You certainly have done alot of work putting your site together. Thanks for sharing the information. I found it extremely interesting and helpful. The information I gleaned from your website will be a great addition to the data I've already collected on the history of my family.

My grandmother's maiden name was Hattie Saucier and I understand that the town of Saucier, Mississippi was named after my family. My grandmother, Hattie, father who was Jesse Monroe Saucier died in a logging accident in Jan. 1899. He was married to my great grandmother "Lizzie" who was Elizabeth Allen. Please contact me if you are related in anyway. Thanks

I am looking for information on a Henri LaFleur, who was married to Margaret Crow(e)...who had a daughter Magdeleine, who married Austin Holbrook.
We have a view leads;and have heard that Henri was actually a Poupart(from Canada);but we are perplexed as to the fact that Henri was an educated man, and left a will listing his name as Henri LaFleur, not Henri Poupart, dit LaFleur as one person suggets.
If this rings a bell to anyone..please contact me at the email address above..I would sure appreciate it

we are related to Jean Louis Cravatte who married a Nahomtima, of the Choctaw Nation, and had daughters, Rebecca and Nancy who married Louis LeFlore. He then married an unknown Chickasaw. I am related to Jefferson Cravatte who married Chickasaw Governor Cyrus Harris's daughter. My ggrandmother was Sophia Cravatte and my grandmother was Sophia Fry. Most of the living Chickasaw's descended from Jean Louis Cravatte go by CRAVAT on the Dawes Rolls.

Comments:Hello,
I found your this entry below while searching for DeVaux's in Alabama. In particular my sisters and I are researching the paternal side of the DeVaux's. My grandfather Francis DeVaux who applied for soc sec card in Mobile, AL appears to have been given the same birth date and social security number as another Francis DeVaux living in Mobile, AL. The problem is that Frances DeVaux of Al is reported to have died in AL in 1979. My grandfather Francis lived in Oregon (applied for soc sec # in AL) but died 1952 in Newport, OR. His soc sec # was 419-03-8831 and Sarah DeVoe/DeVaux's soc sec # I notice was 419-03-9443. I do know that the first three #s are the state where the card was applied for and that the last numbers simply ran from I forgot what 0011 lets say to 9999. I'm not sure if there is a connection with the middle two numbers but I am very interested in researching Sarah DeVoe/DeVaux and that family line to see if there is any connection to the following people who I'll list the oldest family member first. My grandfathers story second and several hands later of course :O) is: DeVaux families deported from France some with the spelling DeVeaux and cousins branched off some changing spelling to DeVaux most of them came in through Canada settling in or near Sharon CT. The family is believed to have originated in England and possibly have ties to the DeVaux castle (not verified).
1. Eugene DeVaux born abt 1840 place unkn w/ wife Hortance/Hortense Belot. Lived in Sharon, CT with five kids. Hortance /Hortense was aprox 33 y.o.
2. Clemen Joeseph/Joseph DeVaux born 10/22/1895
3. Francis DeVaux born 10/05/1902 had a brother Abel or Alfred and they had lived in Sharon CT. Francis was in the Navy and Married Carrie L Clark (her second marriage) 07/23/1923.
4. My father is Clement Royal DeVaux (deceased) son of Francis and Carrie DeVaux.

I do know that sometimes husband and wife shared one social security number but I wonder if Francis Edmond DeVaux of Mobile, AL and my grandfather Francis DeVaux were cousins Another interesting thing is that Francis DeVaux of AL occupation listed as: machinist and my grandfather Francis DeVaux was also a machinist. The two Francis's could not be the same person as Francis in Al had several children while Francis in Oregon had one child. He did have a brother Abel or Alfred who would visit him over the years on Oregon and the brother had continued to live in CT. Also there was a family rumor that two DeVaux first cousins were so in love that they went before a judge proving surgery to prevent child bearing in order to get permission to marry. My mother who has Parkinson's can not remember their names but said they visited in Oregon also and were very much in love over the years. Thank you so much for your time. If you know of any DeVaux's please pass this on and I'd appreciate any thing you can ad to our family search. I am willing to pay for copies or photos of any pertinent info. My grandfather had a dark complexion and claimed to be of French and Indian descent.
Sincerely,
Dara DeVaux (Evans) dara119@chorus.net

Comments:Very intersting, indeed. Thank you for sharing my history. One of my original ancestors, Laurent Laurent, was a soldier in Marchand's army ... or so I have heard from family genealogists. He married Jeanne Mahoud and had at least 4 children at Ft. Toulouse in the 1760s. I wonder if Jeanne was a Cassette girl? One of his descendants, Bartholomie Laurent (spelled Lorant in several documents) had a plantation in early Mobile which is mentioned in DeVille's book "Colonial Mobile." I recently joined a yahoo group titled "CreoleAncestry" where descendants of Eslava, Collins, LaCoste, Laurendine, etc., exchange stories and old photos.

Jerry's father was Irishman Arthur Kearney who came in with French occupation troops for MS Valley and was a Trader with Choctaws. Also need data on Irishman Kearney who m. Choctaw Hoka and their child Jeremiah was baptised in l795 at age @ 9 years at Immaculate Conception Church in Mobile. Searching for descs. of Jerry who d. in MS, I believe, @ mid-l848 and his children emigrated to Indian Territory. Will gladly exchange data. June Carney Pollard, Franklin, TN

Comments:This is very interesting information. I am researching the line of Jeremiah Carney, half-Choctaw and signer of Doak's and Dancing Rabbit CR Treaties, whose father was Irishman Arthur Carney. Arthur came into the MS Valley with the French occupation troops and was a Trader with the Choctaws. Also have researched the line of Choctaw Iklanby or Iklanabbee who supposed married Sally Kearney and took the name of John Carney - this John Carney connects to my TN Carney ancestors, by marriage but not by blood-tie. Would love to correspond with those who have knowledge of these two Choctaw lines. Jeremiah probably died in MS in l848 and his siblings emigrated to I.T. - trying to track these descendants. Will exchange data.

I have ancestry, Mottes and Gordons that lived in Clark Co., Alabama in the early 1800's while it was still Mississippi Territory. I've driven the coast and visited Clark Co. It's beautiful country but how did everyone survive chiggers? I'm the Indians had a cure.

Comments:Hi. great page.
I am doing a geneological search on the Lefleurs. My research indicates that Greenwood LeFlore had a daughter named Margaret who was born in 1830. I don't have clues to her mother was. I wonder...
1 Do any of your records indicate her?
2. Do we know when Greenwood LeFlore and Rebecca Cravat were married?
3. Did Greenwood have children other than with his wife Rebecca?

MANY MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY ARE INTO GENEOLOGY, SO I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE WITH A LOT OF AWARENESS, BUT I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND ANY INFO ON THE LEFLEAU'S BEFORE 1735/BEFORE PIERRE ANDRE OR SIEUR LEFLEAU. IF ANYONE OUT THERE COULD STEER ME INTO THE RIGHT DIRECTION THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL-PLS FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME. I HEAR ONE OF THE BROTHERS USE TO BE A BODYGUARD FOR NAPOLEON BONAPART. IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE IF IT IS TRUE. :)

Comments:Very interesting review of early history of the Gulf Coast. I would like to read more sources with some more detail. My connections with Mobile come from Alexis Tardy, who came from New Rochelle, France, to San Domingo (what is now Hispanola), fled the slave uprising there in 1793 to Philadelphia, then to Charleston, where his son Balthazar was born. He moved to Mobile some time between 1814 and 1825. I would certainly like to see more history of that area around that period.
