO ME SHE SAVED MY LIFE TWICE AND I COULDN'T SAVE HER IN THE END. I DO KNOW THAT SHE AND I WILL BE TOGETHER IN OUR FINAL RESTING PLACE FOR SHE WILL BE WITH ME ONCE AGAIN . WHEN YOU LOSE A PET IT IS LIKE LOSING A CHILD , FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS PRIOR TO LOSING SUGAR I HAD ALSO LOST MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER THE ONE THAT HAD PRESENTED SUGAR TO ME , MY LAST CONTACT WITH MY DAUGHTER . THESE LOSSES HAPPENED IN MAY 2003 AND APRIL 2004. MY TWO BABY GIRLS (note from camarila to larry: dear larry, thanks for sharing your joy and sorrow with all my visitors...many people only find this site by looking for the Rainbow Bridge poem...if you saw my own pups on my site, jake and layla, i actually lost jake to cancer early last year, but haven't been able to bear taking him off my "current" page yet...all my good wishes are with you, camarila) |

| Comments: | Thank you so much for your beautiful Dog's Prayer with the music. For yesterday my wife and I put to rest our faithful, loving friend. She was a ball of fur named Sissy (a Spitz). Sometimes cantankerous, but always loving. She lived to a ripe age of 15 and had been through a lot of pain and suffering in her early years. At the age of 3 she was run-over and had to have surgery. She lost her beautiful, curled tail and have to have a steel plate to hold her spine and hip together. She never gave up and lived her life to the fullest. She even managed to break her leg three times jumping off of the porch to chase cats. Yet, she remained happy and loving. She was our child (we are in our late 50's) and it hurts so bad to lose her. But, I know she is in a better place, whole and happy again at the feet of our Lord.

I just finished reading the Rainbow bridge poem. It is very heart touching. It brought back the loving memories of my trusting pet, Duke. He was an English Springer Spaniel. The day that he passed was very hard for me. I had loved him for 14 years of my life. It took me nearly 3 years for my husband to convince me to get another puppy. Although, no one can take Duke's place in my heart, I can't wait to be reunited with him and cross the Rainbow Bridge together. Thank you for that poem, Trisha |

| Comments: | My AKC peke was given the unusual name "Sammy The Seal" because when he and his FOUR brothers and sister were born, Kofi Kup (the mother) was my first love---and my elder son was proud of his new ability to read. I had an official Chinese name for him with AKC--but for all intent and purposes he became Sammy The Seal.
And in typical manner he hated the children! He was my true companion and support in life at that time. He would hide under the sofa until I came home--then come out and sit on my lap--or go playing in the back yard with me. If ever there were a Heavenly experience--it is called owning and being loved by a Peke! I miss him yet today. But we are still very much together! |

He understood everything I said to him and he was a talker. He was a little Shitz Tzu and I miss him so much. I do have another dog a Lhasa Apso, a friend got for me 4 months ago and was keeping for me. She was lost and they took her, she is about 3 years old and a very good little dog. | Comments: | I am so happy that I finally found the specific poem I had been looking for. When I met my husband, 7 years ago, we had 4 dogs between us. We lost Nicky (Golden Retriever) a few years after we were married. I rescued her from a shelter many years earlier, but as for so many older dogs, she was on her last days at the shelter. I fell in love immediately. My husband at the time had a black chow named Bear. We had to move, a friend took Bear. Right before Christmas, we got a phone call and found out Bear was sick. She held on for a few weeks, but eventually she lost her fight. Old age had caught up with her. We miss her so much. When Nicky died, I received the Rainbow Bridge poem and had never read anything so beautiful. When I went to find the poem, I had not realized that there were so many versions. I will be sending our friend who took such good care and gave lots of love to Bear the version I had been looking for for so long. Thank you very much. |

| Comments: | We were given 2 pekinese dogs that are sister and brother. Both have different markings. We were told that they were about 4 years old, and they had no record of vactionations. But I was given the name of the orgioanl owner who had moved to Florida and wanted nothing more to do with these animals. After contacting Animal Control, we found out that they were born May 93 and had not had their rabies shots since 2000. We had them immediatly vacantated at Petco where they only charge 10.00. We are almost a having them one month and they have brought us so much joy, and laughter. They are like people and yes ours snore too. We have 2 other dogs and a cat. We have a 3 year old Chow, a 4 year old Beagal, and almost 2 year old male cat. We are kept very busy with these animals which we call our children.Everyone in our family gets along great.. at times we may have a growl here or there a hiss from the cat, but in general we are just one large family. They all have their own beds in 2 rooms. You may call us crazy but its true. We invite anyone to write us at our e-mail address listed above and we are always interested in suggestions. Should you ever have a dog or cat that you would not want any more, we can give it a loving home. We have taken in these animals and are doing just fine.
