| Comments: | Does anyone know the condition of the private burying ground near Lusby in Calvert County? This might be where a few ancestors of Millard Tydings are buried. I believe it's on the grounds of the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear facility.
I would certainly volunteer for you if I still lived in Maryland. Our family burial sites range from Dorchester to Carroll Counties. |

| Comments: | Thank you for providing this site. It is uplifting to know that others are concerned about preserving the burial sites of our forefathers who whether as famous as Washington or Lincoln or as ordinary as the former slave who went to Petersburg Va. and was injured to help this country live up to its promise, "that all men and women are created equally. I am talking about a man who was buried on Winters Lane Extended that a contributor Louis Diggs wrote about. thanks for the this site. |

| Comments: | You have a very interesting web site. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I am wondering if your coalition could render some advice on the destruction of an African American cemetery in the Winters Lane community of Catonsville in Baltimore County? Several wqeeks ago while searching for information on a book that I plan to write about African Americans at rest in Baltimore County, I noticed that the Cemnetery on Winters Lane was in the process of being destroyed. I contacted the appropriate office in Baltimore County and the work has ceased because the owner was clearing the property without a permit. I have contacted MHT, the Attorney General's Office, the Office of Cemetery Oversight as well as the Baltimore County's State's Attoryney's Office. One of the gravesites that was bulldozed and placed in rubble is the headstone of a former slave who served in the 39th Regiment Infantry, United States Colored Troops, Maryland Volunteers. He was wounded in action and provided a pension. I have photographs of all of the headstones when they were standing in the Cemetery along with photographs of them bulldozed over and placed in a rubble pile. an you provide me with some suggestions on how to resolve this situation? This is the second African American cemetery in Catonsville that has been destroyed. Thanks you for a response. Louis S. Diggs, Local Historian and Author. |

| Comments: | Thank you for protecting the grave sites in Maryland. I have worked in genealogy for over 25 years and the sites I have seen in our cemeteries is awful. A family cemetery of mine was almost destoried and headstones being replaced but in different locations. I was so hurt by this. Since then I have worked to correct this, so I understand why you started this coalition. Thank you ever so much for all the work you are doing in your state, and for this website.

| Comments: | I would like to say "Thank You" for taking the time and putting in the effort to preserving these cemetaries. My mother, who works hard on family history, has been helping me through the years with researching our family history and the importance of the grave sites. When I stumbled upon this site, I absolutely loved going through, which has helped us find some family members that my mother was unable to locate. I would love to have more information about how I can help with what you all have worked so hard on keeping available for all of us. I am truly grateful for this site! |

| Comments: | I'm very excited to learn of the Coalition in Maryland.
Back in the late my cousin that lived in Maryland did a tour to find the grave sites in the Westminster Area of our Brower descendants. My cousin ending the day deciding most of the old Maryland Cemeteries were paved over or had shopping mall's built where they once was. I believe all grave sites need to be preserved. |

| Comments: | I am truly interested in your coalition. We are working hard to restore the Spring Hill Cemetery in Easton which had deteriorated greatly. We formed a group called the Friends Of Spring Hill Cemetery a year ago and have improved the appearance of the cemetery. However, we still have much to do. |

| Comments: | My family are the heirs to our Dorsey Family Cemetery in Annapolis Junction, MD. We maintain the grounds. This was once a piece of Hunting Quarters, and was passed down thru Nicholas Dorsey (son of Joshua Dorsey). It was an original land grant.
The land surrounding the cemetery was sold years ago to a sand and gravel company, which in the last 4 yrs was sold again to a company which now is building Annapolis Junction Business Park. We have made sure that our cemetery is plotted (according to our recorded deed) on the plans with a 10 ft. easement on the outside of the perimeter. We are making plans to install a new fence to secure the area. I would like to have opinions/suggestions of any measures I should take to further protect the site. This is still an active burial cemetery, my mother, Mary Abby Dorsey Barton having been the most recent burial January 2004. I am a member of the Anne Arundel Genealogical Society and it was suggested to contact your organization concerning our situation. Thank you, Jan |

| Comments: | I am glad to find this web site. Would you on your web site list the graves in Frederick County ,Maryland.
What cemeteries do you not have a listing of the grave sites. There is a OLD FAMILY on the South Side of Route 15 above Fish Hatchery Road/ Has that location ever been listed? I would like to know the History and the family. I am in a fraternal group tht may have history on Frederick County Families. Thanks, Bob Perry August 03 2009 |

| Comments: | In researching my family geneology, I found church records indicating that gg grandparents are buried in Lowe's Burying Ground. One was buryed at Edward Lowes burying ground, the other at Frank Lowes burying ground. One was in 1854 the other 1871. Since they are husband and wife, I am assuming they are in the same place. Does anyone have any idea where Lowes bury ground is located. They lived in the Reisterstown area of Baltimore County

| Comments: | How can I get a copy of the Preservation Kit? Will it be online eventually or can I have it mailed to my work address? On another note, what stance does your organization take on remote cemeteries - such overbrush be allowed to cover the site in an attempt to deter vandalism or should it be removed and replaced with natural shrubbery or fencing to make off the confines of the cemetery? Furthermore, would it be better to not promote a cemetery as a historic attraction in our park system if we are not able to regularly monitor its condition? |

| Comments: | The Baltimore Sun featured an intersting article 10-31-2008 entitled, "Judge Says Case of Lost Cemetery May Proceed". It concerned a civil case that the Court of Special Appeals sent back to Circuit Court over whether or not the developer of the Brighton Pines subdivision in Clarksville, Maryland (Howard County) can be held accountable for removing headstones and concealing the fact that a cemetery was on a lot they sold and improved with a single family home.
This should be one to watch! |

| Comments: | A comment posted on this site in 2006 asked about Ware Plantation in Charles County, Maryland. An ancestor of mine is buried there and I'd like to visit the grave site. The previous post indicated it was on land owned by a utility company. Does anyone know if this, in fact, is the location of Ware Plantation and whether anyone has been able to get access? Thanks for any information you can provide. |

| Comments: | The Coalition to Protect Maryland Burial Sites, Inc., is a great resource. Jim Trader, via phone and in person, has given invaluable support for attempting to save a private family cemetery in Talbot County. I am sorry to hear that his health situation hasn't been all that great. Jim's follow-up letters of advice and direct intervention have been indispensible. He does a lot more than you would think one man could do. I have also had a helpful conversation with Mr. Barwick, a former member of the Coalition. |

I believe it is near Westminster, MD Is there any chance it is still there? Thanks for all your great work in saving these old cemeteries. |

| Comments: | Hello again. I found the Quillen Cemetery at Pennington Commons. It is very overgrown, infested w/ticks and the droppings from the massive flock of black birds is a purple mess, but I found the cemetery. Could only see one marker, a lovely metal one w/the name William B. Quillen, Father, which is located closest to the old roadway. Will investigate at a later time, perhaps after a heavy frost, and I need to check who the owner is first to make sure I am not an unwanted tresspasser. More later.
QUESTION: How do I go about getting some brochures on the Coalition for our Ocean Pines Library History Room? Please advise. Thanks! |

| Comments: | Hello! I am a volunteer in the Pines and help with maintaining the small cemetery that is in our neighborhood.
Only five headstones remain in this cemetery, those of the Jones, Massey and Rickords families. Have recv'd a letter from a Cathell who's Aunt Sarah is also buried there, but as with many, the grave is unmarked. There is also a small cemetery at Pennington Commons which I hope to investigate soon. My Grandad Malvin R.J. Knight was once a caretaker for the "New" Cathedral Cemetery in Balto. and my father was born in the house on Bonnie Brae road in the cemetery. My father is now laid to rest in the same cemetery. The house he was born in is long since gone. To all of you who are seeking help, remember that 'Nothing is lost in the mind of God', so I am certain He is willing to help, if asked, to find help where you need it. Keep trying, keep searching. Believe and NEVER give up! God Bless. |

| Comments: | I am concerned about the Historic Evergreen Cemetery in Bladensburg, Md. There has been no response to my mail to the town Mayor. Where do I go next? Is anyone else looking at this site? Last fall it was infested and completely uncared for.
Although I live in California, members of my family are buried there, and I want to protect and greatly improve this place. Thanks very much. |

| Comments: | My Wife Barbara has members of her family buried in the
Oella Cemetery on Rest Ave. Miller and Boone. The Cemetery is totally a mess. High grass and brush everywhere. A local person who lives beside the area warned us not to walk inside the area. A dog was bitten by a copperhead snake and died. Graves are badly sunk in. Where is Oella,s bride in letting its founders grave sites be left in this state. I was told that Oella had a big celebration in app. one year and they may clean the area up. Why doesnt the State Of Maryland and Baltimore County step in and have this cemetery cleaned up. |

| Comments: | Just starting to rescue St. Paul's Cemetery in Druid Hill Park. It was vandalized in 1986, a fence was put up, but the church that owns it couldn't afford to restore the stones. Got a bunch of willing people doing the cleanup and I know we'll find the money to fix the stones. |

| Comments: | I own a family farm that has been in our family since pre revolutionary war days. The farm was originally know as Hanson's Green. In the 1960's my now deceased Aunt helped a local historian find the grave of Theophilus Hanson Unfortunately they didn't mark the site and anyone knowing where the site was is long deceased. I know a general location of where the grave yard was I walked back there recently and it was ground over completely and impossible to know that there had been a family grave yard there. I want to find my Gx6 grandmother ( Theo's wife) I think her name was Jane Harris Love from Trinity Parish in Southern MAryland. The farm where I think she is buried is in Port Tobacco. ANy info anyone may have of the Love family from Trinity Parish or info in how to locate forgotten grave sites would be greatly appreciated. |

| Comments: | What a great work! I've done family research for years and have been sadded by the lack of care of gravesite in some parts of the country. I'm planning a trip to Maryland (I live in Illinois) and want to visit a grave that I believe is located at the Ware Plantation. I think it is located on property owned by Potomac Electric at there power plant in Morgantown Maryland. I wrote them to confirm that the cemetery is there and to ask for access unto the land to visit the Kidwell grave. They wrote back and said "for security reasons" they could not process my request.
I just read the Maryland rules on your website and it sounds like they can't refuse me, but, of course, I don't know for sure if there is a cemetery there. How can I confirm the cemetery? It sounds like you folks would know. Thanks for your help. |
