| Comments: | Cardinal Village has so much to offer. BUT IT OFFERED US CANADIANS SOMETHING SPECIAL.
It offered me and my Canadian Athletes something hard to find. A high altitude training centre which allowed training at 8,500 feet or only 4,000 feet in Bishop. All within minutes of each other. When you have less than 4 weeks available for high altitude training, Cardinal Village offers one of the best locations in North America. My distance athletes won both the men's and women's Canadian championships after living in the village for four weeks. The training was hard but having all that Cardinal village has to offer during our free time made the training so much easier to handle. The staff made our stay a most pleasent one. We felt like we were part of a family. I am hoping to take a young team back next year in preparation the the world championships. Reading back , waaay in 2001 I spoke of my future wife Tesha. I must've been lucky, or saw something there because come this October 22, I am getting married. Unfortunately we chose Maui as our honeymoon spot and not Loch Leven.. But we will visit ! She has to experience this place! Take care and thanks for my time there. | Comments: | My family and I first visited Cardinal Lodge in the early 1960's. We stayed in the Moonlight Cabin. It was a memorable visit, as I caught my first trout in the stream right in front of the cabin, and WON the 50-cent piece my Dad promised to the first of us that caught a trout! My brothers claimed it was unfair, because Dad helped their "baby" sister! I returned with my parents in late '70's, and enjoyed some excellent fishing on Bishop Creek with my Dad. After he passed away, my Mom and I returned in 1992, with my two young children. The Joy and the memories all returned. Despite the Village's Flood in the 1980's, I was able to find where the stream was (no longer flowing), where I had caught my very first trout,and was able to share that with my children. The excitement and the memories; the trials and tribulations of teaching two young children to "fish"; the LAUGHTER and the FUN spent at Cardinal Village have instilled Lifelong memories. We hope to return in 2005! |

What a fantastic place, great memories!! Ice fishing on Sabrina one year we caught over 100 fish in one day!! I love what you did to the bathroom with the new shower, tile, and water heater. It was getting old standing in that bathtub trying to take a shower..! Adding the fire pit outside along with a pinic table was a most excellent idea. My whole family stayed at the resort in 1980 before and after doing a reunion hike that we had done first in 1967, when I was only 4. we did the North Lake to Piute Pass to Humphreys basin onto French Creek andthat route that led us a week later back out to South lake. I have been so curious to know if there is anyone still aroound there who was there in 1980 or 1967. In 1967, we rented 4 Buroughs for the trip from Art Schober(Art Schober ranch) which I realy miss. Anyway. I would be exatatic if you folks could write back or anyone else who sees this? So, once again hello from the Kirsch Family originally of Clarksburg Maryland and now of Portland OR. Do love the Sat Nite steak frys and all of the good people so will be there as often as is possible for me and my family. Our reservations are for June this year. How pleased I am to have found the beautiful Website you have created for Cardinal Village. I have lived in New York for thirty years, but as a boy growing up in LA in the late fifties and early sixties, I had the brilliant good fortune to go fishing with my Dad Larry Sperber at Cardinal Village for several summers in a row. Back then it was owned and run by Bernice and Wells Hall, a very special couple who made us feel welcome and taught us the joys of Trout Fishing. Cardinal was the site of my most special times with my Dad, and I treasure those memories. At various times, my Mom, grandmother, brother, sister, and many friends enjoyed beautiful summer days there. I have pictures and home movies of the pond, the trout smoking pit, of Lake Sabrina, and of North Lake. Dad, who was a lawyer, helped the Halls hold on to the place, by taking the holders of the mining rights on the old gold mine to court, so that the Halls could clear their title to the place and sell part of it to meet expenses. How lucky I was to spend so much of my youth in such a magnificent natural setting. Bishop Creek was the Mississippi River of my Tom Sawyer days. Your kids are so lucky to grow up there.
