So, my name is Mary and I am a 25-year-old Chinese-American female from New York, USA. Well, I've been penpalling since 2002 or 2003 and I've had the greatest fortune of corresponding with so many people from around the world. Throughout the years, I've found that I FINALLY know what I am looking for in a penpal...
It sounds simple, but I am just looking for a true, loyal, and long-lasting friend and friendship. I won't lie to you saying that I am the best penpal in the world. I've dropped one too many penpals in the past, and probably people that I've written to before will see this ad and shake their head and say: "Mary is truly the worst penpal in the world!" I explain now that I stopped writing to people because there was no longer a connection, and I think that is what penpalling is all about and what I am looking for in that friend/penpal...a connection and a mutual relationship where we can "talk" about everything and anything and so "interviews" or "diary" format letters are not my cup of tea at all. I only look for people who are into handwritten letters, do not do stamp back, and are able to correspond rather frequently. Now, I do not mean once a month or once a week, but just as often contact as possible because I do not see how any relationship can be formed when you hear from someone once or twice a year. With my closest penpals, I love to exchange letters and also short email messages. I also love colorful and well-decorated letters or cute stationary and stationary sheets, but that is not a must. The most important to me are the words on the paper, the effort put in the letter, and the click or connection that we feel with one another. Factually, I look for someone who is from Europe, South America, and Asia who is either male or female between the ages of 20-30. Point blank: I make it a point to write to people who I personally feel that I would get along with face-to-face. My story from a couple of passed years goes that I graduated from high school in spring 2004 and tried to get in the law university straight away but didn’t make it in the entrance exam at the first try. I gave up that plan, as I realized it wasn’t the thing for me. At the moment I’m working as a sales assistant and studying languages which definitely are my cup of tea. I’ve studied several languages after high school and already in school. Finnish is my native language and English I started when I was nine years old. I’ve also studied it in an university level even if I’ve never “officially” been in university to study it. I can speak Swedish because it’s the second official language in Finland, not to forget to mention though that my skills are a bit rusty, tee hee. I took the basic course of German and French in high school and I have studied more French after high school, and I’m also planning to continue it this spring. I studied the basics of Russian and Arabic this fall and I will continue Russian later but Arabic I wanted to learn just so much that I’m familiar with the letters and some of the most common phrases. So, obviously, I’m very fond of languages and they’ve always captivated me a lot. I live in Helsinki and I have one brother and two sisters, I’m the eldest. I have a who’s very dear to me. One of the happiest days in my life was in December last year when I got Garfield. I have several hobbies and interests; music, reading, writing, discussing, computers, Internet, some sports like jogging and swimming, languages, history, psychology, cultures, learning new things in general... I could write a list of ten pages of them if I just dared to start. I’m basically always up to a lot. I’m an active person and always ready to try new things and very curious about just everything. It just takes a lot of time to do! I enjoy going shopping, mostly window shopping. I tend to not buy much unless I really need something, as I’m a bargain shopper! I love shopping at thrift stores. I like going out to eat, just sitting in a nice restaurant, talking and eating. I love spending time with my family. I like to go bowling or to play mini golf in the summer time. I love to listen to music, mostly the radio! I do like to read, but I don’t really get to do it very much. I like to go on Myspace.com, I’m highly addicted to that site, and I’m willing to admit it. The internet itself is really an addiction! I love to play Rummy, UNO, Yantzee, Monopoly, The Sims (on the computer), and going on Pogo.com. I love to travel to see different places, and visit family and friends. I love to receive and send mail, obviously! Some of my favorite movies include 13 Going on 30, The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, Because I Said So, Spiderman, The Rocky Balboa movies, Finding Nemo, Cars, The Hot Chick, The Holiday, The Family Stone, Backdraft, Ladder 49, Days of Thunder, Top Gun, Frequency, Stepmom, Runaway Bride, Shrek, and so many more movies. pretty much a little bit of everything. As far as music, I like R&B, Pop, soft rock, 80’s & 90’s music, some country and hip-hop. A few of my favorite artists are Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Gwen Stefani, Akon, Nickelback, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Fergie, Chicago, The Eagles, just to name a few. My all time favorite musician would actually be Shania Twain, but my favorite song of all time would be “Wind Beneath my Wings” by Bette Midler. As far as TV shows, I love ER, King of the Hill, The Simpson’s, old reruns of Full House, Family Matters, Saved by the Bell and Golden Girls, American Idol, Dinner Impossible, Kitchen Nightmares, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Survivor, Beauty and the Geek, America’s Next Top Model, and WWE Wrestling. I also enjoy Atlanta Braves baseball. I do have brothers, but no sisters. I have always wanted a sister, but I did get blessed with one great sister in law. My brothers are Melvin (37) and Kevin (31). I am very close to them both! They both live fairly close to me. My brother Melvin is engaged and getting married next June. My brother Kevin is single. My sister in law is Angela (22), she has a steady boyfriend and is a senior at Georgia State University. My parents are not still married. They got a divorce when I was 12 years old. They have both remarried. My mom is in the process of divorcing my step dad, Michael, it’s final in January. My dad and ex-step mom, Anna separated not long ago. I do have a big family! I have 9 uncles and 2 aunts. 2 uncles are deceased as well as one of my aunts. I have so many cousins I can’t keep count! I am very close to my parents. | What I'm Looking for in a Pal: | I am looking for penpals with similar values (socially conservatives, non-partyers...and a love of nature/the environment/conservation would be nice) and similar interests/hobbies, who are between the ages of 21 and 27, give or take a year or two.
