| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | Hello,
We adopted a black lab mix a year ago from the Champaign Humane Society. Moose is a beloved member of our family. He is such a wonderful friend and companion. All he asks for is love (and a treat every now and then). He and our other dog have become very close. Thank you to all the volunteers at the Humane Society without you we wouldn't have this wonderful dog who we all love and cherish. I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a friend to adopt! These animals need our help and they give so in return. Sincerely, Beth Conran |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | We adopted Gunner on 3-14-08 and have since learned he is the best dog I could have dreamed of. He is quiet and gentle and loves the belly scratches. He loves to go "Bye-Bye in the car" with either of us, and lives for the leash and the walks around our subdivision or in the woods where the smells are phenomenal!. After searching the local websites for 3 months for specifically an adult yellow lab, medium size, house broken, tolerates cats, would let me play in his furr while I read or watched TV, and wants to be a loving pal to an old married couple, I would have never dreamed we'd find him practically in our own backyard. It took us approximately 1 week to be totally and completely adjusted to each other and in love. What a pooch. He has my heart completely and I am unbelievably happy with our adoption from CCHS. Thanks!
If you get in another well behaved identical twin to Gunner for some ridiculous reason like "allergies" please give us a call. I have a friend that will take that dog in a heartbeat. |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | We adopted our dog Mina from the humane society in 1993; she is a black lab mix and her name was Onyx at the time of the adoption. We have had her now for 15 years and wanted to thank the humane society for matching us with our wonderful dog. It is so rare that a large breed like a lab can make it over 15 years of age; we have been very lucky! Her time with us is nearing the end now as she needs help getting off of the couch and is losing her control of bowel/bladder, so we are taking the time to enjoy every last minute we have with her. But we also wanted to thank you for rescuing her in the first place when she was little. She has been a wonderful part of our family. We are proud to help support the great work you do and will be sending a donation in her name after she passes. With sincerest gratitude,
Jennifer, Bill, Nolan, and Connor Burdett for Mina (Onyx) Burdett |

Your staff was very sympathetic and kind.We brought home Dustie (CoCo). She is a lab/chow mix that had been at the shelter TWICE! She is sooo full of love, kisses, and energy!! She is one of the sweetest animals I have ever known! You can't help but love her big brown eyes and she is just a big part of our family. Thank you-thank you-thank you!!p.s. her biggest fault is that she is a big ole BED HOG!!!
I want to commend the work done by the entire staff at CCHS. All your hard work and devotion to animals does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | Dear Staff,
I recently came to the shelter to adopt Puff, who has been working out the kinks of the "pecking" order since we got him. He truly is a lovey and affectionate kitty. All is fabulous here, he has conquered and mastered being around our Bailey Goat, I believe that they will be fast friends. I feel like there is a part of Jerry, his previous owner with us everytime I pet him. He has such a grand purr, very loud and I would like to think that is another part of Jerry coming out, happy to be "home" and be able to roam the house, checking out new territory to see. Thank you very much for allowing us the opportunity to adopt another cat from you shelter. Sebastian was hard going at first, but soon he was in the groove of our home and was just happy to have a window/door to stare out of. Now our 22 yr old has moved back home and she has claimed Sebastian as "HER" kitty. I believe that Puff will be moving up into the masters' lap (ie) Hubby. He has enjoyed petting and brushing all of the loose hair, not that Puff has enjoyed it.....more like ran the other way. Laura Burnam |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | Hello-I was recently adopted last Sunday by two very nice people and I wanted to tell you about my new home. They took me to a nice store and bought me a nice big crate and a cool harness to go on walks with and then we went to my new home. I really like my new home, it has a nice fenced in backyard and I can smell all kinds of new things-my doggy neighbors and squirrels and bunnies! All my doggy neighbors came over to see me and they really like me. It is so nice to stay inside, I can play with the stupid cat and I have a bunch of new toys and best of all I can sleep in my owners bed ( and on the sofa when my mom is gone!!). I have learned to even go up and down the stairs by myself (but dad is always close by) and with the lights on I can move around my new house with ease. I'm still working on my potty training but I'm doing quite well for an outside doggy.
I wanted to tell that nice lady who took great care of at the shelter and who saw me leave Sunday thanks for all the love and I will miss you very much too. My new owners keep saying I'm spoiled rotten already, I don't know what that means but I sure do like it! Well-time to play some more!-Falcor (Peanut) Steve & Lori Gates |

Tig who I adopted in Nov. or Dec. 06, gives "kitty kisses" and will sit on your lap for hours! He has the tiniest mew and he is our "special needs" kitty as I found out he was born without hip sockets and therefore cannot jump up on furniture. TJ who I adopted several years ago, sleeps with me and is our constant "purr kitty". His unique coloring (silver, grey, black, white)is was what drew me to him. I am an animal lover(I have 2 dogs and 4 cats) and hope that when I retire from teaching that I can either work for a shelter or start one of my own! |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | I adopted a beautiful 8 week old black lab/german shepherd puppy from CCHS back in 1995. At the time I was starting my junior year at U of I and really wanted to share my life with another dog. I went and visited with a few puppies and missed out on one that I really liked. By chance I went back the next day and there was Onyx with his brother and sister. His sibilngs were already being held for adoption and Onyx was so playful and sweet. I decided to adopt Onyx right after our private visit. For the next 12 years, he was with me everywhere I went. We travelled from Champaign, to San Diego, to Chicago, to LA, and finally back to Chicago. He was hands down the best and smartest dog that I have ever had. His friendship and loyalty was immeasurable. Sadly, our journey together ended yesterday as I had to let him take his final nap. Unfortunately, my Onyx was battling a very aggressive cancer and he fought like a trooper for months. It was by far the hardest decision to make, but in order to let him go when he was still happy and aware of the love I feel for him was the right thing to do. I will miss him forever and I will always remember carrying him out of the CCHS to my car. Thanks CCHS for taking in this precious puppy at the time you did. I can't imagine the past 12 years without Onyx by my side. Rest In Peace Onyx (6/95-7/07). |

She is now 2 years old and my husband and I agree that she is probably one of the most intelligent and loving dogs we have ever had. Her name is Sammie and I have loved her from the first time I held her there at the humane society.
We have taught her several tricks and she has impressed most of our fiends by how loving and fun she really is! She is also a very good watch dog as she foiled an attempted robbery at our home a few months ago. My husband and I look forward to a long life with Sammie! |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | Last spring we adopted Sammie, a golden retriever/great pyrenese mix. Things were a bit shaky at first and we were'nt sure if we made the right choice. Sammie cowered around men and generally appeared unhappy. Then came the bout with kennel cough. Soon though he became a big part of our family. He was the sweetest, gentlist, happy dog. People in our neighborhood knew his name as he "pranced" down the street with me on his evening walks. We recently lost Sam. It broke our hearts as we watched his spirit fade a little more each day. He had numerous grand mal seizures, lost most of his vision, but continued to wag his tail at our voices and our touch. Finally the medication wasn't enough anymore and we're still not sure what happened and probably don't want to know, but he got very sick, and his quality of life was no more. We love him and miss him very much. We wouldn't want to have missed a single minute with our Sammie. He will always be in our hearts. Thank you for bringing him and his love to our hearts, home, and family. We are grateful that we could bring some happiness and comfort to a wonderful soul if only for a brief time. |

They are older (6 & 8 now) so are very, very loving. I urge everyone to consider the older pets. They have so much love to give us, and they will thrive on our love.
My heart goes out to all the people who lost their pets because of the tainted food disaster. So glad I started mine on dry food, although I will be vigilant from now on because it could happen to the kibble food too. |

I am a new dog Mommie and have many, many questions about the proper way to raise him. Your site has been exactly what I need for my new puppy and myself. Intially I was looking for information on proper crating of my puppy but I had my questions about chewing and introducing my older cats to my new puppy answered thanks to articles on your site. The articles are specific in it's information with tips and timelines which this new owner really appreciates. An example: a few minutes to me aren't the same to a puppy I've learned; 5 to 10 minutes is more descriptive and helps me understand what is approipate for both of us. I have saved your site as a favorite and will reference back to it as needed in up coming years. Thank you from myself, Cody (the new pup), Boobah and Missy (the feline kids of the house). |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | In March I adopted a 4 year old cat named Herman. IT was hard choosing out one cat, but it had to be done. Hermann (We changed the spelling) is a very laid-back sort of cat. He really makes my grand-daughter, my wife, and me laugh when he wants a drink out of the bathtub. He won't drink out of his water dish, only out of the tub or sink. He is quite playful and for Christmas I bought him some catnip toys and some balls to play with. He loved them. When I came home from work yesterday he had draged 4 catnip toys and some other toys out from the sunroom (where he spends most of his time) all the way to the guest bedroom. I and so blessed to have Hermann. Thank you very much. We will send some pictures to the CCHS soon! |

He is only 4, but acts like a kitten. He is a long-haired, grey and white, and loveable. We built a sunroom and that is where he stays most of the time. It was hard picking out one cat, I wanted to take them all! But when I saw Hermann, I knew he would be a great cat. I have elderly neighbors, and when I take Hermann over to see them, they just love that. I also take Hermann to the nursing home and let the people down there pet him. He has gain a couple of pounds (3 lbs.) but I rather him be the way he is than skinny. When I adopted him, the lady said he likes Doritos, and he does! He also like cheese. Whenever I sew, he has to be watching me. Right now he is sitting by me, watching me type. I am sure he would say hi, so HI. I just wanted to let CUHS know that I thank them deeply for letting me get a cat. He is a great cat, and I hope to bring him in to let everyone at CUHS see him. |

To think that we almost did not get him because he was 9 mths. old. He is part Rott and we think part Lab (and so does the vet). We are looking for another dog like him. If you have another dog of that size and a great temperment like his, we would be very interested in adopting him. He would have to be an indoor dog. Jake plays outside a lot, but sleeps with us at night, and plays inside with us, too. We also have 4 cats that are indoors only. I teach full time and work at Samuel Music on Tuesdays from 4-7PM. If you email me at Samuel Music, you must put a header, or the company will not let it go thru. If you have a dog that would do well for us, please call or email me ASAP. My phone is 217-493-6486. I send greetings, browsing through the alumni page, I noticed my daddy has already given you guys an update. I came browsing for a new friend that I can talk my daddy into adopting. Life is pretty good, I have a choice of four beds, although I find sleeping with daddy is much more comfortable. My favorite things to do is eat homemade treats, go play with my dog friends in the morning, and then take daddy for a long run when he gets back from work. I need to get him in better shape. Thanks again for giving me a second chance and helping me find a new home although living with two other cats isn't always the most fun. I am coming back with daddy for graduation in a couple of weeks to see mommy graduate from Animal Doctor School and see Daddy give mommy a new shiny ring. I hope daddy gets me one too. | Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | Our brown-tabby Felix adopted us last August. I had been longing for some feline companionship as I had grown up with cats in the house. As we looked through the kitty rooms at CCHS, Felix caught our eye. His cage card read that he was an "independent kitty", and they could not have been more right! He is very vocal and will always let you know when he wants attention, or food! However he is also the most affectionate cat I have ever known, as he is always jumping in my lap to give me kisses and purr. He is going on 9 years old already, but he still has so many kitten tendencies that it is hard to tell he's a "senior". Felix is definitly my baby, and I wanted to thank you all for taking good care of him while he was looking for us! |

I pray i can find the right pet for myself. it really gets lonely without the both of them. |

He is the best puppy ever! He has been extremely easy to potty train, and him and my 2 other dogs are buddies now! He has his own bed time spot, on my husbands pillow. The staff there is awesome, especially the girl that helped with our adoption. Thanks for everything, we will post pictures soon. |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | I have adopted two cats from CCHS in the past, and they are a delight. In Nov. of 2005, I brought you a Siamese mix, named Sammie, and you found him a home. A neighbor gave him to me, as they were moving, and then I found that we had to move too, and wouldn't have time to intigrate Sammie into my home. I found out, after you had him for a few days that he had Feline AIDS. But, you found him a good home, which had no other cats. For this I will be ever greatful. I grew to love Sammie, and I wanted him to have a good life, as a pampered pet. I truely hope this is what the little guy has. I visited Sammie as much as I could. And I missed seeing him before he was to go home, as he was getting his neutering done that day.
I am in the process of making a quilt, for you to sell, or auction off, to make some money from, as I can't afford to give you much at a time. My hope is to help you to find homes for all the dear animals you have, or will ever have. Truely Joanne Campbell Rantoul, IL |

Oscar's full name is now Oscar-Wow-Wow and Gabby's is Gabrielle. We call them Wow and Gabers. I never had pets growing up so it took a few weeks to get used to them... now I can't imagine not having them! We'll send pictures of them for the alumni page. Thanks for the opportunity!

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | We are currantly looking for a small dog or puppy for our family. My nine year old loved Duke, the 10 year old minature docsand, but I wondered why his owners brought him in. It has been a year since we lost our beagle to old age, and I wanted to spare him the heart ache of loosing another older dog. But he thought that Duke not being able to keep his toung in his mouth was the cutest thing he had ever seen. A puppy would most likely be here for the remainder of Stevie's life home with us, and he would enjoy it so. I want a small dog. I had two Llasa Apsos that lived to be 17 and 19 and enjoyed them a lot. But they are hard to come by. We will keep looking. Glad to hear that Duke found a home. |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | Hi everyone! For those of you who do not know me, I used to be on staff at CCHS a few years back (my jack russell Rosie and I used to work behind the front desk). Anyway, I just wanted to drop a line and say hello. I see that the shelter is still working wonders and involving the community as much as possible, and from the looks of some other guestbook posts, making lots of people and animals happy!
I also ended up taking home a yellow labrador named Honey when I worked at the shelter. She and Rosie are best friends and she has really come out of her shell since Rosie and I took her home. I don't know what my life would be like without these two lovely, yet furry, ladies and I encourrage anyone who is eligible to take a homeless animal into their life. They are a gift that will keep on giving! |

Spencer is now completely part of the family, and we can't imagine living without her (even when we see clumps of her hair blowing across the kitchen floor like a tumbleweed).
She is a friendly, lively dog and has not met a person she doesn't like and want to lick. :) Thank you CCHS for helping us find our 3rd child. We will be back when we get a bigger house. Take care, and good luck with all the other dogs and cats out there. |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | I adopted two adult cats a week before Memorial Day--an all black male, age 6, and a gray tabby female, age 4. Their shelter names were Paxton and Hannahbelle--I changed their names to Shadow and Annabelle. They are wonderful and we fell in love the first day. I've heard some people don't want to adopt black cats for various reasons, but no cat could be more cuddly than Shadow. One of my Vets thinks the all black cats make outstanding pets and he has several himself. It was difficult to narrow my search down to just two, but the people were very nice and allowed me to roam the cat rooms for two months until I got my two loving companions. |

Owen is a very sweet cat. I know he would make a wonderful pet. I hope someone special and wonderful realizes that he is very special. Older cats are easier to deal with than kittens. I have owned cats all of my life. I got my cat when he was 1-1/2 years old and it has been great. I have never had to train him. He is a constant companion and very loveable. I know that Owen will be the same. I hope that someone decides to adopt him.

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | Hi I had to give up our beautiful 2year dog "Chance" on last saturday 8/6/05 He is a spoiled boy but a good boy, The reason we had to give him up ,my Husband Howard has recurring Lung cancer and his entire body is quite tender and can not be touched because of the tenderness and of course Chance did not understand why he could not jumb on him like he did before the cancer reacurred. Chance is house trained, and in good health. he had his grooming at pets mart every 1-2 months. Liptons vet is his Dr. he is beatuiful white with tan on his back and around his ears. The lady we bought him from sold him to us as a pom, but he is a spitz. but never the less when whoever adopts him they will love him.heloves children and people. you really have to keep him on a leash, because he is use to being in thehouse and his fenced in back yard. i know the shelter will get a good home for him. his # is 053335 please when you adopt him post it, I know you will enjoy him . 2 seniors that had to do what they had to do. |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | I love birds as you can see with my e-mail address but one day in the summer of 2004 my dad thought that it would be fun to visit the animals at the humane society. When we got there he kept talking about how this dog was so cute and how if he had to get a dog that he was the one my dad would get. So after awile I finally made my way into the dog room and saw this adorable pitt/lab mix and he was so happy to see us that we took him into the adoption room. Then we brought my brother up to see him and they fell in love so we begged my mom to let us get it. She said ok but it can't get on the couch. So we got him and he loves to play fetch and we tought him lots of tricks. His name is Giggles. Now if that isn't a happy ending, I don't know what is! Thanks all of you down at the humane society for helping us adopt Giggles. Oh and by the way adopting Giggles made my best friend, Nichol Swaim and I want to volunteer so now we go twice a week and tell people abuot the cute animals for sale. |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | We have one dachshund/chihuahua mix, and will be looking to adopt another dog, soon. Your shelter is close enough to us, to consider it....along with our shelters here in Danville.
Although we're not sure if we want a male or female at this time......as ur male is a bit of a bully, but got along with our shepherd/chow female we had. Someone put her inside our fence one day, and I was soon wrapped around her paw. She passed away 2 yearsd ago......and we feel we may be healed enough to open our hearts to another dog. Age is no problem, as we are thinking we may not want a puppy.I am in my 50's & my husband in his 60's,and although he is retired, we wonder if we could be consistent enough to train a puppy. I guess I'll know when it hqappens....but I wanted to thank you for an excellent website. |

He became very sick for five days and we were afraid we would lose him. Finally he got well and has been healthy for a long time now. He is so wonderful and we're grateful that we have him. His name is Mocha Joe(Mojo for short). We appreciated the picture you took of us with him when he was adopted. It's fun looking at it. He and our other dog Jasper Mac get along really well.
They are two wonderful boys and Mojo has helped Jasper get over the loss of Bella, who died in March 2004. I plan to sign up my HVC card as I just saw the info in the newsletter. I could have missed it, but that info could be on the website. I bet lots of people would be interested in signing up to donate through IGA. p.s. I love the new cat room. It's very cool!! Bonnie |

Those three pups I got adopted to loving homes, but let me tell you it wasn't easy to let them leave .My brother adopted the little female (Lily is now her name)and they are the best of friends. My other sweet little baby boy is Cyrus,He's my baby.Cyrus is a mix, part English Mastiff,Rotweiler and Shepperd(BIG BOY!!)Very Very beutiful,Looks just like a mastiff same markings and color, his hair is longer.Peaple usually ask if he is a Saint Bernard.Cyrus was allso a rescue from a very nasty not fit for anyone to live in home!! This peaple had Cy's mother and father.his father is a full blood English Mastiff and his mother is Rot and Shep. They were constantly purposly breeding the two.She had allready had 3 litters when I got Cy.She has since had twoo more that I know of in the two years that I've had him. These peaple make me so sick!!!!!!!Every dog I have had has been a rescue, even before these two.If I could Iwould run my own shelter, and spend my time given all these animals all the love they deserve! They never asked to be born my make them suffer for what someone else could have prevented!!I'm telling you if I could there is one dog you have on your Shelter dogs page that I am absulutley in aww with he is so beutiful.I would adopt him in a heartbeat, but my fiance is holding me up a little!!Anyway I wish I didn't live so far away.I probably shouldn't ask but will tell me a little something about this dog,it is the one with short hair looks to be a sheperd mix and is tan!I'fallen in love !!!I love my own dogs so much I wish I could help them all!!!!!!!!My oldest daughter and I want so bad to volenteer, and I will soon have plenty of time to do just that seeins how I just put in my two weeks notice where I work i a factory. So anyhow, sorry this email is so long and boring ,but I am very passionate about this stuff!!!!!!!!!

We had to bring her back. She is such a good dog though. I am afraid she will get stolen from the shelter because she is pit bull mix and I remember when all those dogs were being stolen from you guys. I am very scared that will happen. I really miss my dog and I wished I lived in a bigger place for her. Please PLEASE don't let someone who has no time for a dog adopt her. Don't let someone who fights pit bulls adopt her. Please don't Euthanize her.... she made us happy and is good with kids. I know she can make some family very happy! Take care of my Mercedes! For she is in my heart everyday.

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | I was so thrilled to read about the new Communal Cat Room. It's wonderful to see the cats out of their cages and having a taste of "home". Do you rotate them so everyone gets to spend some time out of their cage? It would be great if all the adoptable pets could be housed in rooms like that. I haven't been to the shelter to see the room, but I plan to visit in the near future. |

In July of 1984, when you were in Bondville, I adopted a tiny, brown-striped kitten that we named Qatsi. It is with deep sadness that I write to you that she recently passed away--at the age of 20 years and 6 months! We had a long and great life together, and I will always miss my beautiful and amazing friend. Thank you for providing me with such a wonderful pet--a family member, really--and for this, in her memory, I am also donating to CCHS. Thank you again, and all the best to you and yours. Sincerely, Jeff Hellyer, Chicago |

But a year ago in May, my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and i had to give one of my babies back to you around June 03, and i was just wondering if i can find out about his location and how he is doing. i have the other Baby, A.J. He is my big baby. He is my rock and my support. I love him so much, he is my son. He loves to go to his Grandma and Grandpa's, he has a little bag, that HE will carry to their door. when he spends the night with them, which is often, see they are human ;-). i just wanted to say thank you for giving me two of the most wonderful boys i could have asked for. and i hope that Baker has found a good home, but i know he did, he came back to you. |

Is this her trying to eat my hand, her being angry with me, or her showing affection?

Our cat (7 y.o. tortoiseshell tabby) has returned home (much as your website predicted). Since we came out yesterday to check on an animal you had reported as arriving on Sept. 22, we thought you should know that ours, who disappeared on that date, is no longer missing. Thanks for your help--the mere existence of a shelter is some comfort when a pet is lost. |

Puppy Size "She keeps repeating it over and over again. We've been back to this shelter at least five times. It has been weeks now since we started all of this," the woman told the volunteer. "What is it she keeps asking for?" she asked. "Puppy size!" "Well, we have plenty of puppies, if that's what she's looking for." "I know. We have seen most of them," the mom said in frustration. Just then, the young child came walking into the office. "Well, did you find one?" her mother asked. "No, not this time," she said, with sadness in her voice. "Can we come back on the weekend?" The two women looked at each other, shook their heads and laughed. "You never know when we will get more dogs. Unfortunately, there's always a supply," the volunteer said. The young child took her mother by the hand, and headed to the door. "Don't worry, I bet we'll find one this weekend," the child said. Over the next few days, both mom and dad had long conversations with her. They both felt she was being too particular. "It's this weekend, or we're not looking any more," Dad finally said in frustration. "We don't want to hear anything more about puppy size, either," Mom added. Sure enough, they were the first ones in the shelter on Saturday morning. By now, the young child knew her way around, so she ran right for the section that housed the smaller dogs. Tired of the routine, her mom sat in the small waiting room at the end of the first row of cages. There was an observation window, so you could see the animals during times when visitors weren't permitted. The woman watched her daughter through this window. The young girl walked slowly from cage to cage, kneeling periodically to take a closer look. One by one, the dogs were brought out, and she held each one. One by one, she said, "Sorry, you're not the one." It was the last cage, on this last day in search of the perfect pup. The volunteer opened the cage door, and the child carefully picked up the dog, and held it closely. This time, she took a little longer. "Mom, that's it! I found the right puppy! He's the one! I know it!" she screamed with joy. "It's the puppy size!" "Sweetie, it's the same size as all the other puppies you held the last few weeks," Mom said. "No, not size --- sighs. When I held him in my arms, he sighed," she said. Don't you remember? When I asked you one day what love is, you told me love depends on the sighs of your heart. The more you love, the bigger the sighs! The two women looked at each other for a moment. Mom didn't know whether to laugh or cry. As she stooped down to hug the child, she did a little of both "Mom, every time you hold me, I sigh. When you and Daddy come home from work and hug each other, you both sigh. I knew I would find the right puppy if it sighed when I held it in my arms," she said. Then, holding the puppy up close to her face, she said, "Mom, he loves me. I heard the sighs of his heart!" Close your eyes for a moment, and think about the love that makes you sigh. I not only find it in the arms of my loved ones, but in the caress of a sunset, the kiss of the moonlight, and the gentle brush of cool air on a hot day. They are the sighs of God. Take the time to stop and listen. You will be surprised at what you hear. |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | In December 1988, my husband and I adopted a beautiful puppy from your shelter (or should I say, she adopted us). She turned out to be a Border Collie/Aust. Shepherd/? mix around 70 lbs. with a long, glossy black coat and white chest with white-tipped toes and tail. We named her Bismarck, and she was our joy until last fall, when she died unexpectedly of a ruptured tumor in her heart. I guess I just wanted to thank you for the 15 years we spent with her. She was the most perfect dog anyone could ever want, and we miss her dearly. |

All the experience that I gained there working in the lab, etc has really come into play in my studies. Hope all is well with everyone and that you keep up the good work. Haven't had the chance to visit any humane societies over here just yet, but part of my required extramural studies may be done at a shelter. So far I've spent three weeks on a sheep farm and have plans for a dairy farm this summer and possibly pigs or poultry. Once again, hope all is well. I think of you guys often. Take care.

If this dog does not find a home, I would be interested in the dog for my sister who lives on a 400 acre farm near Jim Edgar's Panther Creek Conservation area. The dog I am referring to is HOWIE. He looks like he has been throught the mill. My sister is a single older woman whose children have grown up and gone a away. Her last dog was a schnauzer mix and he passed away November 2002. She said she would like another little fella to cuddle with and spoil. If Howie does not find a home and if he is not over 4 years of age, I would be interested in him. Please let me know.

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | We adopted a cat named "Jupiter" from you 7 years ago and a Karelian Bear Hound named "Archie" 5 years ago. Both are wonderful animals. Jupiter was a 2-3 month old kitten and Archie was 2 years old when we adopted them. They get along with each other very well. We could not have found a better dog than Archie. He is very well behaved, very good with children, and loves attention. We learned right after we adopted Archied that he was scheduled to be euthanized. That would have been a grievous shame. We are very glad that we got there when we did. We were told that he was a Border Collie mix, but we have since learned his true identity.
I hope that all the animals there could be as lucky as ours and find a home. |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | I adopted Fritz summer 2001. A beagle/terrier mix. Very smart. Loving. Loves chipped ice, peanuts in shell, chewing sticks, chasing beach ball, treats in reward for "Say please"(one bark),"What's one plus one?"(two barks), Sit, down, sit up, catch it, walk for me (he walks on hind legs). sitting in lap, children, chasing squirrels and rabbits -- they always get away. Curious about cats. Can't figure what to do with them. Loves his squeaky toys. Person-companion puts toys in toy box. Within minutes he has them all over the house again. Likes running and going for walks. Will get his leash and bring it to companion.
Lost my red cocker spaniel, Binky, June 28, 2003 to osteosarcoma. He was adopted January, 1992 @ 11 months of age. Miss him dearly. He began losing eyesight at age 5 and was totally blind. Thanks to good training he could find his way when companion told him "right turn" or "left turn". Long to bury my face in his beautiful hair again. I can visualize him in Doggie Heaven with his ears flying as he races across space. I know he now has no more pain. |

| Comments, suggestions, tell us about your pet(s), etc. : | Hi, I volunteer at the local shelters in southern Illinois and research helping individuals who can no longer house their animals online and communicate with various organizations. Some professionals in our area help me with expenses out of the goodness of their hearts as my pockets are usually drained in keeping heartworm treatments, etc. done on orphaned pets. We are searching for area organizations who are no kill. Down in this area there are so few of those that we are seriously considering not supporting a couple of the organizations who do kill. We also found out yesterday that one is selling it's puppies to Class B dealers. After two years of continued financial support and them lying to us on a regular basis, we are sorely disappointed. My question is this for my personal use.....I am in West Frankfort, IL. It is located right off I-57. Would that be too far to adopt a pet from you. I know it sounds weird but recently my Boxer boy lost his mate to old age. He is very lonesome now and you have three males who fit the profile. They are Scout, #A045576, Bubba, A045585, and possibly Waggy A045430. If you would consider me driving to see these boys I would greatly appreciate it. My Champ is so lonesome and he was raised with the old Boy who passed. I am retired and never leave my dogs alone and in the event I need to my husband is here. We have 1 acre completely security fenced and double secured in back. We have doggie doors and our home is completely pet friendly. I have numerous vet and professional references. This pet would have Heaven on earth in our home. Thank you for any consideration and thank you for your wonderful work. |
