In my opinion Christopher Colombus was not a hero, yet a man who began the chain of Slavery within Capitalism. I dont understand how some people are so easily convinced that when Colombus stumbled upon the Caribbean,it was suddenly discovered. As if it never existed before hand. | Comments: | I Just learned about the atrocities of Chris's government back in the Bahamas. He is truly responsible for the harsh treatment of the natives. I was not known of these acts before, and thought of him as a good man. But in fact, it seems that he did everything for gold and glory. During his first trip, he was gentle, and the natives even nicer. THey offered many things, and just were friendly people. It was when Colombus returned for his later journeys that he became tyrannically greedy. He set up a government, along with his brothers, and soon with enough troops, forced the natives to collect a good amount of gold, which later became a bell full of gold dust when gold ran low, or 250 lbs of some fabric, i forgot. But, if they did not meet the criteria, they would be dislimbed and bled to death. Chris did this to show of his successes, at the cost of many Native lives. Eventually, he was arrested by Isabella and Ferdinand, for his bad rule (they did not know of their atrocities toward the natives) and made one more trip before he died, a bitter and deserved death. Chris Colombus should not be seen as a hero, and people talking about his great crap in 6th grade or whatever should reconsider or also inform of his bad rule and greed. |

is quite overestimated on this site. I'm not going to idealize or worship Christopher Columbus, but I think that there are a few misunderstandings. Christopher Columbus was a man with a dream. He wanted to prove that the world was round. He had no intention to commit "genocide" (as you call it). He wasn't the man who killed all the 'millions'of people! The 'genocide'has been committed by all the later generations of immigrants from Europe. I agree with the fact that genocide has been committed on the native americans and that's awful indeed, but I disagree with the idea of Christopher Columbus being an Adolf Hitler (nor do I agree with the idea of CC being a great Hero.
