Im only 34 yrs old but all of us in the family (mom, aunts, cousins, etc) want to know where we come from, our ancestors, but the elder people in the family dont have much information though, in fact they know very very little, not enough, so we need some help from other people that might know. The only thing we know is that Franceschi come from Corsica and in our family case, we came from Franceschis´s established in David, Panama either from a man named Cruciano or Angelo. From either one my family come from, but that is all we know. We would like to know exactly from which one we come from and also we want to find our link in Italy.

| Comments: | Hello family, I must say that I'm amazed on how large is this family, whether Italian, Spanish, American, French,etc...is a name to be proud of. It holds a long history of love and joy, with many sacrifices and tears but all well worth it.
My name is Luis Franceschi, borned in a small town named Tallaboa Encarnacion Penuelas P.R..My greatgrand father was Carlos Franceschi. His children are, my grandfather Don Julio Franceschi Gonzalez whose brothers were; Tio Franco(Francisco), Tio Nito, Tio Lito, Tio Ismael. My father, Luis Franceschi Cordero, still lives in Tallaboa Encarnacion and is still running his small buisness selling fish and tackle from diving equipment to fishing items. I visit him once a year but he is getting old so if anyone wants to see him and learn a little about the history of us you are more than welcome. I was raised there until my 18th birthday when I joined the Navy and was stationed at Jacksonville Florida in 1976,where I married and had 2 boys, Luis and Eduardo. For many years I was told by my anscestors that our family were Corcicans, so I sent for the book of geneology and found that no matter how you look at it we originated in Italy. As a matter of fact, the first Franceschi records were in Mobile, Alabama in 1846. This, must have happened when there was traveling through the Spanish era. My "conclusion" is that some might have migrated to Puerto Rico or returned there, but still are in someway relatives. I have 5 brothers and 1 sister; Julio Juan, Noel Luis, Leonel Luis, Geraldo Luis, Luigi Luis and Gelinoris my sister. My father is the only male of my grandfather but has 3 sisters; Ana Julia, Isabel and Titi Quitina. I guess it's a lot to read but I just want to give my part of this long and ongoing family tree. Minha família partiu de Castelgomberto em 1895 para o Sul do Brasil, Vieram 4 irmãos: Massimiliano, Antonio Giuseppe, Giovani e Francesco, com os pais Antonio De Franceschi e Maddalena Calabria, Antonio era filho de Francesco De Franceschi e Margaritha Mattiello. Há nessa cidade italiana muitos De Franceschi. Em poder da Casa Canonica da Igreja Pietro e Paolo existe documentos das demais famílias De Franceschi que partiram após a guerra da Unificação. Espero ansiosamente encontrar outras famílias que tenham estes dados do passado, pois assim poderemos estabelecer os laços com outros De Franceschi no mundo. Sei que um irmão de Antonio partiu para os Estados Unidos. E por onde andarão seus descendentes. Não consegui apurar o nome de seus irmãos, mas com certeza eram mais de um. | Comments: | To Paul FRANCESCHI in Austin. The surname FRANCESCHI evolved from the first name of Francescho in Corsica. Francescho in the Tuscan or Genovan dialect translates to Francois in french. Before 1500, there were no last names in Corsica. People were Francesco de Botticella, or Antonio de Morsiglia, or Barthelemy de Poggio. The second name was the village where they lived. Sometime in the 1500's - 1600's, the Catholic Church made all babies have last names when they were baptised. So, the surname FRANCESCHI, was given to the first child of Francescho. | Comments: | Well, when I wanted to put up a site for FRANCESCHI ADVERTISING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS, based in Tallahassee, Florida for the past 32 years, imagine my surprise when I saw you, Tom, had one up first. Well, I'm from the Pittsburgh, PA area and I did not see any of my relatives who logged onto the site, so I thought I would bring you up to date on the premier East Coast Franceschi family. Unfortunately, most of the original family are gone now, but the cousins remain. My grandparents came from north of Florence, around 1900. Grandfather Milano Franceschi and Grandmother Angelina made the trip which ended up in a site called Seldom Seen, PA - which is a very small town, and one the quickly left for southeastern PA, at places called Belle Vernon. Bottom line: My father, Oscar, first born, moved to Pittsburgh PA in 1940, opened a bakery, and our line of the Franceschi family lived there until 1952, when we moved to Miami. My deceased grandfather was Dr. Francisco Franceschi Caballero, he was born in Manati, PR & got married to Ana Laura Franceschi Del Manzano. They had 4 children: Pedro -AKA Peyo, Solania, Francisco AKA Puchino, & Juan; my dad. My grandfather had a bet w/ a couple of his friends that he can sail to Spain, So my grandfather was going to sail w/ a friend. His friend backed out and so did the other ones. But as a Franceschi -they keep their word. So my grandfather sailed w/ someone else but they first stoped at New York. While at NY someone hid in the ship, My grandpa was in his cabin; shaving while he heard "Me van a matar, me va a matar-The're going to kill me, they're going to kill me." My grandpa went out on the deck w/ a gun and saw that the person he was sailing w/ was going to kill the other person, so grandpa shot him & fell over board. When he got to Spain he told authorities and they put him in jail and a couple days latter the body surfaced in the shores of Spain. My dad told me that he thinks that the Government of PR contact the gov of Spain and they set my grandfather free after a year. He came back to PR by himself during his trip back he was in a couple of storms and tied himself on the main pole of the boat. When reaching PR his boat sank. Someone found it & fixed it up and put it in a museum. The boat was named "Mary". Puerto Ricans made a ballad about him & went something like this " Borinquen tiene un heroe nacional, Dr. Franceschi lo supo conquistar.Cruso el Atlantico, desafiando el mar. Y fue valiente como Lindberg y otros mas" How about that?!! I have been told that my family comes from Corsica from Italy but now property by France. Dr. Francisco Franceschi also lived near El Yunque, a Rainforest in PR, He also owned a water Comp. I think it was called Crystal del Yunque. He owned an island as well. All my aunt and uncles are married: Puchino is a minister in Pensylvania has 4 children 2 who live in FL all are married & have children except 1 of them who lives in FL (single). Solania Casellas, lives in PR has 4 children as well, all married w/children,1 lives in Miami FL. Peyo lives in PR has 4 children , 2 are married w/ children & 1 is engaged, and my father Juan in FL has 3 children, 2 are married, 1 has just had a child, and none of the 2 is me. I am married to Kathleen and have a daughter Julianne, son Mark and another son Anthony. My father Erasmo was one of 10 Franceschi brothers(8) and sisters(2) also from Lucca. I have cousins here in Califoria, Lucca, Italy, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. My father did some research on the family name some years ago and found that the Franceschi name originates in the former Yugoslavia. One of the most fun Franceschi discoveries I have ever made was in Santa Barbara, I discovered Franceschi Rd. and Franceschi Park( I took pictures of both) Please put me on any e-mail list you may have with regards to information regarding the Franceschi name.
