Comments:I don't know how you managed it but I grew very fond of Kahrag and enjoyed this story as much more that a taming of the shrew.

Twice I found myself tearing up at Kahrag's parting with Chekhov and moved by his steadfast devotion.

This is the only Star Trek fiction I have ever read and likely will (though in fact I am going to see what else you have and peruse it) but this is the third time in two years I have read it. I wish I could give you a thoughtful, constructive critique of your story but I cannot put my finger on what it is that hooks me in. I think perhaps Kahrag's character is a large part, his confidence, arrogance, gentleness and the strange dynamic between himself and Chekhov. The strange conversations between characters where people sometimes said unexpected things or persisted at a point where I would have left off, the scenes in the hunting lodge and the theaters, the cozy domesticity between Chekhov and Kahrag and Kahrag's persistence.

In any event, thank you very much for a haunting read, one which moves me.

Comments:I'm glad to see I made the archive so soon after joining the COCO CHANNEL. I am a bit embarrassed by all the errors I made in submitting the file, mostly editing. (I knew I should have doublespaced between paragraphs when they were on two separate pages!) I'll be more careful in future file submissions.

BTW, I have another Picard/Riker tale waiting in the wings. But do you want me to take another crack at submitting my Garak/Bashir story, just for practice?

LL&P,

Ida

Comments:I'm so glad there's this handy feedback form at the end of
the story, because I *really* enjoyed it. Thanks to TNN's
Star Trek movie-a-thon lately, I've rediscovered all the
fun of Spock/McCoy. Unfortunately, most of the fics out
there that deal with them are just graphic tales of lust; I
was looking for something with the *other* emotions between
the two, and your story was perfect! I think you
characterized both of them very well---Spock is still Spock
(just with a little voice in his head ^_^). The dialogue in
the story was handled very well (as was the sex scene).

Thanks for writing "Illogic" and reading my long letter to
you. ^^

Story Title or Subject: This story
Comments:Let's review this- Mr Checkov is a homo, and dreams about
dirty sex with Captain Kirk.
Meanwhile, Kirk is boffing every living female ET that
exists from one end of the galaxy to the other. Where would
he find the time to do Checkov? Only in Pavel's dreams,
hence, the fantasy nature of your story.
The only way it could REALLY happen would be this scenario,
based on an old joke:
Kirk is beamed down to the planet Kreplach, along with
Spock, McCoy, Uhuru, Yeoman Rand, and Nurse Chapel. They
are looking for survivors of a recent war that took place
on this planet located on the edge of the galaxy. Medical
assistance explains the need for Nurse Chapel's presence.
Yeoman Rand is there 'cos she's pissed that she hasn't done
jack for three episodes now, and since she's married to the
Boss (Gene, not Bruce), she -um- convinced him to let her
do a little more just for one week.
So back to the story: Just as they start their planet
recon, a Klingon Man-O-War appears and starts firing on the
Enterprise, which is in orbit just above Kreplach. The
Klingon ship escapes before the Enterprise can retaliate.
There are casualties on the starship, so McCoy is beamed
back up to take care of the wounded, leaving Nurse Chapel
on the planet's surface to offer medical care. Oddly, there
doesn't seem to be any wounded; in fact, there is no one
anywhere at all, just a lot of smoke, fire, and bomb
craters. Spock takes a tri-quarter reading and confirms
that there doesn't seem to be any life forms anywhere.
Spock, therefore, volunteers to return to the ship and take
command in the wake of the attack. Kirk agrees with Spock
and allows the Vulcan to return to the ship, providing
Spock gives him a full damage report.
This leaves Kirk with just Uhuru, Chapel, and Rand on the
planet to continue their search for survivors.
Suddenly, they hear a noise, and look up just in time to
see the Klingon ship decloaking, ready to attack again.
Spock, at the helm now, sees the warship and tells Sulu to
put up the deflector shields, which he does, but not before
a blast from the Klingon ship zaps out the transporter
circuits. The Enterprise fires back, blasting a hole in one
of the wings of the Klingon ship, which again disappears
from view, but is not likely to return in such a damaged
condition.
Spock pages Kirk and says that there was some damage done
to level 3, but that the most damage took place in the
transporter room. Scotty, who is unhurt, tells Spock that
he "canna fix the transporter until we geh back ta
Starbase."
Kirk tells Spock that planet Kreplach looks somewhat
inhabitable. He tells Spock to return the ship to Starfleet
Command so Scotty can fix the transporter. Kirk says he'll
make do on the planet with the three women till the ship
comes back. The last comment caused Spock's eyebrow to
raise in that uniquely Vulcan way.
So the Enterprise leaves, and Kirk is stuck on the planet
with the three women. They continue their recon, searching
for life but finding none. They eventually find food,
shelter, and, before long, close encounters of the carnal
kind. Twice a week for each of the ladies with James T.
Kirk, 'T' for 'T-square.'
Several weeks later, the Enterprise returns to planet
Kreplach, transporter intact. Spock tries calling Kirk, but
the Captain is -um- incommunicado at the moment. Spock uses
the thermal scanner on the planet surface and locates where
the landing party is. He beams Checkov and McCoy down on
the planet to get them.
Kirk is walking out through the front door of the building
he and the others were hiding in, just as McCoy and Checkov
are beaming down. He looks at McCoy and says, "Bones, am I
glad to see you. I have this itch down there (points at
Little Kirk) that won't go away. And Checkov- well, there
go my Sundays!"

Comments:Hey this was fun. I loved your discription of Spock at the
end "the sliking seething spock" was fun. I hope there was
a reason my favorite ensign was asleep on the brige.
Endless boring mapping of nothing, or a very excititng
evening before. i really liked his response back to Sulu.
That sounded right to me. My only question is, how could
you have written the story in June 2001, it's only May in
my part of the world? Did you time travel? too cool.
Keep up the good work. Sprite

Story Title or Subject: Re: Wakefulness feedback:

Thanks for your feedback on the story. Wakefulness is the
last Chekov story I wrote before I started writing
Garak/Bashir so, unfortunately, I never explored what
happened after the project failed or more of his
relationship with Spock or Kirk or Scotty.

I think what happened is that Chekov took the failure more
seriously that night than he should have. He was tired and
overwrought and just needed some sleep. That's why Kirk
didn't make a big deal about it and let him sleep. Being
older, Kirk knew that even when things fail, if everyone is
still alive, there is always something that can be salvaged
from it. But Chekov is young, intense and Russian, and
everything is the end of the world for him.

Thanks for feeding back. I'm flattered you've read the
story three times.

story. I really like the whole series, but with this one I
keep coming back to it. So how did Chekov handle the
failure of the project? Any help or comfort from his
friends after the meeting the next day? I like to see
more. I like you writing style, it's easya and comfortable
and makes you feel like these are your oldest and dearest
friends. Thanks for sharing. Tee
