Somewhat belatedly I write to thank you all for such a great time in Dublin - yes, its me, the blushing bride (or bride to be as I was then!!) Thanks also for sending the wedding card - which was read out at the reception and caused much hilarity that we had managed to go en masse to Dublin and meet up with a Bristolian football club!. Anyway, much as I would love to write about the Gaiety and what a great band we saw I am writing to see if Andy can get in touch with me. | Comments: | It is with great sadness that I have to tell you of the sudden death of one of our players, David Crockford.
At the last Curry Cup game he partnered my son Rory at the centre of defence. In recent years he had been responsible for the 'Russeller'- our Dribbler equivalent. I can only say that our thoughts are all doubtless with Clare, his wife, his children and the rest of the family. He was an incredibly nice guy and totally without malice and he is a great loss to us all. I would like to record my gratitude on behalf of RAFC to both Keith and to Barbara Stark for attending his service on Monday at South Bristol Crematorium. Brendan |

Thought it was only right , in line with current practice to publish this news first on the World Wide Web. After 14 months of waiting the NHS finally confirmed what I feared when hitting the deck at Coombe Dingle and what many had only dared to hint at in the past. The consultant and I quote ,stated in hushed tones that I had "a great deal in common with Gazza, Ronaldo and Alan Shearer" and when I jokingly replied that I did not know that he had seen me play, could only reply in the negative saying that I had complete anterior cruciate ligament rupture,a medial tear in my lateral meniscus and hyoline cartilege thinning ( for which read arthritis) in other words I am completely buggered and without half the fun. The alternatives are a course of physio for 3 months or a simple op, i.e. they put a camrera in the knee then slice it from top to bottom, open up the knee cap , slice the remaining cruciate in half , move one half over, bolt in place and replace the knee with a bone graft and leave a 6 inch scar and then have a 30% chance of never kneeling again!! Call me Mr Picky but give me physio any day.Being religious I need to be able to kneel and in any case the wife would nver forgive me.Ah well look on the bright side I will not have to put up my standing order in fact I can cancel it and just go for the tour fund option and resign myself to joining the fat wheezey boys with a note from matron on the side lines. Just a note to say I have broken my 5th metatarsal in my right foot, after hobbling off on Tuesday night (that's Gary Neville, David Beckham and now me). The doc says I will be off football for anything from 6-12 weeks, and then can return only if the fracture heals properly - apparently there's a shortage of oxygen tents at Frenchay, otherwise it'd be sooner. I can probably drive after 6 weeks, so hope to see you down the pub then. The orhopaedic speacialist is happy to take any cash donations from anonymous donors that may influence his instructions to me that may force me to hang up my boots! He did ask whether that unknown Argentinian you guys had purchased had done the 'job' as requested; no matter, he will pick up with you when he next sees you down the Mauretania. Please pass on my reagrds to the rest of the lads, and catch up with you later in the summer. Cheers...James |
