| Comments: | Well done! You built a better frame than ANY sofa I have ever owned. I had the same idea for the same reasons and started researching. This is the only helpful link I have been able to find. So thank you for the inspiration. I saw your earlier comment about where to find springs... Where did you get your Dacron and foam? Also from the local furniture store? The only part I'm iffy about is the upholstery. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated! |

| Comments: | I am rebuilding a sofa now. The reason why is because the springs keep breaking. I was wondering why you went from webbing to springs? I was thinking of going from springs to webbing because I seem to keep breaking springs... As far as your couch goes, it looks great! Especially for a first time job. I have been building wooden chairs, bed frames and tables for a while and I can tell you that my first builds were not as good as your couch by far. Anyway, thanks for any information that you may have... |

Did you decide on the wavy back for any reason? what is the angle of the back to the base? How do I find the correct angle? Sorry if I sound awkward, but we have to build one soon, as ours is wayyyyyyyyyyy past its sell by date/your advice please Please dont think I am not being critical or difficult. I have to know theses things before we build ours Warm regards Gilly |

Any help on this matter would be GREATLY appreciated. I wanna make sure the job is done right but at a reasonable cost. We LOVE the finished product of this project! Great job, and thanks! |

I have viewed sofas, chairs, sectionals etc. taken apart to explain how they are made and your project was up there with the best of the best. I would overlook some of the other comments left for you. I noticed that you commented on ways you would do it different the next time- if you made those changes you mentioned it would be perfect. I get the feeling though, that this is already perfect for you. I have been an interior designer for a while and rest assure that there are many people who would pay good money for a design just like yours or close to it.Good job!!!!

| Comments: | I'm a pro upholsterer and I have to say that your frame is better than most found inside factory made pieces. I often have to fix frames inside furniture that cost big bucks new. Your upholstery technique is/was rough, but I learned by doing and my firsts were rough too. A shortcut to this is find an old couch that's close in size to what you want, strip it down, repair/redesign the frame and restyle it from the frame out. Most of the frame and hardware will be reusable. New legs are easy to find. Much of the difference between one couch and another is the shape and amount of foam and stuffing. .... just soft sculpture and the number of cushions. No big deal. It's a great way to save money, express yourself, and keep junk out of the landfill. |

| Comments: | I think it looks great! As a bystander, you (other people) have to look past the colors, the frame work looks professional, as well as the upholstering. Great job! I have a couch I love, it's deep, and needs to be recovered. The back is weak, it seems to only have one piece of wood at the top, but it is bowing. Do you think if I took it down to the bare bones that I could put another piece of wood and it would be sturdy again? A few years ago, it fell off a truck and I think that's what did it. I am trying to decide if it's worth it. I really love the sofa, and haven't found another one as comfortable. Thanks! Please email me. |

Great Job!! I am going to attempt to build a small sectional for my living room. I am planning to use a sofa I already have & a used loveseat I purchased really cheap. If you don't mind me asking....what was the final cost on your project? I have found a wonderful storage sectional at PotteryBarn.com and I plan to use it for inspiration. My husband is going to kill me. We are just now finishing up my sons room. My husband built a twin bed, twin trundle bed with draws and a wall-unit. He is awesome. >>Where did you get the springs if you don't mind me asking, couldn't find them on the internet.Ya,by the way did your husband like it after you completed it? Bet he was proud>> I got the springs from the local upholstery shop. They keep them in big rolls and were happy to cut some for me for CHEAP. I am sure it helped when I walked in with a "cut your mullet" t-shirt and the guy who waited on me had a HUGE mullet and said, "actually I was thinking of getting a haircut". And Kim, I am a dude, and I have no husband (or wife for that matter). Chad is generally a guy's name. Email me if you have any further questions. >> If you have the time, could you please tell me how you put the frame together, such as did you use corner wood supports and what type of wood did you use.>> Kat, the frame is made of #1 grade pine (I know, not the best choice, but it's what I could afford), ideally you should use oak. I did use corner supports, you can see them in some of the pics. Don't forget, the springs put a huge amount of pressure on the frame...brace it up as much as you can. I'll try to check this guestbook more often. Chad |

| Comments: | HI,
Your web page helped me a great deal! My design taste is very modern and all my furniture is Italian design. I have been tossing around the idea of making a $10,000 Italian sofa I absolutely love, it is a streamline sofa with no arms. I have a good sense of design and feel I can do this for a fraction of the cost. If you have the time, could you please tell me how you put the frame together, such as did you use corner wood supports and what type of wood did you use. I am excited to take on this challenge..Thank You!! Kat |

| Comments: | I have to say I think you're awesome. Thanks for the overview. I am thinking of building a corner unit and had some ideas, but no clue at all as to whether anything I had in mind was feasible. Your pictures and explanation helped loads and also gave some very good tips / hints of things to do, steps to take etc. etc.
Many, many, many thanks. Its great to have guys like you on the web. Regards Martin |

| Comments: | Hi, loved your article. I am building my own sofa, too! Yup, I'm crazy, too! But seriously, I enjoy working with my hands and this way I know I am getting a sofa that a). will last and b). doesn't cost the earth and c). is made to measure for my new apartment.
I will post some pictures when it is finished. Great idea. Have you made anymore nice furniture? Best regards Bobbi |

| Comments: | I'm beginning to construct my own sofa and wanted to ask a question, why did you decide against the jute webbing and plump for the springs instead? |

| Comments: | It does look real good, Chad. You must be so proud of yourself, I'm sure :-) Hope the nap proved comfortable. Yep, it can be done indeed, but I sure as hell can tell you, not by me, lol. Take care, man.

| Comments: | Nice couch. The commentary is amusing. Did you wing it or did you know how to build furniture before? I'll have to show you the plans for the bar that I plan to build this year. By the way my e-mail address is kris.kershner@gmail.com if you have any other web projects to share. |

| Comments: | Thanks for all the nice comments. Jendog, I am keeping a record of my expenses and so far (fingers crossed) it looks like I will have a nice new couch for a third of the price of a new one. And I LOVE building things! That is part of the fun! |

| Comments: | Hey Chad :-)
I'm so amazed at what you can do... This is just coming along real fine!!! Can't wait to see it upholstered and sat on :-) So wish I could do that kind of things, not only to save money but rather for the satisfaction of having done it myself. Keep up the good work, I'll check it out again soon. SadBetty XXXX |
