Do you tie it,or just do a double water knot and slide the small plastic ring up and lock it in place but all in all dead good and would reccomend it to anybody starting pole fishing. Wet Nets. Yours Iain (Redditch.England) |

| Comments: | Hi, i live in the uk i have fished for many years but only recently decied to take up the pole and your advice was very helpful (strange that with all the match fishermen in the ukit took someone from australia to explain it in plain english!!)so thank you very much.
On another note i was shocked to hear about the treatment of carp, in england fisherys somtimes remove carp from lakes (to other lakes they dont kill them)the reason they do this is because it encourages the remaining carp to breed and grow larger so removing carp results in more and bigger carp in the long run so should tell this to the carp haters when they ask why you are puting them back. Also (i know im going on a bit now) my local fishery has 2 ponds one jam packed with carp and the other with smaller fish roach, rod that kind of size so upon reading your site i asked him about the errosion of the back (which can be caused by fish) and he said that it is about the same for both ponds and both ponds were just as muddy. By the way dont worry to much, carp are a very well built fish, thats why they get so big and spreed so fast so they will never wipe them out. Oh, and you didnt mention on your site that one of the best carp baits of all time is canned sweetcorn, add a little chilli powder to give them a kick! Sorry for rambling on, TIGHT LINES, chris c P.s do you have tench over there (there great to catch on the pole) |

Great site, I have been fishing since i was a kid, no, i'm not a goat. Keep thinking about getting a pole since I went fishing on a local drain and as they were draining the water off I found it hard to fish using my rod and reel. However, in the next swim was a pole user, and he was fishing the middle of the drain with no problem and pulling out fish after fish. I've always said I would never switch to a pole but after that day thats when I thought, "Bugger this" I've read your site and its made it easier and less daunting, so, i'm off the my local tackle shop this morning to check out the pole section, i'm going to buy a bottom of the ranch pole 1st to try out tomorrow(weather permitting) then take it from there. Thanks for all the info in the site and I will keep coming back to see if you have put anything else on. Tight lines to all, and a happy new fishing year. |

| Comments: | Great site! Very informative.
I have been fishing directly under a walkbridge in about 6 feet of water using the handle section of a broken spinning rod. I usually catch between 25 and 50 fish in just a couple hours fishing. Got 27 sunfish on just two night crawlers today, in just over an hour. Mostly small, but sometimes I get a "lunker". I drop the line directly down into log jams and get a fish every single time. I got to thinking, if I could reach out further from the bridge and drop it into the log jams I would certainly catch more and possibly bigger fish. Today I went out and cut a 15 foot section of green wood, and made a rinky dink pole out of it. Can't wait for tomorrow to try it out. If it works I intend to invest in a more "high tech" outfit. The one I'm making is pretty heavy. Thanks for the info. Keep up the good work. |

| Comments: | Thanks for an interesting and informative site. I've been catching carp for a while, but always on the waggler, and am about to give pole fishing a shot, so much of what you write was helpful. Here in Scotland carp fishing has taken off in popularity, and we have many clear waters which contain carp. No one assumes that carp are an ecological problem, and we all return our fish alive. Indeed we try to take great care of them. However, I must confess that I once ate a carp... in Eastern Europe... cooked with blackberries and cherries. It was delicious. And of course they were introduced into this country by monks who kept them in ponds as a food source. Keep up the good work. Tight Lines. |

| Comments: | Dear Sir,
I was really amaze that upon searching, on google to improve my abilities on fishing using the pole, i found your site too interesting. Actually i'm just looking around for a good poles and where i can buy it. It was accident actually when i discover that pole fishing is better than using a rod and reel. I went fishing a couple of weeks ago, using my telescopic rod and my reel on one of the fishing area here at Abu Dhabi,UAE, when suddenly my rig got rocked. so i fulled up my rod, but unfortunately my rod gave up. I've heard a "click" sound and all of a sudden the 3rd segment of my rod broke-up. So I was really frustrated, thinking of going home. I sat for a while and...., well i dont want to ruin my fishing time because I've waited a week for this trip (because this is the only outlet i have, after burning out of architectural cadd works on computer) luckily I always bring my telescopic pole with me, an Asian made 6.30 meters carbon pole, I also have a longer one about 7 meters plus, when I was in Doha,Qatar but I shipped them home in Philippines when i moved here. But I've never catched a single fish from those poles, Beacause I always use my rod and reel believing that fish were in the deeper part of the sea. Well, I was wrong. Fish were just hiding beneath the rocks that i used to stand on. Without using the float, i hooked so many fish that almost half full on my 15 leters coleman cooler. Tne next day i go back to that place and catch twice I've got the previous day, and i got bigger sizes and other variety of fish. I just cant wait for the weekend to come. Because now I'm really prepared for the next trip after reading the techniques on your site. Please keep on going. This site is very helpful for newbies like us,hope you can share more tips and techniques, when you have spare time. A million thanks. God Speed. |

Mate carp are bad news, the river I live on has been destroyed by Carp! I live a fair way upstream before any agricultural irrigation has taken place and the Carp have made the river turbid. No chance of catching anything like Redfin or Trout unless you right up in the headwaters! I hear what your saying but from my personal experience, Carp need to go! Cheers |

So straight forward without the gobbledegook that the other sites have. They don't understand that a beginner does NOT understand half of the words they write. With your advice on casting and bait /line set up I feel sure we will both be reeling em in. Good Luck Max and Richard (Bristol England) |

| Comments: | I enjoyed reading your introduction to pole fishing, which brought back a few memories. I've mainly fish competitions for 50 years and when poles first came out you could only get telescopic, to cut a long story short we took off the 'crook' end and whipped rod eyes to push on to a 'converted' top joint. no it wasn't knicker elstic thro the eyes but it was close. This was tied off to a whipped spiggot. It was 10 years later before the now familiar internal elastic hit the market. We are talking 1960s and I whipped many a pole up for friends. We didn't think it would catch on because they were heavy for the length. I think we missed out on a fortune? what do you think?

| Comments: | Hi, good site. I have been fishing with a pole , mainly for carp, here in the UK for 5 years now and you really can not beat it for quantity of fish. We almost have the opposite problem to you in that the array of tackle available is confusing when starting out. As for carp not being edible???? Carp were bred and kept in lakes and moats originally as food fish. If you gut and clean your fish and then soak for 6-7 hours in salted water it removes all the earthiness and leaves an almost sweet taste. Don't blame the fish for yourself being a lazy or bad cook! |

| Comments: | well what can i say im a coarse fisherman living in australia and you have to shake your head at some of the comments about the carp like the one that the reason we are in the middle of a drought and the dam levels are so low is because the carp have drunk all the water in the dams.....and the treatment of the fish well if you did some of the things people do to a carp to a dog or a cat you would be in prison the r.s.p,a would have some thing to say about it a none native or not carp are prolific on every continent except antartica so why are they only a pest here......because in australia a fish is not rated on its fighting ability but on what it tastes like and if it takes lures readily at the minute people seem to spend thousands of dollars buying yank bass boats with 200hp moters on to catch a fish that would be lucky to get to 2kg ....and the wash that these boats put of well that doesnt errod the bank does it.....well the yanks are coming around anyway fastest growing fishing sport in the U.S is carp fishing i fish in coarse fishing comps in sydney all the time and the pole is deadly at the right time cant beat it ...good web site need more in aussie |
