Just thought I would check in again so people know I am still out there. I don't expect any demo releases from me for quite some time. Maybe in 5 years if my Commodore Equipment is still working and assuming I can transfer files to a PC still!

Anyone catch last Thursday's episode of Fox's Reunion put out by Warner Bros.? It was interesting because it takes place in
1991 and two of the male stars are in a meeting with "Quantum" execs trying to sell a new search tool. The "Quantum" guy then tells them they are no longer "Quantum" and that they are
now called "America On Line". Quantum was Q-Link remember!!

First, thank you Elwix for improving in so many ways this site. Second, it has been my pleasure and my privilege to partipate on this wall -- this small oasis of free and unscripted thought not just for Commodore enthusiast but, also, for life enthusiast. And change is the one fundamental of life that we can not deny. And, yet as much as I have strived to write and live as a righteous uniter, I have found myself to be a divider. This shall be my last contribution to this wall for a long, very time. Thank you Uzzy, TP, and all the other great folks who've wrote on this wall. Thank you all and keep writing. I decided to put others up as well. If ANYBODY joins, PLEASE feel free to upload some demos (to the correct folders, please). If you need a new folder, tell me. I'll be adding a new group every day until I get tired of it I guess, I dunno. I'm really, really looking forward to getting my disks again and putting up A LOT OF SOURCE CODE. Maybe, just maybe, we can get some old schoolers and new coders, graphicians and musicians to join the club. And perhaps, just perhaps, do a demo and try to revive this DEAD NTSC OF OURS!

Eric: Under an emulator, all the weird little quirks and restrictions and whatnot that we've come to know and love (or at least accept) with the C64 are there. There are file restrictions, the memory map is the same... basically, it's like working on a stock C64 contained on another computer (the only difference is that some emulators can emulate RAM expansion as well, but then that is also a stock configuration with a peripheral, so...). Basically... if you coded it on a C64, you would code it exactly the same way on an emulator.

I dunno if anyone's done an emu-based demo; I'm sure someone has. I haven't... I've drawn graphics on it, but that's about it. I could never bring myself to code on it because I still don't quite trust it, even though I haven't had any problems in the five or so years I've been using it.

It could be the pc, lord i miss my old pc before it died. MMmmmmm, speed. Dropped from a 1ghz p3 (1 ghz memory, 128mg video) to one of those AMD chips and about 256 megs of memory. THe spacebar is sticking at times, my mouse exploded, my 52x cd drive gone. The ONLY thing I have left from my original system that still works would be the speakers (knocked on wood).

I have an idea for a demo! OMG! Even the name. Just need ORIGINAL music to hopefully make it work. Figure it should be ready for release by 2005...

Has anybody done a 64 demo based on emulators? Like are the memory restrictions still there? What about filesize, does it matter when using an emu? I'm not sure what i'm doing anymore with 64 coding. I done went and got myself stupid.

Although you might be right about the speed fluctuations being a bonus, it tends to 'irk' me. Have to have 100% all the time, not when vice wants it .

I've created a small yahoo group dedicated to all the 64 demos that i've coded. I'll accept uploads of other demos, I just put my demos on it for now. I just wanted a more secure backup of my demos. My pc is slowly dying, again.

I'm unsure if I have to vaildate new users, but rest assured, You'll be validated the same day.

Sweeeet....

Fuzz sent me WIcked in E-mail... THanks FuZz! It'll please you to know that i've already watched it 3 times, laughing and taking in the past. Funny thing with me and ANY of the demos i've done is, I can actually tell you what I was doing that day, how the demo came about, how long it took, etc. Any other day of the year (like last week), couldn't tell you a thing.

So it's cool. I've tweeked it in pal, ntsc, ntsc with pal overlay, etc... FOund the overlay to look the best.

All the FOE demos eh? I have almost all of them :)
I know I have all of them on cd in indiana (living in chicago again). I think that even includes those side trips i've taken, you know, when I changed me handle to Rage, Wizard and some other stupid name. Even had a couple groups I forgot all about.

If you want a challenge, and you want to really, really make me happy (hehe), find for me. JUMPMAN cracked and trained by DISCO (divine inventions soley for commodore owners). It's either JUMPMAN or JUMPMAN JR, i'm not sure, but it was MY FIRST INTRO before all the ripping shit took place. My 1st intro, in basic and ML. Was fun, but can't find that anywhere. Would love it someone happen to have it in the piles of files. Someday, i'll go through all my disks and put all the demos, utils and single file game cracks for the 64 (that i've collected) on cd for myself. Maybe even for the lucky duck who finds that file..

WW is no longer the last? Hmmm. Perhap a trip to the files area is needed..

A coop?! Did someone say CO-OP?!?! I think I seen the wrong things with that though... Artist.. Not sure I can handle drawing on a 64 anymore. Moving from 32 million colors to 16 colors (yeah, just 16)? Not sure If i'd be able to handle that transaction well. Well, unless of coz centauri OR ocp (art studio) will work 100% with pc, then maybe, just maybe i'd consider doing graphics again. Once note on that though, It's been YEARS since i've done anything on 64 (since wicked).
Like I said, i've been looking at a lot of 64 demos and I think the 'crave' may be coming unto me once again. I also think having the "last" c64 demo will make me smile a bit more than i've been. I think we have a challenge... And I hope that nobody can out-code me over all these years, hehe. I'm actually 'stupid' when it comes to coding on a 64 as of late. I couldn't tell you how to code a simple 1x1 scroller anymore, So take advantage! for some year, month or day, I will catch up to you again!

I cannot get the lynx to unlynx at all. I can't get a directory, I can't do anything on pc other than play games. Oh GOD why did I GIVE UP CODING!???!!!!!!

I just want to see my fucking demo on the 64 without having to get a 64 to see it. Sigh.

Good news?! I'm back in chicago. Dropped indiana and moved back to the place where I'm loved by everyone and everyone is loved by me. Well, the ex still lives in indiana, but that's a story we all need not get into. A single phantom?! Could this be the end of the world as we once knew it? Could there be a few smiles left untouched out there (I love that saying, thanks Steve)?!?!?! Hmmmmm....

I wanna see my """""""""""""""last""""""""""""""

If you think I should see my last 64 demo (and have a wacky fucked up feeling about it), then upload it to me! or get it into a .d64 WORKING (and I stress WORKING .d64 file), then lay it on me. Who really knows where it will lead. I've been viewing all my past demos and finding it REAL hard to find the old school demos (Suicide, Rage and that other group I started). Been kinda missing the 64 scene, and that "last demo" thing is playing a hardcore game with me. I can't let WW have the last 64 demo. I just can't.... MooHooHaaa.....

Funny thing is....

I do believe I have some LONGSHOT demo parts in my collection of unreleased stuff as well.. If memory serves me correct (and my memory is bad), Mark and I had planned on doing something together. We lost touch with each other or grew bored of the idea. Either way, I know I have stuff with Longshot's name on it... Would it be a problem If I released these items? I'll make sure to mention that FOE and LONGSHOT are not incorperated in any way, it would have been one of those, off-shoot demos... A demo on the side if you will.

Either way, i'm going to pull the thing down tommorow and see what I can do. Of coz, I have to install a kitchen fan in the morning (12 ft ceiling fan) and the crawlspace I get to work in will take me at least 30 minutes to get 15 feet to the area I need to have my wiring at... WW is trying like a mo-fo to get me coding again (pc).. I want to hook up me 128d and finish all the unfinished code that I still have. THe idea behind that is to be the last one to release a 64 demo, whereas, WW wants to be the last one. Could prove interesting if I ever pull the thing from the shelf it collects dust on.

Well with the games competition, and some news guys trying to learn how to program again, I thought I might share 2 things that I wrote which might prove invaluable for anyone desiring to make a game (or maybe worthless):

They are:

How To Make A Game

And, Why Games Are So Hard to Make, and Future Solutions (Or: Why I'm Not a Programmer)

http://light1.home.mindspring.com/kook/Why Games.txt

If anyone desires then I might make available an updated article I wrote about how to achieve good artwork, music, writing, etc. Its especially geared to people interested in fantasy art. It discusses the importance of visualization (which is neglected in most art books), and provides creative methods of increasing visualization skill.

Any comments are welcome, particularly constructive criticism. Can we use your comments (and my reply) in our REACTIONS chapter for the next issue?
As for fonts, at the moment we are using a special font that includes the graphics (e.g. for the boxes). It would be possible to give a choice of MAIN font (e.g. for normal upper/lower case letters) but that would involve some extra programming and font files on disk. It is a possibility for the future.

>What if next issue you added some easier (abcdef) way to choose the
>articles? What about doing away with the menu in the corner
>completely? Or adding a drop down menu from the top?

There are some keyboard shortcuts. C= key pops up the main menu, then you can use CRSR keys to select. (Other shortcuts - M for music menu, back arrow to escape current menu, F1 and F7 to scroll)
The menu system is designed to look like Windows, so for the moment it will stay as it is. In theory, it should be possible to add more key shortcuts, but again that would involve extra work. At the moment the priority is adding a fastloader to the system.

It doesn't matter to us if you are active in the scene or not, it's nice to get feedback. As for games and demos, the only restrictions would be space and PAL/NTSC compatibility. As an example, issue 10 will come with the 2nd WORLD MUSIC demo, a compilation of the music used in the magazine. I will be coding it, so I know that it has to be NTSC compatible.
If you have anything you would like to be spread with a future issue, then e-mail either Joerg or myself with details.

Well, that's all from me, thank you again for your views. If you want to see more, check out www.c64files.com which has a dedicated Scene World file area with all the back issues. And let me know if we can use your comments in our next issue.

All the best,

Uzzy: Have you tried to find the darkness, dream of dreaming, and then destroy the dream body by dream fire? I know you will be succesful. Try it -- if you want. It's my gift to you. If you are succesful then come back, and I'll give something extra. (I just had to warn you of the great risks obviously.)

Hey all! Just saying hi! Can't wait; school is almost done for the semester. 1 more week, then I'm into exams. All my friends that are still in high school are not pleased as they still have a month or 2 left :P

Anyway! Haven't had much free time lately.. things to do, people to see, computers to sell (I opened up my own store! URL above), and CD's to record!

TFM - I checked out your updated web site! I never realized how many demos you've put out or contributed to! Well done sir!!!

Worked on some coding of my own in the past few weeks. Nothing niftycool really, but it's new to me and I learned a lot whilst trying to do it. (in short, there's a sprite or 2 (or 57328905729085) displayed on the screen whilst other stuffs are happening).

Now that I've bored everyone with my drivel, I'll leave :P Ta-ta for now!

P.S. Someone email me some time.. it gets boring looking through spam from people who can get me the best rates on mortgages!

Uzzy, well, if you want to know more then perhaps my explaining some things better might prove useful.

The technique you mention is quite effective. I call that witnessing (terminology my own). But, I don't usually try to do that because dreams are modeled largely by expectations, and so if one looks for instabilities or anamolies then one will be more likely to find them. Likewise, if one looks for stability then one will find stability. And, the more power one achieves then the more this will be true. And, this too is one of two good reasons to learn the dream of dreaming. The other has to do with the stages of sleep.

I have two systems for classifying dream content. The old system, and the new system. The old system classifies everything into icons (images), agents (non intentional thoughts), characters (archetyped or low intelligence dream characters), and entities (implied conscious or conscious energy). The new system I'm working on is an objective system that qualifies everything into atomic psychological phenomena such as sensations, thoughts, beliefs, movement, imagery, etc.

The dream fire itself is likely to produce one of several specific consequences -- primarily an anxiety negative state or a positive state. If it is attempted with a dream body with sensation then it can result also in quite phenomenal burning sensations. However, the positive result is a state where the "I" is reduced or removed, and the only way one can reference that they exist is by their own actions. There is no noun -- only verb. There is another state like this but different where the self is expanded. The dream fire is just one way to reach these states. And, I wonder what the brain would look like if imaged in the dream fire states.

Dream characters seem to have an almost artificial type of intelligence, and if one works with them then they can become more intelligent but, so far, they've never quite achieved entity level for me. It is possible to stare into the eyes of a dream character to get a snapshot of that dream characters beliefs (data) or even to enter into that dream character. Agents may be distinguished from intended conscious thought, and may have an important relation to creativity, and memory retrieval.

Generally short term non-sleep memory is often fabricated in dreams, and this can be tested. The explicit memory is fabricated but the implicit memory may be accurate. The issues regarding memory are complex. Working memory, and sleep memory is obviously usually accurate.

High levels of dream control can be achieved by using the dream of dreaming to achieve a dream body, and then using a mnemonic action to solidify control. Additionally, additional control can be achieved by using expectations, will power (morphing), visualization, dream spinning, portals (mirrors), and I suspect the dream of dreaming.

Anything experienced in sleep should be classified as mental in nature. Albiet, there are real (complex) relationships between the dream, and the reality. The model of reality that is experienced in the dream is usually the result of the most prominent signal. This is why dream spinning or rubbing the hands can prolong sleep, and likewise enable more control (to counteract the signals from the sleep paralyzed body). The tongue may be useful for this too. Maintaining awareness by repeatedly checking for a dream-created signal (such as dream writing on hands), and by maintaining a mindful state also helps. Also, the other secret is to be completely engaged physically, and completely calm mentally.

One must be careful though that one doesn't go too far because some techniques are so powerful that they may produce states where normal methods of dream control may fail.

A few relatively safe experiments to try are: going through mirrors (try this a few times), adjusting contrast and color brightness of TV (this was easy for me to do and one of most interesting experiments), seeing dream content with relaxed eyes (as if looking into distance), and detaching from the dreambody (This is slightly more advanced then other techniques but relatively safe. One will likely take the form of an energy ball or a spec. One might also experience an out-of-body experience which is simply a lucid dream in these cases). For example, to do the TV experiment then before going to sleep intend to find the darkness, and intend to do the TV experiment. Go to sleep, become of aware of the darkness (or become aware that you are dreaming), if you do not have a dreambody then do the dream of dreaming, now that you have a dreambody imagine or think as if a TV is just out of your view to the right or left, and then turn around expecting to see the TV, and then adjust the brightness and contrast, and observe the effects. Also, after completing the experiment then do not try to wake up (or you'll be more likely to experience a false awakening), but instead focus intently on a single point in the dream, and fixate your eyes so that they do not move. Regardless of how or when you wake yourself be sure to record your experiences. The other experiments can be practiced using similiar techniques. For example, to disengage from the dream body then you can simply intend to detach from the dream body. Also, you can go to sleep with the expectation that you'll find yourself floating without a body, and when you see this then you will know that you are dreaming. You can also find another body to enter if you desire too.

If one experiences sleep paralyzation at any time then one should recognize it to not be dangerous, and use the dream of dreaming. If one awakens and desires to return to sleep then one should remain very still, and sleep paralyzation may take shape again. If one lacks control of a hand or leg then engage that body part in more activity (create a more powerful signal to counteract the sleep body signal). If one encounters a frightening or threatning character then ask that character what it wants, and who it is. This will usually result in a context change. If you want to study the consciousness of characters then ask questions such as "Did you know that I am dreaming?" or "I am dreaming, and you are a dream character. What does this mean to you?". Ask the dream character what it sees, and experiences. Ask the same question over, and over, and see if/how the answers change. This is one area I'm trying to study.

That covers many of the basics. If you want to learn more then study Tholey, and Labarge's work, and/or contact me. The only thing to keep in mind is don't believe when someone says something is impossible to do. It is usually nonsense. Anyway, I'd like to have a dream que device too. If someone has electronics skills then it shouldn't be too difficult to build one. Of course, they can be purchased but usually those are expensive.

I have another hunch too, and that is that temporary (safe) exposure to cold-water might influence a person's brain (or thinking capabilities) in some positive ways. But, I don't really know, and there are some dangers with this too especially related to the heart, and blood pressure. Uzzy, if you try any of this especially the things I've honestly warned against attempting then please contact me with your experiences, or I can contact you. THE END.
