Comments	The Maberly family has a history as interesting as this actress's legacy. It was believed the Maberly family originated in Cornwall, a part of greater Celtic Britain. Kate may be indirectly related to the family Patriarch, John Maberly, who was a member of London's "Upper Class" during the reign of George III. He owned a townhouse in London and "Shirley Manor" in Croydon, Surrey. His fortunes came from a soap works in Aberdeen (Scotland) and was a Tory MP in the House of Commons. Other relatives were Royal officers during the Boer War and one member, an Aglican priest, invented a street cleanser and (Horse and) Carriage Brake (among others). In fact, the Maberly family were well known for their coachworks on Motor Cars in the 20th Century. George, grandson of John, created Thupp & Maberly along with George Thrupp whp built Horse drawn carriages sold from Oxford Street in Victorian England. The company made the transition to motor coaches until the final factory, in Coventry, was closed in 1967. From "Maberly.net:" "that the name evolved from the name Mable or Mabel via Mably or Mabley which are common surnames in Cornwall. There is ample evidence of mutation from Mably or Mabley to Maberly which seems to have occurred when families moved away from Cornwall to live in others parts of southern England. To my mind it does not take too much imagination to accept the idea of the name Mable turning into Mably, especially in an age of undisciplined spelling and general illiteracy. Further transformation into Mabberley or Mabberly can be easily explained by the fact that the name was probably originally pronounced with a short "a" sound." Comments	Yeah, great film, "The Secret Garden". But in the film, when Kate is dressed by the maid (before she discovers the garden) she has a hat, scarf and skipping rope - but no gloves! On a cold day! Where are the gloves - blimey, I live in the country! That's a mistake in the film, surely? What has Kate got against gloves?

If you could, what would you ask Kate?	I'd ask Kate about the different roles she's had; what was the appeal of each one to her, and what her goals in life and career might be.
Comments	While looking at Kate's list of productions she's been in, it amazes me that she really hasn't had what I'd call a leading role in anything since Secret Garden, Friendship's Field, and Langoliers. From there it just seems like she's always in the background, which I don't understand since I think she's very talented and deserves more consideration. Mind you, I haven't seen things I can't get on DVD, such as Mothertime and of course TV shows in Britain, so I have no idea what her roles in those were like. I guess I just look at someone like Emma Watson and the recognition she's received (and I do like her, don't get me wrong), but I think Kate's debut performance in Secret Garden was every bit as good or better than Emma Watson's in the first Harry Potter film, yet most people I talk to have never heard of Kate Maberly. It's just sort of sad, I think.

Comments	My parents have digital cable and they live in Upstate NY. I work in NYC, so I come home every few weeks to visit. This weekend, they have taken to playing The Secret Garden on one of the HBO's, and I was very quickly transported back to being 12 years old(02/19/81) when the movie was released in 1993. Just as before, I was transfixed by the movie, and more in particular, the talent of the young actors in the movie. My mom happened to come in the room and go, "What happened to the girl who played Mary?" That's why I am here! I watched the movie 2 more times yesterday and wished that I could see Kate Maberly in more movies presently. She has such beautiful eyes that Hollywood would only be too lucky to have. I wish she would act more, but I guess she is just being a normal 21 year-old... college, then a job. We can't blame her for that. Thanks a lot!!!

Reported by New Scientist, the research included interviews of 600 people. They were asked about their personalities and interest in celebrities. Until now, says a report by Agence France-Presse, the conventional view was that obsessive celebrity worship was limited to a tiny fraction of the population. The study, however, found there is a "sliding scale" between those who follow stars for fun and those who are seriously pathological. Psychologists Lynn McCutcheon of DeVry University in Florida and James Houran of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine conducted the research. Respondents' level of star-struckness was measured by their reaction to statements such as "I am obsessed by details of my favorite celebrity's life," "I consider my favorite celebrity to be my soul mate," and "If he/she asked me to do something illegal as a favor, I would probably do it," AFP reported. Fans of celebrities are significantly likelier to suffer from anxiety, depression and social dysfunction than non-worshippers, the study found. While 20 percent of respondents had what the researchers considered "entertainment-social" reasons for following their favorite star, another 10 percent had developed an "intense-personal" attitude toward a celebrity. And 1 percent were labeled "borderline-pathological" � those who might stalk celebrities or hurt themselves in the name of their idol. "Just worshipping a celebrity does not make you dysfunctional," New Scientist quoted Houran as saying. "But it does put you at risk of being so. "There is this progression of behaviors, and if you start, we don't know what's going to stop you." According to the study, celebrity worship can develop into an obsession during difficulty times in one's life, such as the loss of a loved one. "As with many other patterns of behavior, such as eating and drinking, moderation is the key: It is over-indulgence that can present problems," wrote researcher John Maltby in the London Guardian. Maltby helped the two psychologists with the study.

Personally I like salmon slowed cooked in a little olive oil, seasoned with a dash of garlic, and dill weed. A small salad on the side with blue cheese dressing, and little white wine, and for dessert; chocolate covered strawberries to share. Comments	sorry, you wont find an obsessive fan here if you check your sites humor. but i did enjoy the secret garden. i musta watch it 10,000 times when i was younger. seeing your face in your younger pictures, -there so familiar, it brings to me a sence of ease like a stress remedy. but its funny because when i look at your later pitures on the site i get almost mad. how i never got to see you from Then to now. your still beautiful. i figured back then we were the same age. in 93, at a florida fleamarket i saw you for the first time at the movies, we would always talk about who you would become when you got older. and here, the times have taken to so harshly to many of us. its seems even you they've taken away. for i look to you with curiosity in place of a person i adore.
