Debbie and I just finished reading the Singing News article about you both and your minitry -- Wonderful article about a wonderful couple ! What a greast interview and simply wonderful , inspiring article! Wish we could see you all .... came to NQC one night but missed seeing you at your booth there. It's great to hear that you all are doing so well with the ministry , yet are able to "cut back" and go at a little slower pace than in previous years.... I was loking through your 2009 concert/appearance schedule...looks like most are in southern US until later in the year ..... Noticed that you all do plan to be at NQC again this year (of course !) September 14-19, 2009 .....do you have any plans immediately following NQC (i.e. Sunday Septemebr 20th, 2009) . except to head back home? Here's why I am asking.... Jackson Grove Baptist Church --where I still attend and where you have sung several times over the years, Jan--is having our 125-Year Homecoming in September. We haven't "formally finalized" the dates (weekend) yet, but if there were ANY WAY you all could work it out to come to Jackson Grove on September 20th...that will be our Homecoming Weekend ! As soon as your time and schedule permits, pelase discuss this and see whether it would be workable for you all (and Beckie Simmons/BSA)...let me know what monies you would need for that Sunday (am hoping we can keep this required monies to a small amount, since we are still a small church with a small budget) .... We'll be praying about this and hoping that all will work out satisfactorily for you all to come to Jackson Grove in September, and hopefuly, we can see/be with you all somewhere between now and then .... Dad passed away in 2004, I know he is with our Lord and enjoying the voices of the angels now, and I bet Wendy and dad are keeping everyone laughing telling one joke after another.
I do miss the old days, the days when you and Ronnie would be working in the yard or the tomato garden, I would walk up, he would stop working and start talking, LOL. Lord I do miss it. | Comments: | I saw Wendy Bagwell and the Sunliters a couple of times as a child (late 70's) and remember not just how funny the show was but the huge talent in the group. One of my best friends was Ronnie (Nancy) Williams. I remember a song about "rockabye baby in the tree tops, when the wind blows the cradle will rock, Rock my child in my arms..." but can not remember the name of the song, but it touched me and the chorus remains 'in my head' to this day. I have a small collection of the songs from Napster but would love to hear the 'rochaby" song again. God Bless! |

I used to work with Rita at the Dept of Agriculture.I saw your photo with Brother Jerry last summer at the Gospel Music Hall of Fame at Dollywood! Then I knew where you were. I have such great memories of you singing with Jerri and Mr. Bagwell. I even bought a CD at Dollywood because I have mostly cassettes. My son Spencer who you knew as a little boy will graduate from high school May 31. I remember sitting at the funeral home when Mr. Bagwell died and you introducing me to somebody as a fan of the group, but a "particular fan" of yours! And that is right. God bless you. One of the very 1st Gospel LPs that I purchases was Wendy Bagwell & the Sunliters on Scripture label. A day or two right? I have asked this seller to see if you would so kindly Autograph these 3 items for me as it would mean so much. I used to see the group at the Will Rogers Auditorium in Ft Worth, Texas when W. B. Bagwell and The Sunliters from the very first time that I saw them. I also had that love and respect sharpened one time ins North Carolina. I was in the Marine Corp and I found a small church to attend. I had only been there a short while at that church. One day a gentleman and two ladies came in shortly after service started and they sat down about half way back of the church. In a few minutes the Pastor of the church went and spoke to them. After a couple more songs, the pastor asked them to come up and sing and testify if they would. Well they did and the good thing was that you could feel God's Spirit as they sang and talked. Bro. Wendy did not tell any jokes at that time and after service was over, a lady asked him why he didn't and he said and I will try to quote it, " Sister, I believe there is a time for all things. I love a good laugh and I tell jokes and funny stories when we put on a show. Today, we were not putting on a show, nor were we asked to do so. We stopped in here to worship the Lord and I tried to obey him. " I have never forgotten that. I have said a lot of times after that, that even if I had never liked that style of music and singing, which I did and still do, I would have had to respect that man from then on anyway. I do not know if you remember this or not and I could not tell you now to save my life, the name of that church nor the name of the little town it was in. I had been trying to run from God for several years and I had just shortly before that returned to Him and His will (somewhat, I still wasn't willinto admit to or own up to a calling to preach yet) and was searching for places to go to worship the Lord at difdferent places near where I was stationed. I was at Camp LeJeune, N.C. then. I did later "own" my calling and God has blessed me with a great wife, 2 great children and 5 precious grandchildren. I had the privilege of Baptizing my oldest grandchild. I hope the other 4 wilheed God's Voice when He speaks to them. I am praying for that and I would ask you to also pray for them. Always pray for us as we have never gotten to the place that we do not need prayers and we are praying for you and your family. I have also seen Bro. I called 92.5 FM radio station in Birmingham, AL to find out which CD has "Walk Around Me Jesus" on it, they couldn't tell me and suggested I search the web and this site is what I found. That song is not played near enough on the radio anymore, I request it all the time. I remeber around the 1st time I heard that song, it was around the time my grandma passed away unexpectedly. That song is my favorite southern gospel song and if you could email me some information of where I could go about getting it I would really appreciate it. That song starts a revival in my soul every time I here it and I thank God how He's used use.
