| Comments: | I went back and noticed that I was in error. Hillbilly days was in fact mentioned. Sorry about that.
While I'm at it. Does anyone remember Pine Springs Resort which was located at Lester's lake out by the airport. I used to spend a lot of summer days there. The lake was divided in half with half of it being for fishing and the other half for swimming. The swimming half had a sand beach and a lot of other amenities. There was a two story building on the fishing half of the lake that had what I remember as being a dance hall on the second floor. |

| Comments: | So many memories. I grew up in the Una and Flatrock (Woodbine) area in the '50s and '60s and can remember many of these wonderful events and places.
One that I didn't see, or maybe I missed it, was Hillbilly Days in Madison. This was always such a huge annual event in Nashville and I can remember that one year, the Beverly Hillbilly's made an appearance in the parade as I recall. I used to spend many happy hours at Fair Park, Cascade Plunge and also at the Rollerdrome. The rollerdrome had a bus that would come by and pick us up on Saturday mornings and then bring us back home. I'd also like to mention that I loved making the trip out toward Lebanon to Horn Springs Resort and swimming in the pool there. The water was so cold that I can still remember it. I also vividly remember the night that the Women's building at the Fairgrounds burned. We could see the light from it all the way out at Smith Springs Road. Harvey's and the Monkey Bar was also such a highlight for my brother and myself. Of course, these were the days when people dressed for their shopping trips, men wore suits and a fedora and women were always dressed to look their best. Jeans were something you wore to play outside in the dirt, never to go out in public. You've opened memory lane when life was simpler and Nashville was a thriving metropolis striving to make it's mark on the national scene. |

Have great memories of going to the park every year to see what had been added and listen to the Christmas carols and sigh at how wonderful it was. Thanks for compiling all these goodies for us to remember. . . brought many smiles to my heart. Now Huel Howser is out here in California where I now live. But he still sounds like home to me. |

Does anyone remember Finkle;s 5 and 10, on Gallatin Road, near Greenwood avenue, or the hot cake donuts from the Krystal. I lived on East Delmas, just off of Gallatin Road. Phillips-Robinson was across from my street.... used to see their Red Angel come rolling out, with a big rotating three-piece light on top. I do remeber the grill faced the street and as you walked by you could see the cooks working away. The smell wasn't bad either. |

At any rate, during summers in the 1940s, "Cuz" was one of the powers that be at Camp Greenbriar in Alderson, West Virginia. I attended that camp during almost the entire summer of 1947 at the suggestion of Nashville football star Bill Wade. Bill and his parents and brother lived across the street from my parents and me on Kenner Avenue for a while during the mid-40s. Bill was a counselor at Camp Greembriar. I remember that several Nashville boys atteded the camp. |

| Comments: | I was born in the old General Hospital in 1944, grew up in and around the Donelson area living mostly on Spence Lane. To make money I mowed yards with and old push mower and as a sack boy for Mr. Paul Washer at Washers BiRite Grocery. For fun we went swimming in Mill Creek and for the dares of others would cross over the Cumberland River to the park via the railroad bridge being caught more than onced on the bridge by and on coming train. I was glad to find this site. Boy has this woke up a lot of great old memories. I would love to know what happened to my child hood friends, you know the ones that always hold a place in your heart. |

| Comments: | I was not born in this era, but my mom and other family members were. I enjoyed reading everyone's memories of Nashville. I had always heard my family talk about the same things that are written. However, there was one thing that bothered me after reading this ... Before there was Marsha Trimble (rest her soul) there was KATHY JONES! I was told this story because she was good friends with my aunt and my mom.November 29 1969, Kathy Jones, 12 yrs. old, left her house to go skating at the Hippodrome and never made it. She was found the next day behind Krispy Kreme, on Thompson Ln. She had been violently raped and beaten. At the funeral home, her socks were found in her throat. This case has never been solved. It is something that has haunted my family for 42 years. IF ANYONE KNOWS ANY THING ABOUT THIS PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH THE INFO. PLEASE AFTER ALL THESE YEARS ALLOW KATHY JONES GET THE JUSTICE SHE DESERVES SO SHE CAN FINNALLY R.I.P. SHE IS/WAS ONE OF GOD'S ANGELS!!!!!!! HELP BECAUSE IT SEEMS AS IF SHE HAS BEEN FORGOTTEN~ |

| Comments: | I was a product of the fifties. I graducated from Cohn High school in 1957. The classes of "57" all across the US made Rock and Roll what it is today. Everything in Dreambook brings back memories. If any of you out of towners want to read some great stories on the history of Nashville, you need to subscribe to Nashville Restrospect. It is a monthly newspaper. You can call the editor, Allen Forkum, at 1-615-391-3666 and place an order. This past issue, April of 2011, had a story about a rock and roll concert at Sulpher Dell in 1959.
Tom Fetherling The Villages, Florida Cohn High Class of "57" If anyone needs any information on Nashville Business's or residences, I have the Polk Nashville Directory for the years 1942, 1951 and 1958. Just email me and I will respond. There is a great wealth of information in these books. Everyone needs to pass the website along to all their friends and classmates from the past. |

| Comments: | I lived in Nashville in the 70s, so am not really an old-timer from there. I am trying to remember the name of a bar on the corner of 28th Ave. South and West End Avenue -- the old two-story red brick building (one of the few remaining old buildings on now-"trendy" West End) is now a Verizon store. It's across the street from the McDonald's by Centennial Park. I think it had an Irish name -- Clancey's or Caseys? If anyone knows and can e-mail me, please do! |

| Comments: | I have had the most wonderful night reading Nashville Memories. I am soon going to be 62, so yes I grew up in Nashville with the many things mentioned, almost makes you cry of the greatness we had. I went to Two Rivers until 10th grade. Got into girl trouble and had to finish at Howard High, which ended up being great. I once won a dance contest at the Tiger A GO GO. Yes I had the car they supplied the gas for us to go to teen clubs. I also went to Pirates Cove and Dons Den. Who would have thought of Bill Grewcock. My brother is passed now, Alvin Thomas Jr (Butch) also went to Two Rivers. Yes the ferry was the best, could get to Inglewood in no time and East Nashville. I remember working in the 70's at Irelands Steak & Biscuits on Murf RD. I graduated in 1968 from Howard and married Tommy Billingsley from Glencliff, who I met at the Dog House in Old Hickory, yea, love all the dance spots. I was in the 8th grade when I went to the first prom Two Rivers had with Mark Linville. It was called Shangrala. I looked at the pic tonight and laughed at my hair do and still loved my scarlet dress with hoops underneath. When I was very little my grandmother lived off Hermitage AVE. One day my mother came to pic me up and had the most beautiful dress given to me by Noel Ball, it was a rose colored polished cotten full skirted dress with a clown collar. Gosh!!!!! When very little in elementry school I remember the dentist coming and the health nurse with navy blue shoes, and seeing her in the parking lot, it didn't matter what your parents said you got your shots and then they were informed with note you took home. Yes there are many things I read of my very memories with Dreambook. I am now trying to find a copy of the 1967-68 Annual from Howard to see my majorette pic and best dressed superlative pic also to show my 4 grandchildren. I was in the 1967 Christmas parade marching and a Tennessean photographer ask my mother if he could take my pic for the issure the nest day on things of the Christmas Parade of 1967. He told my mother I had what he thought to be Betty Grabel legs of all the girls, can't hardly use them now.lol I would like to have a copy of that as well I do remember my march from Cenntennial Park to what is now Riverfront, in the cold which I did not feel then. Thank you for all these memories I just read. What a nice walk.

| Comments: | Am a third generation born at Baptist Hospital in Nashville. I remember many of these places and events first-hand. My dad worked at L&C and we took every opportunity to visit the observation deck. Went every year in our pajamas to see the nativity scene. Rode the monorail at Harvey's. Spent a lot of time hanging out downtown after visits to the orthodontist. Loved the parks. Family had our first art show in the grotto at the Parthenon. This brought back a lot of memories. Thanks. |

We had birthday parties at the Green Hill Theater, went to the Belle Meade theater on friday nights, and always had so much fun just walking down to the Westgate Shopping center, and ordering a 25 cent milkshake at the drugstore from money we had saved from our neighborhood talent shows, and kool-aid stands. Wish I could go back and do it all again. |

I was the tag-along kid who needed a sitter. My luck was that I learned to play autoharp from none other than Maybelle Carter, met Grandpa Jones, Chet Atkins, and String Bean. There is so much history in the Nashville that I used to know. It is sad that progress has taken from us those happy times. |

| Comments: | I would give my "Combat Pay" up for a month to have a plate of that Charlie Knickens BBQ with corn bread shipped out here to the Islands. These Islands are just grand, but, they still dont know how to BBQ like old Charlie did on Jefferson Street and that big skillet fried chicken was not bad either at Mamas Place just down the street from Charlies place, she used those big iron skillets to fry her chicken, would give the Old Kentucky Colonel a fit now as his chicken is "dead in the water" compared to that chicken. One regret about Nashville is that my girl would not wait until I finished my tour and run off with another to get married, before I returned, well I returned in 30 years, what did she want, to get married young, oh well it all worked out, found me another out here in the islands. Been trying to train her to cook for 30 years also, you can not win them all, but thanks for the memories, now that sounds familiar. |

Shelby Park and paddle boats, Summers riding the bus to Centennial Park, Fair Park, Downtown to visit the Museum, stop for a hot dog and a glass of orange juice, then over to see Old Uncle Jesse who sold papers at Printer's Alley. I use to walk the halls of the Capital Building as a kid and climb the spiral staircase in the Law Library and the workers would give me treats. The people in grand old building were wonderful. A kid could get out and explore, see the sites and be safe. I learned so much. What fun! |
