Comments:My name is Linda and I live across the Kanawha River...from Nitro! haha! I enjoyed your story about visiting W V, thoroughly! I am glad you enjoyed our territory but sorry you had to start in Nitro. I, myself, have dealt with the Volkswagon repair shop you were semi-fortunate to break-down in the vicinity of. I drove an 86' Cabriolet convertible. I LOVED THAT LITTLE CAR! I lost it in 04' due to being rearended by a full size truck on my way home from work, the night before Thanksgiving. I am glad you met some of our more friendly folks around the area. You were in the city of Sissonville and I believe I know the "Jay" you are referring to. I worked with his mother at the Sheriff's office. I am glad you made it to your destination safely and in your VW! If you are ever in the area again...shoot me an email and I promise you will have a place to stay...if Sugar Creek is "over-booked!" Thank you again for the story, it's great! I'll pass it forward, have a great day!

I thought about you last night since an acquaintance of mine, here in Marmaris, is to visit Rhode Island in July or August. I told him if he was in mind for a boat, to stop in Anchor Yachts. Not remembering where the brokerage is exactly, I am perusing your website. So much for background. You are in Cartegena according to the latest log/blog. Great! Comments:Hey Tor,

Enjoyed reading your logblog. I have a float plan nearly every year, and this year I don't so it was nice to get a taste of sailing in my veins by reading your site.

I am from the center of NC (Winston-Salem), and way too far from water. I go to Wilmington or the Beaufort area any chance I can get just to gaze at marinas.

I used to go every 3 day weekend down to Oriental to charter a boat for the weekend. Then our group started chartering in the VI's. I've been there about 7 times. I've been to St. Barths & St. Martin 2 or 3 times. Went to the St. Lucia and Martinique (really want to return there sometime...didn't get to see nearly enough, and only discovered "Jump Up" in Gros Islet on the Friday night before our return...My friends had to come find me, as I was immersed in a "conversation" with a young French couple who did not speak English. Funny what you can remember when you have to! Been also to Mayreaux, Union Island, Palm Island, Bequia, Mustique, and the gorgeous Tobago Cays. What fun!

My most recent trip was last April. I was First Mate on 46 foot Benneteau in the Abacos, Bahamas. Our dinghy motor jumped ship the second day out though, and we never were able to get it to start again, so we were somewhat handicapped....wouldn't mind going back there either.

The trip before that I had been to St. Thomas to take ASA 101, 103 and 104 courses. I passed. Two of the other 3 did NOT pass. It was a grueling week, with only one "fun" night, of which I dearly paid....Overdid it at the Willy T, then had to take a test on diesel engines early the next morning. I just wanted to DIE! But somehow I even passed then too.

I play a little guitar too. Or, used to, but most recently been learning how to play drums, just to keep my mind in top shape.

Anyway, thanks for letting me live vicariously through your travel blog. Well written!

Jayne

"Hankster/Rank Hank" - is a childhood friend that tagged along with me sailing when I was in the mood for good laughs. Anyway, I visited your site to see if a tiller head was photographed aboard a 37 Crealock. My refit project is an 88' being completely rebuilt in Washington, NC at PSC LTD. We are way past the tiller head (converted to tiller from wheel - I can't seem to figure out a wheel) conversion. Your site is very good and I plan on reading some of your writings along with obtaining a CD from your 60's band. Good luck with your new adventures.

Comments:Came across your site by accident, but stayed to enjoy some of the stories. I don't know a sloop from a ketch, but have always found myself fascinated by the sea and adventures of the sea. It probably started way back in grade school with readings of Melville's Moby-Dick, Billy Budd, and others. When I read about adventures like yours it brings back fond memories of dreams that were, but realities that will never be. Reading your story about the entry into Bimini Bay, without motor auxiliary, reminded me a lot of Kurt Russell's character in the movie "Captain Ron." You are of course a lot better sailor, or at least more responsible, than was Captain Ron, but I'll bet it's not the first time some comparison was made.

Thanks. May the wind be at your back and the sun shine upon your face.

Maybe we will see you out there some time. We spent 6 years living aboard and getting her ready for the trip. She really is a good ol' ship and she'll make the trip.

By the way, Georgian Bay (Christian Island area) is spectacular cruising. Not as warm as the Bahamas, but beautiful.

Named my second son Tristan after a one legged sailor with a three legged dog. Both of my boys are musicians, have bands, play sometimes in the city. I have a 1987 Beneteau First 305 on Lake Champlain and am beginning to discover the joy of repair and reconsruction-who says that sailing is the fun part! Nice to see what you have done. Love hiking on the west coast-Cascades and Olympics, but did you ever get to the ADKs? Something special there!

Good sailing-if you need a hand on any passage and you don't mind a happy older woman, get in touch.

This is a terrific site you’ve developed…I’ve reviewed your updates. Last summer I crewed on a 424, from RI to Northern ME and back to LI…was the first time I sailed a Pearson 424 ketch (Thalassa) and was very much impressed with balance and seaworthiness....is a terrific boat. I’d fly down to FL to help out this summer except skipper welcomed me back....and of course I said “YES”. Will leave LI end of May - 1st of June for Chesapeake then turn around and head back to ME.

I’ll be following your site....perhaps I could join up with your boat sometime in the fall, ’08.
