I sent this e-mail last night to the address listed on the web page but it bounced back. So, I try this guest book. For the last several years I have been assembling a bibliography on 4 Ontario Counties, and all of the Districts of Ontario. I have 22 books with authors, titles, publication dates, and subject listed for the District of Cockrane. There is also a rather skimpy Periodical section of only 6 articles. | Comments: | My father was working in construction possibly as a foreman, in Cochrane in 1955, when he met my mother and donated to my existence. Thanks Dad. Prior to that he had worked a dozen years in construction. His mother was Finnish, his father was English.
He was 5'8", fair, with nice features and a good build. Well obviously she liked him. He was born in either 1925, (or he was 26 in 1955). He got married when he was 21, and had 3 children before me. My mother didn't know that at the time. He was from another "larger town to the south", and she was a waitress. For all I know I was named after the Albert Hotel. She moved to Toronto and put me up for adoption. I've had a really good life so far, and I have grandchildren of my own now, so all I'm really after is his name, and his parents names so I can do a little genealogical research into the past. Also some medical history would be nice too. There are no hard feelings, just a desire to find out my roots. |

| Comments: | I am looking for a Thomas Biros who died in Timmins, Cochrane Dist., Ontario, Canada, on March 31, 1935. He was from Czechoslovakia (now the Slovak Republic) and worked in the mines. He had sent for his bride and she was on the ship heading for Canada. He threw a party for his friends to celebrate her arrival, drank too much whiskey and died before she got there! I can find no reference to his arrival or his death. Any help would be greatly appreciated - thank you....Carol |

| Comments: | I am looking for family that lived in Cochrane around 1925. I believe they would have left in 1931. The family names I am looking forward are Allen, Sleep and Kenny. Kenny (no christian name) was a painter and decorator, Richard Sleep worked for the forestry (wife Elizabeth), and Margaret Allen was a domestic servant with links to Toronto and Monteith. There was also a J D Allen recorded as living in Monteith. The families were all presbyterian. The Sleeps were from Cornwall, and the Allens and Kennys were from Scotland.
I have some great photographs which I think are from the Cochrane area. One is of a very grand house with a car and would have been taken around 1926-1930 The house has two floors, is built of wood and surely must still be standing. It has a car outside ... there cannot have been to many houses like that in 1925. Can anyone held with this. Liz |

| Comments: | Hi. My great grandmother Margaret Stephenson (nee Johnston Patten)lived in Kapuskasing, Ontario for some years. She died there on August 25, 1938. I understand that she is buried at Kapuskasing Cemetery but I wrote to the cemetery,they said that a lot of their records were destroyed in a fire.
