My husband Mark received "the call" 3 weeks ago. He was in hospital for 2 weeks and then attended a couple of clinics but has been kept in due to increased levels of creatinine so it was refreshing to read about the problems you had as at the time you think you are the only people in the world with creatinine problems. You see people in the clinic do their blood samples and go home when you are being kept in. Would love to hear from others who are in the same boat. Thank you |

| Comments: | Dear Claire; I am so thankful you are doing well. I know what an ordeal you have been through for you see, I too had a kidney transplant in July, 2005. I only had one kidney and it was failing. I was told I had to go on dialysis until I found a donor. I refused to go on dialysis so I immediately started a campaign to find a donor. Both of my sisters were tested and they were a match but neither of their kidneys were up to par so they wouldn't take theirs. My son-in-law then stepped up and said he would be tested. Believe it or not, he was a good match so the surgery took place at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. As did yours, the kidney started working immediately and has worked perfectly ever since. I have had no problems at all since then. My lab tests this past week were still good so I am looking forward to a long life with the help of our Lord. I pray much health and happiness to you and your Mum. She is a special lady. |

I was married in 6/91 to Elaine (renal/oncology RN). We now have SIX children (ages 4 - 14). I have a BA and MAA. I have held executive positions. I have been a domestid engineer since 8/02. My kidney disease came back and I was back on CAPD in 8/03. I did CAPD again until 6/04 when my sister, Rita gave me the gift of life. My license plates read...IP4PAUL and IP4RITA (HA, HA). hi there... i was able to open your site by searching...am so thankful that i read your story and life experiences..i salute you for being so strong and so positive despite the serious ailment you have. anyway, you have a similar case with my sister melody, 24 years old now who underwent a kidney transplant operation too last february 10, 2000, with my father as the donor. We are thankful that my sister lives and enjoy things with us...But unfortunately, she is now confined again and diagnosed of kidney rejection. She is undergoing a hemodialysis now, preparing for the 2nd transplant operation. we are financially hard up knowing that this illness needs financial assistance to support the medication.We are looking for a donor, sad to say that only my father is her perfect match who already donated his kidney in the first operation. We are 8 children and only two of us are working(siblings). Both parents are unemployed.. and with the expenses we have, i do not know where to find resources..Thank God he sends many instruments for us to make both ends meet... as of the moment i am searching web sites, who knows one of these will be an answer to our prayers. my sister as of now is in the ICU.. am praying that she'll survive.. we go back to the hospital three times already since last week of february of this year. Last week she is admitted again because of pain, and worse, she was hallucinating for 48 hours...she did not sleep and always talked. But thank God she is ok now after injecting a tranquilizer to her.. thank you very much, your story enlightens me...how i wish my sister could open and read your site...til next.. God bless! |

Thank you for sharing your wonderful story! I loved seeing your smiling face with such radience about your 2nd chance! My husband had a kidney-pancreas transplant almost 5 years ago. However he has lost that smile and is struggling with depression, a sleep disorder and something to do with misfiring neurotransmitters of the brain. He was fortunate to be able to go back to his regular employment 6 moths post surgery but these recent complications make it very difficult for him. I am concerned his complications are caused from the immunosuppressants. He is on low dosages of Prograf,Prednisone & Imuran. | Comments: | My daughter has been on heamodiaylsis now for 3 yrs. Her name is Heather. She has been sick for 4 yrs. Heather is going to have a birthday June 10th. She will turn 27. She has a beautiful daughter named Samantha that will be 11 years old the 20th of this month. Heather has been in and out of the hospital since she first went into renal failure due to strip throat in 1999. Her last surgery was about three weeks ago. She had to undergo parathyroid surgery because they were abnormal. Last year it was a hysterectomy. The year before they took out her tonsuils and had her pull six teeth. All of this they said was needed to help keep the chance of infection down to a min. preparing for the big event of tansplant. I so wanted to give her my kidney when she first took ill but I am AB pos. and she is A pos. A posible donor has just been found last week. One of Heathers friends has crossed matched 100%! This is great news because her antibodies are high due to blood transfusions she had received duing her sickness. Her friend is going to Dallas, Texas the middle of this month for a two day stay to make sure she is healthy enough to go through the surgery. Heather has gone through so much! We hope and pray the transplant works! I am always researching her disease trying to understand what she is going through and what she will go through when I came upon your sight. You are truley a remarkable young woman!! I shed tears of mixed emotions reading about you and others that signed your dreambook. I am joyful that you are doing so well!! Please update me on your progress to date. I am also fearful of what my daughter is going through! When I read about heartattacks or having to go through more than one kidney transplant, my heart hurts for her. I try and turn it over to God and not take it back but it's hard! I had my kidney transplant from my stepbrother in April, 1993, shortly after I was married. I'd been on CAPD only a couple of months, and it didn't work very well for me. I met my wonderful husband through my kidney failure: he was being assessed to give a kdiney to his sister as I was being assessed for a Tx. Kidney failure might have ruined my career, but it gave mew a wonderful new life. Jerry's sister was a great inspiration to me. Her kidney has since failed and after a few years on Haemodialysis, she died of massive heart failure, leaving 3 children and a husband. I enjoy looking after her children whenever I can. I'm still hanging in there with my brother's kidney, which continues to function after 10 years. I had hoped the transplant would enable me to have children, but that didn't work out. Something always happened and I got sick. Now I'm 47 and beyond it. However I have two delightful stepsons to keep me busy, and I hope to be a Grandma one day. I find the best way to say thank you for my new life is to take good care of myself and my kidney, and to promote Organ Donor Awareness through talks to various groups and by distributing sign-up cards for our Provincial Organ Donor Registry we have here in British Columbia. When the doctors did a heart cath, the dye they used put the whammy on my kidneys and 4 months later I was on dialysis. I am currently waiting for a kidney transplant. I am married to a now retired police officer. I have a stepson and a daughter & 5 grandkids. I only work a little now ; being with my family is more important than a career. My kidneys failed after the birth of my 3rd son last March 2001. I did hemo for 5bmonths (YUCK)and when my kidneys did not comeback, I started CAPD which is so much better than hemo!!!!I do have my challenges- taking care of my three boys ages 5,4, and 1 AND doing all of my exchanges everyday, but I have faith that I will see them grow up with a new kidney from a friend, family member, or complete stranger. I am now 29 years. september 13 2000 my mom had donated her kidney to me. but 4 days later it had to be taken out,due to internal bleeding ect. I had 4 surgery's in 6 days. Now 1 year later I'm on peritoneal dialysis. But my great news is that my aunt is currently being tested and as of now everything is a go. Hopefully it works out and maybe by christmas I will have my new kidney.
