| My Story/Tip: | At age 20 I was diagnosed after a rather harmless episode but epispde none the less. i was put on depakote and Zyprexa. I put on about 60 -70 pounds. Miserable I wallowed at this weight for aroumnd two years althoiugh I worked 30 off at one point. it was very hard for me to make good decisions as I was in college and everything was unkfood- I also had a very unfekpful therapist. Eventually I went away from home to study in wash.dc for a year- and I thoiught I would go off the medicine (Which at this point was risperdal and depakote- nearly as bad)_to lose the weight but when got home I had a much more extreme episode where I needed to be hospitalized. I was happy though because despite the fact that i had done absoulely no exercise or dieting- i had losyt all of tyhe weight- nearly. Since I changed to lithium lamicatl and risperdal- when I was piut back on risperdal I shot back up 30 lbs but Ive lost all that in the last two months- Im trying to get back to my athletic weisht of 215 -obnly 18lbs left- really quite a nightmare- I feel to a great extent thid porblem ruined my college experience- college was great before I was diasgnosed with this dreadful disease- but ill keep fighting-

| My Story/Tip: | Hi..Great Site.....I was diagnosed BiPolar type 2 by my medical doctor who decided to take it upon himself to prescribe medications for me instead of sending me to a Professional;so far I'm on DepakoteER 500mg,EffexorXR 225mg,Clonazepam 1mg 1 1/2tabs, Trazodone 50mg 1 1 1/2;Glucophage 500mg...these meds are all daily doses along with another health problem i have which is COPD for which i use Spiriva,Albuterol. Nasacort I take for allergies. I am 5'3" small to medium frame and currently weigh 192 lbs...and I hate it; my appetite also is insatiable at times;I crave chocolate real bad and sweets of almost any kind..My doctor says to exercise get out and walk, well I also have something called Plantar Fasciitis which I'm also being treated for, along with Osteoarthritis and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I hate all of this weight gain and am in the process of going to see a Psychiatrist whom I hope will change my meds and help me with this weight gain;as I just don't feel like exercising..just eating, sleeping and being on the computer..seems to be my life anymore......I will leave this message for others to read and can totally sympathize with your weight gain problems. |

Doct said that in 3-4 days the med. will improve her condition..... but nothing happend. Thank you for your support. |

| My Story/Tip: | I have been diagnoised with by polar for over forty years. Duringg that time their have been many suicide attempts. I've had many long stays in the hospital. My worst treatment was est or shock therapy. It did help but it is not a permanent form of help. I am now 58 and have had enough, manic depressive does not get cured. I am on zeprexa it helps but I ahve had trouble with weight gain. Which does not help me feel good about myself. What to do? I asked my doctor to lower the dose. I am very careful in what I eat but the weight just pores on. |

| My Story/Tip: | I have taken meds for depression/anxiety/bipolar since the age of 15. I have struggled with my weight quite a bit. Exercise helped me tremendously, and cutting out sodas and most juice to drink mostly water. |

| My Story/Tip: | Over the period of 10 years after being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, I had many relapses, and my life was being ruined. Since taking 200mg per night of Seraquel (over the last year and a half) I have been entirely well, sleep well and have no side effects.
This drug has been of great benefit to me, and I am now able to lead a normal life. I take no other drugs. |

| My Story/Tip: | I was diagnosed about 3 years ago. Ive taken paxil, seraquel, topamax, geodon, abilify, respiradol. I am finally on paxil and topamax now. But i took seraquel for 2 years and gained 60 lbs. I don't get it. If i suffer from depression, do the docs think that getting me fatter will help????!!!!!! Now I cant tell if I am depressed and irritated and angry because I am fat or if my moods need to be stabilized. I think I may be drpressed and moody due to the bipolar, but I always doubt myself. So do I stay medicated and fat, or go "crazy" and be thin?????
Love the website!!!!! |

| My Story/Tip: | Taking Depakote, 1000mgs, this past year I put on about 15 lbs. Since then I've lost some of that weight and am now taking Lithium and smaller doses of other meds like Abilify. I felt as though Depakote made my appetite insatiable. Maybe in a smaller does it would have been better. |

| My Story/Tip: | I gained thirty pounds in two months on Depakote. Seems I always had heartburn at night. Then I would eat crackers or toast (recommended over milk,) and lie restlessly, eat some more, put on weight. Antacids didn't work. Eventually, the best mix for me turned out to be Tegretol and Prolixin, (four years, no hospitalizations) and I'm down fifty pounds from my high weight on Depakote. |

| My Story/Tip: | i have bi-polar disorder which started out as major depression at the tender age of 16. i have been on about 10 different medications. the best combination had to be prolixin and depakote. but the prolixin made me gain a whopping 80lbs in 2 yrs. so now i take risperdal but it gives me a drunk feeling and i hate it. the depakote has never been a problem and i'm starting to lose weight by eating a more healthy diet of fruits and veggies. i was on zyprexa but the doc took me off of it because he says that it causes diabetes. anyone have any suggestions??? email me and let me know. thank you all so much and i hope that you get well soon. |

| My Story/Tip: | I have had a lot of trouble with weight since I became bipolar. In total, I've gained about forty pounds. I've found I have the most trouble with zyprexa. I'm hungry all the time when I''m on it. But, zyprexa is the drug that works for me the best so far. I recently started taking axid, a medicine for gastric reflux, because studies have shown it can cut zyprexa weight gain in half. I've also heard that you can take glucophage with zyprexa for weight gain. So far, it's hard to tell if the axid's working or not, because I haven't been on it long enough. Meantime, I've been buying fruits and yogurt to snack on. I also bought a treadmill. Wish me luck! |

| My Story/Tip: | i went up to nearly 16 stone over 2 years being 5'11 i got away with it for a while,i was so miserable at christmas i found the motivation i needed my sister and brother were both marrying this year so time for action.
On to the low fat diet, chuck away the booze which was hard because i had to admit to myself that i had a problem first,it started to fall off slowly i was taking epilim as my mood stabaliser which does not help,so when i went to see my consultant i asked for a change she was so understanding and supportive i don't know why i did't ask her ages ago, she changed me to seraquil which has been great. i have now lost 27lbs and gone down 3 dress sizes to an english size 14.i can actually see my waist again its been so long i forgot it was there!! there is hope and as i have been saying to myself "verything is good for today " can't think about tommorrow or yesterday its either gone or not here yet katie northwich cheshire |

| My Story/Tip: | I have found two things help me with my current weight loss program, lemon water...about 12 cups a day and 5 small meals instead of the usual 3... the water with lemon is more pallitable for me and I actually feel very refreshed...the small meals helps me not "snack" all day long... I also find that keeping fresh vegetables to munch on and salads for lunch and the evening meal help make me feel more full...I drink a glass of water before each meal and one after each meal...then sip between meals
