| Comments: | For anyone who cares to listen Melbourne still remains the international capital of soulful rock n roll. Last Saturday night the legendary Hitmen starring Radio Birdman's own Chris 'Klondike' Masuak blistered through their back catalogue in front of about 100 die hard fans, who were rewarded in spades. Check out their reissues, light weight outfits like Pearl Jam should have a listen to understand what high energy rock is about. Further to that, Tim Rogers and his merry band of Stones addicts recreated the 1969 US tour of North America at Yah Yahs in Smith St last Wednesday night, if you love the album get a ticket to Saturday night, Friday is sold out. The note perfect sound they create and attention to pop culture detail will rock you. I will get off my soap box now, one more thing, Dinosuar Jr next year at Golden Plains, keep your eyes peeled for side shows, J Mascis is the modern day Jimmy Page, and Dan Sultan's new album is worth a listen too.![]() |

Clubhouse closeouts with the kids at lowtide (the Euroesque clubbie attire was roundly condemned by the tinlids). Finally a fabulous filthy four foot mid arvo solo sesh at the end of the road down Giza way. Only fishos for company - you know who you are - the Fwits who left empty bait bags and drink cans strewn on the high tide mark. |

| Comments: | Good to see you are so happy and upbeat TBC. A saints supporter perhaps?! Yes, the swell didn't really push through as anticipated. Press release from WA reported 30ft+ waves at Cow Bombie on the Thursday and then 'smaller' 25ft waves on the Friday. All indicators pushed me towards the forecast and the articles. I've seen similar Southern Hemisphere storm systems produce 20ft surf in California - over 6000km away. Also, I've often surfed Sunsets on swells from a similarly positioned storm system. Anyway, I've had decent feedback on the forecasts since I've been back doing it and if I do make the odd mistake I'll never learn. A bit like the old skiing adage, if your not having a few stacks, you're not trying hard enough. PS Surfed your favourite spot yesterday as it cleaned up around midday - as forecast. PPS MM has some nice Indo pics on Devilnet today. |

My first three attempts at getting out failed but with determination managed to finally make it with a big paddle from Jarosite. Rich rewards followed with three magnificent beasts on the 8'0. I wait with trepidation to see whether the precious cargo is in still intact, no less the plethora of t shirts waiting to join the collection. It seems nothing much was missed in the past 9 weeks in Victoria. An unexpected last minute highlight of the trip was a visit to Huaraz, the Andean Sierra region of the Cordillera Blanca. Stavros and Shaw Thing with First Officer Feral then tackled Victory at Sea beyond Southside. Not a bad effort for two blokes dipping their toes into the tow world for the first time. A couple hours and some carnage later and everyone is hungry for more from the next macka swell. Woooooooooooop
Footnote: Awesome effort from one bloke getting out 3 km west of Bells at the swell peak after Mick Ray had been nailed by a never ending 15 foot set off Jarosite. |

There were some nice little waves coming in over the reef with just a few guys out and got a shock when I saw GT arrive on the beach with a shortboard (not a SUP) underarm- I thought he'd retired from the shortboard! Having the camera at hand I thought I'll be able to get some pictorial evidence for those sceptical it wasn't a hoax.So after setting up on the cliff with camera and tripod with my finger ready to shoot "Pekky" carving along the face but after half an hour still no shot because the man in question was doing a fantastic job of missing every good set that came through! | Comments: | Yes, I am the guilty photographer responsible for exposing the big "secret" spot on swellnet even though 99% of the surfers on the peninsula already knew about it,except TBC! That bank had been on everyone's lips for weeks and swellnet didn't name the location anyway-only those who recognise the rocks would know it and they all would have already known about the bank.I think TBC wouldn't be complaining so much if it was a pic of him pulling into the barrell!Enjoy the crowd this weekend. |

The budding photog creates a mirage of soulfulness but by name by nature our man spreads the exposure. AZ points are valid. Looking forward to a sharing session this Saturday as all names will be on the door. TBC xox |

| Comments: | All valid points TC. Just for the record there was a full car park at 7am on the Saturday morning and 30+ guys out by 8am. It's been like this for a couple of weeks now, mainly due to lack of banks elsewhere but also word of mouth (not mine either). The irony is that the bank isn't actually that great.
It's a funny thing. A month or so ago there were perfect waves there during the heatwave with just me and one other out, and it's often the case through the year. Sensitivity is justified but at the moment it's not the internet contributing to the crowd. It was so busy on Saturday morning that I went elsewhere and Matt left the water to take the pics. Once the autumn swells hit the crowd should thin and hopefully a few other banks spring up. Looks like a decent swell for this Sunday, fingers crossed that winds co-operate. |

| Comments: | About this time of the year, just prior to an Indo trip rather than one to Spanish America, there was the chainsaw incident, which along with the fasting and a dose of the flu meant I set off underdone. Keep well this year Door. Fortunately now there’s a way to go yet but. It had to be expected of Swellnet that the State in Sunday's wotd would be identified. And while the subsequent feature article may have come as a surprise, probably the reference to ‘beaches east of’ - call it here - 'Macondo’ is standard stuff vague. The exposure occurred when Spreads framed a shot through the rock and sent off that image. I'd heard at Peck's that night - a day-off in lent, being a treat with Magoo in full flight - that Caspers was back, and next day I recognised the silhouette, and expected to see TBC there centred in the pit. While the publisher ultimately has responsibility, the photog is known to us all and perhaps some degree of guilt by association needs to be accepted. For my part, years ago ‘Restricted Access’ was lifted from the gallery - initially without permission - and remains, stamped with their logo on Wannasurf. Some time ago, hackles were raised when a distinctive fence line was shown. Like then, what's obvious to those who know isn't so clear to most others, so maybe the only effect will be that crew, from down main/beach way where it’s a waste of time even looking for waves as there are currently no banks, will drive up the skinny end rather trudge through the dunes. |

| Comments: | Disappointing to see TBC's fave in all its glory on Thermal's "let's expose the wave" shot. I had good waves at Pong Su but my fin decided to get to know my inner calf muscle. Surfed for 2 hours with what I believed to be a corky of some sort and as I hobbled back up to the car and pulled the wetsuit off a deep vertical axe wound introduced me to the inside of my leg. 5 stitches. Could we all write to Peter Garrett for a please explain, not one song from their first 3 records! |

And as for being an accepted risk of being in 'their element', must everyone who enters the sea accept that they might get eaten alive? 2pm in the clear, white sand bottomed waters of the Bay of Fires isn't a turbid rivermouth at dusk .... though there are always fishers. |

| Comments: | That’s about it for the year. Best wishes to all who have left messages. Can’t indulge in a complete review but from where I sit, 2008 has been pretty ordinary. Slater further confirmed his greatness - but that wasn’t new. Similarly Mugabe confirmed he’s evil. The Bali bombers got what they wanted, as good as murdered by the firing squad; further confirmation that the secular justice, held in such esteem in the ‘civilised’ world is hardly something to be proud of. And so religious extremism continues to grow. At least in India the Mumbai killers wont be getting the Muslim burials they had anticipated. No such condemnation in Indo but. Peck must have been cheered by the Hawkers, and that final game in September saved all bar the Catters from a wasted year. Perhaps not all religion is shit – though the failure of any team to pick up Cousins before the last of the last picks confirms that ours is at least hypocritical. Still getting totally pissed on Brownlow night, and laughing about it. But given the WC 1 point flag must surely have been on the back of a speeding midfield, someone’s got to pay. The Sydney test win was no16 in a row, but the Indians managed to tarnish that irreparably, and then go on to win at home. At least it’s the Sth Africans (who I’ve only just come to forgive for their apartheid) who now should take the No1 crown. Saw almost every ball of the WACCA and MCG games and unquestionably we were humbled. Most likely it’ll be more of the same at the SCG, especially given Punter’s due to lose the toss. But can’t be too grumpy. It was great to see FIG at the G, and learn the Door’s decided to take LSL. Haven’t sighted TBC but appreciate his messages and am pleased to know that Green projects are going well. Hames has enjoyed a couple on Indo trips plus a generally good year on the WC. The BarB was good. And the stand up paddlemen …. pioneering on the EC. Something to watch there. |
