Page| WELL, FINALLY STRUCK GOLD-Someone e mailed me and we were a hit-Her Grandmother was an Aunt of mine and we both knew each other's family-Had a nice meeting with this person and brought pictures and she had pictures and we matched. Her dad was my dad's cousin. We met each other's family and we all had lunch together. We had a great day and are planning to meet again. We are real cousins and I could not be happier. My new cousin lives in long Island and so do I. We had quite the reunion or shall I say first meeting. It was very exciting and a long time coming.
Thank you for this site. |

| I see there are some people searching for informations about their ancestors from Elbing, so I want to share what I know. Loewenthals, nowadays, are known in Elbl±g (former Elbing) as family well-deserved for the city. "Kaufhaus Leowenthal" is one of the most cognoscible buildings on old postcards*. There are some informations from the local press, I hope they may be somehow helpfull. Sorry for my english.
Kaufhaus Loewenthal in Elbing was built shortly before I WW by the bridge called Leege-Brücke, in the place where David Loewenthal set up his business in 1878. It was one of the most modern warehouses in this region, with an elevator and observation desk with café. In the result of discriminating regulations the warehouse has been taken from its rightful owners (Alfred, Heinhich and Kurt Loewenthals) by the civic gouvernment and after 1933 bought by the limited partnership of Franz Jacobi, who changed it's name to "Kaufhaus am Elbing". Loewenthal family has been forsed to emigrate, Alfred Loewenthal was even imprisoned for 16 days. Later, he lived with his wife in Palestine, then they moved to Switzerland, and in 1953 to West Berlin (Wilmersdorf). Alfred Loewenthal had a company in Berlin, in which he employed many former citizens of Elbing. He died in 1962. His son Horst was a director of popular american airlines TWA (with residence in Geneve and Zurich), then he worked as an oficer of the US-Army general staff. He died in a plane crash during business trip. The older son of A. Loewenthal- Werner, was a high administrative official in Washington. Alfred Loewenthal is mentioned in this article which may interest you http://www.elbing.de/20001_20-23.pdf *There are some examles of postcards with Kaufhaus Loewenthal: http://www.elblag-moje-miasto.pl/staryelblag_pliki/image005.gif http://www.aefl.de/ordld/AK%20Elbing/kaufhaus.jpg You can see that building (before it burned) also on this russian documentary movie from 1945 (2.25-2.27 minute). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hotbkoHUWM Greetings from Elbl±g |

| I am researching the Loewenthal family from Elbing, Prussia, now Poland. My grandparents were Alfred and Elsa Loewenthal. Alfred's brothers were Heinrich and Kurt. The family business was called "Kaufhaus D. Loewenthal", a department store confiscated in 1934, I believe. Alfred and Elsa survived the war in Tel Aviv, returned to Berlin and died there. Some of the family settled in the UK, taking the name "Lawton". Alfred's two sons moved to the US and served in the US Army in WW2.
I am hoping to find living relatives who can provide family history details. |

| The story I was told was that my grandfather, Samuel Lowenthal, came from somewhere in or near Russia. He did not come through Ellis Island, but arrived in Philadelphia. He and his brothers became merchants and opened a store somewhere in Kentucky. My grandmother, Sarah Ellis Lowenthal, was unhappy and so they moved to New York. However, my uncles remained down South, or so the story goes. |

| I am the grandaughter of Kurt Loewenthal who left Gelsenkirchen, Germany in 1937 when he saw where things were headed. He had a brother and sister who he never heard from again and one brother that survived Buchenwald only to die a short time later. Any relatives out there? That would be amazing! |

| Hi, I am from Venezuela living in the US since 1991. My grandfather, Fritz Loewenthal, immigrated from Munich, Germany to Caracas around 1940 with his family (father George, brother Kurt.. don't remember mother's name). Last name might have been "Von Loewenthal" until the early 1900s. Fritz (d. 1992) had 12 children (one deceased) with his Venezuelan-born wife; Kurt (d. 1994) had about 6 children. My family has kept close ties with relatives near Freiburg, Germany, and a few of our generation have moved back there and also to Cologne. From our family, there must be about 40 people in Venezuela with the Lowenthal (or Loewenthal) last name, about 3 in Germany and two in the US. |

| Hi, I married into the Lowenthal family in 1971. My husband is Robert Lowenthal. His father was Maurice Lowenthal who lived in Chicago the last 30 years before dying in the late 70's. His father was named Moritz Carl Lowenthal and he came to America from Bavaria. He was a brew master at a beerhaus there. (Lowenbrau? (:...) We have alot of old pictures too. I think it is great to know more about the family. Great website. Beth Lowenthal |

| Hi,
I am the daughter of Ruth Lowenthal, who was born in Aschaffenburg, daughter of Ludwig and Erna Lowenthal. My Grandparents and Great Grandparents owned "Kaufhaus Mathias Lowenthal" in that City. Luckily, my Great Grandparents and Grandparents together with my mother Ruth, and her brother Joachim (Joe), managed to emigrate to South Africa by 1938. Ludwig,(winner of the iron cross 1st and 2nd class in the 1st World War,) his father Mathias, and the generations before were all born in Horstein, Bavaria, where they were Linen weavers and vintners. Alphons Lowenthal (winner of the iron cross as well as the Pula Marit, as he covered the retreat of the German Army from the Western Front at the end of the 1st World War), was a younger brother of my grandfathers, and was the last Jewish Lawyer to leave Nurnberg before the Holocaust. He made aliyah with his wife Dr. Julia Lowenthal (Rothschild), her son Heine, and their daughter Barbara, and was active in the Jewish Agency. Would very much like to be in contact with any other Lowenthals, especially those of this lineage! Regards, Lorraine Glogauer |

| Didn't realize all of you were on here - including my own daughter Jamia Lowenthal, ha! Here's some info that might be helpful to some of you. I married into the Lowenthal family in 1965. What I do know is a little bit I found out from the Lowenthal's who are now deceased. The Lowenthal name was orginally VonLowenstein, a German/Jew name. During the days of Hitler, all jews were being slaughtered. To keep that from happening, the name was changed to Lowenthal. An airport bearing the name Lowenthal still stands today. Lowenthal means "Valley of the Lions" and at one time, while family members migrated to New York, they owned the DVD underwear company. Family members migrated to San Francisco and outlying areas and I think one of the notes I read below, spoke of family being in the hotel business in Jackson, Ca. That is true - because I was there! Edgar and Reba Lowenthal lived in Jackson, Ca. for 60 years. They were in the hotel/restaurant business. They had a son Wesley Gene Lowenthal and a son Claude. They had children of course; of which some of you may even know them. The hotel in Jackson, Ca. was called the Louisiana House. I was married to their grandson Gene Lowenthal, who died 5/23/85. I agree with one of the writers below who said all the Lowenthals must be related - regardless of where you live, a reunion would be in order.
Have a great day - |

|
| Hello All:
I am another Bruce Lowenthal and live in Los Gatos, California. My earliest Lowenthal ancestor, my Great Grandfather Julius, came to California in the 1870s or 1880 to the Gold Country (Georgetown, Latrobe, Jackson CA) and started in the Hotel Business. They were from Germany and I have pictures of their house in Germany and my Great-Great Grandfather but don't know is name or the location in Germany where they lived. My Great Grandfather Julius Lowenthal started a hotel in Latrobe, California which burned down in 1905 or so. It was said by my father that he had a brother who was supposed to have started in the hotel business in New York, but I have no more information than that. Julius died in 1930 and is buried in Sacramento, California. Note that there were other Lowenthals in the Gold country prior to 1900 from France (Amadore county) but they are not related to my family as far as I know. Bruce Lowenthal |

| Hi we're an Australian Lowenthal family. Our great grandfather came to Australia around 1862 from Schneidemuhl (I hope that's spelt correctly) in Prussia now Poland. There are only a couple of other Lowenthal families in Australia but we are not connected to them. We send our best wishes to all Lowenthals around the world.

With so few Lowenthal's out there, have you ever thought about a family reunion? Somehow, we must all be related. Additionally, what are your thoughts about a picture posting board? I have many scanned family photos dating back to the 1890's that I would love to share with all of our "relatives" Shalom, David |

| Hello to all the Lowenthals. I was born in Las Vegas and am a decendent of David Howard Lowenthal born in Cleveland who played for the Pirates organization and father was Sidney. My grandfathers father was Leo/leoapold? I live in Idaho now and I have a technical recruiting business, and am a regionally known artist who works in pastels and monotype prints.
I was glad to see this site. Good job. Mick |

| Hi, I found your website and was really excited. I come from a long line of Lowenthals, starting I think in Germany. I have a photo album my Grandma Delaina Lowenthal gave me full of pictures, maybe some other Lowenthals could help me figure it out. If so E-mail me and I'll give you some of the other last names

| Just looking up the Lowenthal name on the Google Search engine. I am Descended from the Lowenthal family, some of which moved to New York the first part of the early 1900's. Are you interested in family history research? If so drop me a line.

| Just surfed on in. I'm Maureen's cousin in CO. You and I met at the infamous bachelor party for Brian.
For the record, it was Maureen's half-brother Michael who dumped beer in your buddy's pocket, NOT ME! My image has been tainted by this most unfortunate event, which I was only witness, not party, to. However, yes, that was me in the ring! ;) Nice website. PEACE |

| Hello Craig -&- Family:
As a fellow Lowenthal, I am always looking for new ways to connect myself with other family members. Do you know of any "Family Tree" web sites where I might be able to find out more about the Lowenthal lineage? I am aware of many family members that are located in New York, and it is very possible that you could be one. I look forward to hearing from you. David |

| I'm Wallis' sister. This is quite a treat - we have no Lowenthal relatives beyond our immediate family. It's Passover, so we're together. Happy holiday. |

| Just wanted to see what another Lowenthal looks like. I know it's not an uncommon name, but I don't know much about my Dad's family and I figured it couldn't hurt to see who's out there.
Nice website - I'm sure I'll revisit it soon. You've done a great job Cousin Wally |

| Very nice Craig, remember the jerks who poked fun when we did the first RNIC homepage. Most are still the bigshots at RN. What a Shame! |
