My great grandmother mentioned this when she was 95 and she was not in good health at the time, I could not get any more information from her. I am researching her name in hopes of finding more information. Her name was Mary Emma Hancock Mclendon and she lived in Berrien County Georgia. |

| Comments: | I am definitely interested in the Colbert Nation, as I have traced my ancestry back to slave owners.
Being a History buff, I've spent quite some time searching for pictures of Abraham Lincoln. While he did manage to irk my forefathers by setting their slaves free, he also helped me be where I am today: one of the freed slaves ended up marrying me great-great-great-great grandpappy. Small world, eh? THANK YOU for this site. |

| Comments: | Hello,
I enjoyed looking at your site. I Googled George Colbert and John Mitchell and yours was the first 'hit'. My interest is in tracing my gggGrandfather George Colbert b. 1809 in SC. My theory is that he is a son or nephew of Chief George Tootemastubbie Colbert. The roadblock for me has been the fact that my George (b.1809) is in the census sheets as being born in SC or NC. I could never reconcile this fact of his birthplace with the fact that Chief George Colbert lived most of his life near Tupelo, MS and Muscle Shoals AL. I always wondered how and if he would have been near SC in/around 1808. I was intrigued to see that you show one of Chief George's sons as William Colbert who was born in SC! This is somewhat encouraging to me because this reinforces my theory about my George Colbert (b. 1809) maybe being a son or nephew of Chief George. I hope that makes sense. If you have any documentation, sources, or proof of William Colbert's birth in SC and his, in fact, being a legitimate son of Chief George, I'd appreciate you sharing it. It could really help me with my George Colbert (b.1809 in SC). Thanks so much, Suzanne |

For several years we received money for being related to Red Eagle, David Tate and others, it is funny to read about these people. I have copies of the paperwork my father filed for that money and several names on this site are listed as family members. I was recently given a copy of a photo of one of the thomas tate tunstalls from back in the 1920 to 40s I think. Anyway thanks great site |

| Comments: | I am the ggggrandaughter of John Semoice, Creek Indian.
I have questions and hope a few more heads can help answer them. Questions: In one of the papers where land grants were rewarded to McGhee and Semoice, it stated that Linn and Semoice were brothers in law. With this information we can assume that either Linn married Semoice’ sister or Semoice married Linn’s sister. With this said, I question all info out there on Semoice’s wife---- 1. Her name being Nancy Pace ????? where did Pace come from, I have not found anything official 2. Nancy being Mushulatubbee’s daughter? ---- Of all his children I have not found a Nancy and they are all name King!!!!! 3. Was she actually a McGhee???? I lean more to this one myself These are questions I have yet to resolve. Also since the Poarch reservation is based on Semoice’s full blood, I am confused. It seems they are only allowing McGhees decendents to enroll????? He was a half-blood, ½ creek and ½ scotch!!!! Can someone answer this. I am for all with creek heritage to be enrolled. Questions Questions Questions and seemingly no answers Does anyone have even a clue????? |

ROSANNA and Richard DEES were married in Jefferson Co., Al in 1843. during this time period, there simply was not a lot of record keeping taken place, and i proably will never be able to come up with all the right information in time. again, thanks for a great beginning, keep it up. jerry |

| Comments: | This is a wonderful website. I am the descendant of John Jacoups and his creek wife. Both were apparently slaves to the Cherokee of Jackson County before removal. Their daughter was left with a white family named Roden. She is listed as their domestic servant in the 1850 census. One of her children was denied any claim to any treaties because the BIA agent said they were born into slavery. They evidently were considered to be just physical property along with the other farm animals. Thankfully times have changed. Anyone with any information on the Jacoups/Jacobs family of Marshall, Etowah, Dekalb, Jackson counties it would be appreciated if you would contact me. Thank you. |

| Comments: | Believe it or not, I accidentally came across the Shomo name on the Alabama Archives site and was very curious about that surname of which his full name was listed as Dr. Joseph Weatherford Shomo. Too, that particular posting was puzzling to me and I was sure there was more to the event which led me to involve myself in further research regarding Dr. Joseph Weatherford Shomo. Thank you for the records on your site. Somehow, and maybe, I will eventually find the answer to the question that brought me to this site. |

| Comments: | My Champion and Shell great-grandparents were supposed to have been part Indian. They came from Jacksonville, Alabama which is right near the dividing line between Cherokee and Creek lands. Great-great-great-grandfather "Buck" Champion bought land from Chief Rabbit for whom Rabbit Town east of Jacksonville was named.
His son "Jake" Champion married secondly to Nancy C. McAlpin whose mother was Manah Matilda, "an Indian princess". The McAlpins were from outside of what is now Tallapoosa, Georgia on the Jacksonville Road. My great-grandmother Mary Elizabeth Shell was said to have been more Indian than her husband Robert Alexander Champion. She was the daughter of William Parks Shell and his second wife N. Melissa Cupp Shell. Wm Parks Shell was said to have been a peace-maker between the Indians and white settlers. There is a story in the Shell family that the first Shell immigrant was an indentured servant in Florida and escaped to the Okeefinokee Swamp and lived with the Indians until he killed a brave fighting over a woman and had to leave. However, all records of William P. Shell have him in Benton County, Alabama in 1850, Hall County, Georgia in 1860, Carroll County, Georgia in 1861, and in Calhoun County, Alabama in 1870 and 1880. He then disappears from records. |

| Comments: | My Grandmother was Nancy Elizabeth Weatherford Clark and she said when she was about 10 years old that was the first time that she had ever seen white men. She was swimming with friends when some loggers came upon them and of course they ran for home. She had olive complexion and very curly white hair. She married James Abner Clark. She said William Weatherford was her grandfather.

I was there from June of 2009 to July of 2009 because of Wind Creek I did not want to leave, I wish there was a Wind Creek in California with no changes everything the same. May God continue to Bless the Creek and Poarch Families. You have a great landmark which will put Atmore, AL on the map. |

| Comments: | Mrs. Middleton,
I have thoroughly enjoyed the material that you have here. My third generation grandmother was half Creek and half Catawba. Her parents were Cherokee slaves according to national archives documents. She was a "domestic servant" for the Roden family of Dekalb County Alabama, which off course implies the obvious. Her parents went West during Indian removal and they never returned for her. We don't know if they died on the way or not. Thank you for web pages. David Wood |

| Comments: | I found your page very helpful. I am following the trail of those old pirates and horsethieves, the pony boys. The Mcgirths and Browns, who started out as tories with the East Fla. rangers and ended up pirating with Wm AUgustus Bowles and later came to settle At Sandtown, Ga. Here they were the most dreadful outlaws until the creek removed from Ga., when they moved to Tuckabachee and other towns. |

| Comments: | I am searching for information on Sarah Sally Stewart born 1810 in Georgia. Sally left Georgia and made her way into Alabama. She had five children: Caroline Hollinger (father : Adam Hollinger) Jackson LaFate Stewart, Piety Stewart,Clemintine Marcella Stewart and James Madison Stewart. All four of Sarah Sally's last children were rumored to be the children of Dick McGhee. There is no proof of this. My cousin and I have been searching for four years for information on Sally. It is rumored that her last name may have been Tunstall rather than Stewart. If anyone has any information on this matter and is willing to share, please email me. I am so frustrated . However, I will continue my search to discover any information I can about her. Thank you. |

| Comments: | Carol Middleton and I corresponded, but I never met the wonderful lady, R.I.P. I descend Mme. Marie Josephine de Juzan Hollinger by Margaret Hollinger who wed Col. Gilbert Christian Russell, Sr., 3rd U.S. Infantry (Russell Co., Ala, named)who's brother-in-law (buried adjoining Maria) was U.S. Senator, Col. George Washington Owen, Mayor of Mobile, who's daughter wed Adm. Raphael Semmes, CSN, of the CSS Alabama. Margaret had Ann Marie Russell who wed Mobile and Galveston cotton broker, Capt. Edward Malone, Sr., CSA, 24th Ala. Inf., earlier a Lt. in brother-in-law Maj. Henry vanBuren's Reo Grande Volunteer Light Artillery. They had Leila Ogden Malone of Mobile who wed Biloxi harbormaster Capt. Harry Copp James. I had Creek Chief Samuel Moniac, Sr's son's memorial stone placed at Bushnel National Cemetery, Florida, near the Battle of Wahoo Swamp battlefield, Second Seminole War. Maj. David Moniac (originally a Lt. 5th U.S. Inf.) of the Alabama Mounted Creeks in U.S. service, was killed leading his troop, over 50 bullets in his human remains. Thanks to his mentor, Col. Russell, David was West Point's first Native American graduate (see West Point and Bushnell websites). The stone's obverse quotes Gen. Jesup that David was "As brave as any man who has drawn a sword and faced the enemy". |

| Comments: | In memory of Carol Middleton, our 9th Native American powwow here in Germany is dedicated. For appreciation to Carol for her helping many of us with our family,s genealogy.
With the help of many other kin folk who worked with her, her project "Among the Creeks" was a masterpiece for those families who lost contact with their Native American Ancestors due to removal years, fear and the genocide against our Native American families that followed. Many of our families and kin folk are still here, at the Poarch Band of Creek Indian Tribe in Alabama, many of the small family clans and Tribes in Florida, Georgia, Texas and the Creek Nation in Oklahoma. She brought the truth to light and the proud and dignity back to our people which was taken by force and that same sickness still exsists today with the rascist and hate groups in the internet that even call themselves ndn when they are not, and they can no longer hurt us with their hate. We are very proud of Carol and all the others that helped her with her life time project. Mvto to all. Rest in peace sister, you will live on in our memories and the bloodlines of our children that was your gift to us. Cehecires, Larry D. Nichols Family Ehlert/Elliott/McIntosh/Ward bloodlines |

| Comments: | Good Morning Carol,
It's great to see someone who is helping research and preserve our tribes heritage. Are you related to or the wife of Coach Melvin Middleton? I myself want to trace my family history as far back as I can. My father was Otis Gibson, GrandFather Elbert Gibson, GrandMother Ida McGhee. I've only recently returned to Poarch in response to the Tribes request that I come and supervise the Tribes interest in the Construction of the new WindCreek casino. My two daughters speak very highly of a Mrs. Middleton that comes to their school (Huxford Elementary) Would you have any ideas on my best course of action to trace my family history. "Clay" Gibson |
