| Comments: | We are also decended from Mathurin Tetreau. Though we live in western Canada, my grandfather, Hormidas Tetreault was born in Quebec, and moved to Saskatchewan for the railroad in 1923. Immigrants from France had settled and built the small town of St. Brieux early in the 20th century and when the railway came to town a french speaking station master was needed.
Until reading your guestbook my knowledge of the tree went back as far as Mathurin in France then dead-ended. It is very exciting to see that Mathurin had other children who remained in france. Perhaps this Bernard Tetreau has traced the tree further back? There is a river in southern France not far from the Spanish border called the Tet (accent ague over the e). Could there be some connection to our name one wonders? Take care cousins. |

After their marriage I have not been able to find Lucin. I did find Luisa and their dau. Mary on the 1870 census living with her parents, Ruben and Mariah HICKS in Weakley Co. Then on the 1880 census I found Luisa and Mary in Fentress Co. TN. Still no husband, Lucin. After 1880 I can not find any of them. I did find where a Mary Jane McGINNIS married David Ballentine CREEKMORE in Scott Co. TN on 5/21/1900. My great-great-grandfather was a slave named Alfred McGinnis and he Married a woman named Amanda Adams and they had 17 children and one was my great-grandfather named Alex McGinnis who was born 1856 in Vincent, Alabama and died in 1939 in Sunflower, Mississippi but it was said that he died in Vincent and that his tombstone spells Elex. I was able to locate information on most of his siblings but not him because they say he was a drifter, so i am trying to locate the Mcginnis Slave Masters data who owned his father and mother to see where the McGinnis name came from since it is a Irish Last name and i have no other information about Alex McGinnis. Growing up I only knew the McGinnis name was Irish and I knew nothing else until my 13 year old daughter asked where we came from! now me and her have been researching it for several months now and we got everyone's name's, dates except any info about Alex who seemed to have dropped off the face of the earth, I was told that he had been dead for five years when his family found out. If anyone can help us find the Slave Owners data it will help us complete our history; We are very thankful for this site and to let me write so much.

I believe their graves were moved when the road/highway was moved through the town. I was not able to locate the new place of internment. My grandfather's (Byron Franklin McGinness) grandfather (Joel) moved to Kansas and settled in Marion county where my some of my family still farms.
I believe I have the original of Samuel and Margarets marriage certificate. I also believe my direct ancestor would be their son James. |
