Mainly, you have to have a relative on the Dawes Roll and be a descendent of them through parental names and birth certificates, to be enrolled into a tribe. There are a few exceptions but not many. I have questions about: Depositions for Michael EHLERT before IA by James CORNELLS, Sam DALE, Zachariah McGIRTH in your Creek documents, at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cmamcrk4/crkdox19.html#anchor1171326 shared by Steve Travis. I am a descendant of Samuel Elbert (Georgia, 1740-1788) who worked as a boy (circa 1755) under John Rae (mentioned in Lachlan MacGillivray's will, http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cmamcrk4/crkdox27.html#anchor1047473) as an Indian trader and who served under General Lachlan MacIntosh (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lachlan_McIntosh) during the American Revolution (and was quite loyal to him) I note that Elbert and his wife Elizabeth Rae (John Rae's daughter) are not mentioned in Lachlan MacGillivray's will while Rae, his wife Catherine, and other daughter Jean Sommerville are (I assume this is either because of Elbert's ties to MacIntosh or to the American Revolution; the MacGillivray's were loyalists, as Elbert originally was, but switched). I would like to see the originals of the documents shared by Mr. Travis, because of the various spellings of Ehlert (also spelled Elhart and I think Elliot). I am wondering if in any way this could be a corruption of the name Elbert and if Michale Ehlert is a long lost distant cousin, because of course, Elbert was quite close to some of the Creeks and in fact the Creeks apparently spared/saved his life once in the woods. Thus I'm checking to see if he is an Elbert descendant by a Creek wife, possibly a grandson. Some of these even have names mentioned such as the one for the "pbc v001 d007", they actually give partial genealogies.. on the Weatherfords, McGees and so forth. It takes a while to load, but well worth it |

I am trying to do our family tree, My parents and anyone that could help me are now deceased. Everyone in the family (brothers and sister children) wants to know where we come from and how we managed to remain in Alabama when most of the Indians were sent to Oklahoma. I love reading your articles and find them interesting whether I can find any answers or not. I am interested in the families of Talley, Williams, Presley, McDonald and Blankenship. I was raised at several traditional grounds. The most influential my Grandfather, Alex Sulphur, and Phillip Deere, the one who raised me. Years later when I pressed for anything she could remember she said all she knew was they were called Red Stick Men. I thought Red Men as all Indian were refered as she insisted Red Stick Men. Bless her heart at the time I did not believe her. Her family is from Calhoun, Winston and Lawrence Co AL. For a long time I thought nothing more until I had time to study geneology of my family. | Comments: | I have worked with the American Indian Movement in SD, and lived with the traditional Dineh resisting relocation at Big Mountain in AZ. I have Creek blood from my fraternal grandfather's mother. Your site was informative, but I was shocked at some of the language, and characterizations used. Tekamthi (Tecumseh) was one of the greatest persons born on this continent, and to use the term "bloodthirsty" regarding him, or those who saw the truth in his plea for pan-Indian solidarity is grotesque. To call any of the "white" geoncidiers, also called "pioneers, settlers, immigrants" a "hero", is equally offensive. The "allied" Creeks, and the ignorant Cherokee mercenaries, got "justice" in the end at the hands of the white scum who manipulated them against the resistance. The "Red Sticks" were the only true heros and real "patriots" during the "Creek War". May Andrew Jackson rot in the Christians' "Hell"!!!!! One thing I have learned from living with traditional Indians across this land is that blood quantim is meaningless. The content of a person's heart is all that really matters. |

| Comments: | Very nice site. Interesting references to "wart takers", etc. Allegedly my G/Mother was full blood Creek, her name was Harriet Suphronia (Wilson) Reynolds. My dad removed warts, his brother could stop bleeding, and another brother took away heat..i.e. sunburn, infections, fevers. My Dad always said the abilities were random, and usually skipped one generation, then showed up in the next, but in the opposite gender group. I've always wondered about that.
Any info any one has on my g/mother would be appreciated..her birth date would have been 1878 or 79;probably in lower Alabama, as she married and had 12 kids before leaving there for Florida. thanks a bunch for a site well done |
