I am just trying to get in contact with any members of the Llandovery Rotary Club who may remember me. I was an exchange student with the club in 1998 from Australia. I have just completed my pharamcy degree and I am now a registered pharmacist. After 5 years of hard study I decided I need a holiday and I am coming back to Llandovery in April 2006, it would be lovely to catch up with as many of you as possible, anyway you can contact me at my email address.
hope to be seeing you soon.

I found the information I required but was disappointed that the District Community service section was not more up to date. As a Club it is helpful to know the District Chairman's ideas for the new Rotary year, especially as we are unable to attend District Assembly due to distance to travel.

I just attended my District Zone's Rotary Leadership training today (Part 1) and was really pleased to hear of Rotary e-club's and the ability to make up for club meetings missed through this medium. As this will not take the place of regular meetings it is a means of keeping abreast with Rotary activities. First Responder Schemes are an additional valuable resource which enable people to learn the skills necessary to begin life-saving treatment before an ambulance arrives.
Every second counts when you are trying to save someone’s life and these schemes are hugely beneficial in assisting the ambulance service to provide the best possible pre-hospital care for patients. The dedication and enthusiasm shown by the volunteers and supporters of these schemes has been fantastic.

I was born and schooled in Risca (now a part of the Caerphilly Council area) and will probably be making up at a few Welsh clubs next year. The chairman of our club's International Committee has charged me with the task of finding the Rotary Grace and the Rotary Four-way Test in Welsh so I am appealing for help in this since my Welsh was very much a junior school subject some sixty years ago. So if there is anyone out there who can help me, please e-mail me on the address above.

Thanks and for now cheers and very best wishes for the centennial year.

Comments:Where is Rotary in Pakistan?

Over 1.2 million members make Rotary big.
Diversity makes Rotary great.
As we prepare to celebrate Rotary centennial we need to build a network of Rotarians.
But is the search for new members producing results?
Are we going in the right direction?
Where is Rotary going in pakistan?
George Bernard Shaw, the famous writer when reportedly asked the question “Where is Rotary going?” is said to have replied “to lunch”. This is now part of the folklore of Rotary.

PRIP Rtn Robert R Barth (1993-94) said, “There are two kinds of people in Rotary clubs around the world. The first kind of person attends meetings, pays dues, listens to the programs, gives money to special projects and then forgets about Rotary. The second kind attends meetings, pays dues and additionally has an attitude of always being open to the possibilities of what he or she can do for someone else. The second kind of person lives Rotary every day”.

Where is Rotary in Pakistan going? What type of persons are members in Rotary? If Rotary should grow it requires more and more of the second kind. The first type will leave Rotary very soon. With about 1.22 million members in 31,561 clubs spread over 166 countries Rotary’s membership growth is far from satisfactory.

Members may come and members may go, but Rotary is here to stay, say some enthusiasts. Fine. But how many members have been in Rotary for any length of time? How many have left within the first, second and the third year of joining?

If Rotary is to take up the challenge of eradicating Polio, if Rotary is required to fight poverty and disease, if Rotary is committed to improving the living conditions of people around the world, if Rotary is required to provide opportunities to the new generation, it needs members. It needs members who are committed to the ideal of service. That is why PRIP Rtn Carlo Ravizza (1999-2000) said, “We have to strive for a quantity of quality”.

Remembering the Member

Rotary’s objective is to reach new members and keep them involved. This translates to recruitment, integration and retention. The goal is to identify potential individuals who can contribute to the work of the organization, invite them to participate by clearly identifying the benefit of joining, make them feel welcome and give them a way to contribute that is appropriate for them and offer ongoing opportunities for growth to keep them motivated and interested. Rotary is coping with the challenge of attracting and involving new members especially from the younger generation.

The single significant reason why the attrition rate is high seems to be that members don’t seem to understand what to do in the organization. The drop out rate shows that people did not grasp the concept of Rotary and the people who brought them in didn’t explain the Rotary basics before they inducted them in the club. You can’t communicate with potential members and try to get them to ‘buy’ a membership. People join an organization by imagining how that will make them feel. If a new member achieves the goal through Rotary’s service then they are certain to share their success with friends. Eventually, the friend becomes a referral. Clubs increase the greatest amount of new members through existing ones.

“Everybody deserves a chance for a new start in life !”

The Chonburi Women’s Prison, in Chonburi Province Thailand, has undergone many positive changes under the leadership of Warden Khun Sudsaward.
Her idea is to provide as much education to the female inmates as possible to give them a fair chance to function in society when they are released from their prison term.
Warden Khun Sudsaward have organized a bakery school, a hair dressing school, a dress making school, a music school, a cooking school, a language school, a handicraft school and other educational training.

But all these educational activities is only possible with the help of organizations like Rotary, since the prison do not have a budget for such activities.

The Rotary Club of Pattaya is organizing a matching grant project providing computers and computer equipment to the Chonburi Women’s Prison to set up a Computer School for the female inmates in the prison. Volunteers will do the teaching as soon as the equipment is provided.

The plan is to provide computers and computer equipment for an amount of 12,000 US $.

The Rotary Club of Pattaya welcomes Rotary Clubs in other countries to help us organize this Matching Grant project.

Please contact International Service Chairman, Past President Niels Colov for further information.
