I'm a 20 year old college student in Illinois, I work constantly (have 3 jobs right now) between the movie theater, my college, and the indie pro wrestling circuit. I own a small wrestling promotion, so I do all sorts of work with that (think WWE but much much smaller). I'm majoring in tourism and hospitality right now. I love studying different cultures, haven't officially learned any other languages besides English but I like trying to learn. I think religion and spirituality are fascinating (all of them). I read a lot of romance novels, paranormal fiction, manga, and comics. Not much time for television. But becuase I work at a cinema, I see LOTS of movies. LOVE music of any kind, really. I love writing long letters and short stories, as I've already mentioned. I love to challenge my imagination by writing stories and lose myself in the character I’m creating. For just awhile, I can take a mini-vacation from the mundane and pretend I’m a fairy learning how to fly for the first time or I can be a woman from the frontier that is experiencing a big city, like New York, for the first time. So, my name is Mary and I am a 25-year-old Chinese-American female from New York, USA. Well, I've been penpalling since 2002 or 2003 and I've had the greatest fortune of corresponding with so many people from around the world. Throughout the years, I've found that I FINALLY know what I am looking for in a penpal...
It sounds simple, but I am just looking for a true, loyal, and long-lasting friend and friendship. I won't lie to you saying that I am the best penpal in the world. I've dropped one too many penpals in the past, and probably people that I've written to before will see this ad and shake their head and say: "Mary is truly the worst penpal in the world!" I explain now that I stopped writing to people because there was no longer a connection, and I think that is what penpalling is all about and what I am looking for in that friend/penpal...a connection and a mutual relationship where we can "talk" about everything and anything and so "interviews" or "diary" format letters are not my cup of tea at all. I only look for people who are into handwritten letters, do not do stamp back, and are able to correspond rather frequently. Now, I do not mean once a month or once a week, but just as often contact as possible because I do not see how any relationship can be formed when you hear from someone once or twice a year. With my closest penpals, I love to exchange letters and also short email messages. I also love colorful and well-decorated letters or cute stationary and stationary sheets, but that is not a must. The most important to me are the words on the paper, the effort put in the letter, and the click or connection that we feel with one another. Factually, I look for someone who is from Europe, South America, and Asia who is either male or female between the ages of 20-30. My story from a couple of passed years goes that I graduated from high school in spring 2004 and tried to get in the law university straight away but didn’t make it in the entrance exam at the first try. I gave up that plan, as I realized it wasn’t the thing for me. At the moment I’m working as a sales assistant and studying languages which definitely are my cup of tea. I’ve studied several languages after high school and already in school. Finnish is my native language and English I started when I was nine years old. I’ve also studied it in an university level even if I’ve never “officially” been in university to study it. I can speak Swedish because it’s the second official language in Finland, not to forget to mention though that my skills are a bit rusty, tee hee. I took the basic course of German and French in high school and I have studied more French after high school, and I’m also planning to continue it this spring. I studied the basics of Russian and Arabic this fall and I will continue Russian later but Arabic I wanted to learn just so much that I’m familiar with the letters and some of the most common phrases. So, obviously, I’m very fond of languages and they’ve always captivated me a lot. I live in Helsinki and I have one brother and two sisters, I’m the eldest. I have a who’s very dear to me. One of the happiest days in my life was in December last year when I got Garfield. I have several hobbies and interests; music, reading, writing, discussing, computers, Internet, some sports like jogging and swimming, languages, history, psychology, cultures, learning new things in general... I could write a list of ten pages of them if I just dared to start. I’m basically always up to a lot. I’m an active person and always ready to try new things and very curious about just everything. My name is Mary and I am a 24-year-old Chinese-American female from New York. I post up a penpal ad about myself at least 4 times a year on verious and great penpal websites, such as lettersets.com. There are always some changes to my ads, but the one thing that remains the same is that I am on the search for long-lasting, true, and chatty pals. According to a few unpleasant (yet true...I do not lie and say they are false), I realize that some of you may not believe this because, yes, I admit fully that I have a very bad tendency to take on too many pals and then have to drop them. To previous pals that I had, I am deeply and profoundly sorry to have hurt you in anyway at all. I know my apology may not mean anything at all, but we all in the penpal world know the power of words. So, I am truly sorry and always wish the very best for each and everyone of you! The penpal world is amazing. You make all these connections and share all these thoughts and everyday happenings. The penpal world is also a bit pleasantly scary, in my opinion, because it seems like one penpal knows another and word travels fast if one penpal is good and if another is terrible. For me, penpalship=friendship...nothing more and nothing less. When I see all this backstabbing and anger, it really hurts me. I suppose it is only fair for it to hurt as I admittedly have hurt other people. All I can say is that we are only human and I wish for us to continue our friendships with happiness and not angry gossip. I am not perfect. No one is and I would like to continue writing to people with happiness and comfort...not fear that one penpal has heard one bad thing about me or something else. Honestly, it has come to this point, and I do hate that it does...but I take comfort in all the amazing and wonderful pals that I have forged a connection with and continue to do so. Since my mail box has been a bit empty lately, I thought it was time to look for some new pen pals. I'm 27, half German, half Czech, living in the Canary Isles, Spain. I recently finished university and now work as a receptionist/secretary in a congress & exhibition centre - an interesting enough job but, since we only just started, things are still a bit slow at the moment and I seem to have so much time on my hands that I often get to write letters while at work ;o). Pen palling is one of my biggest hobbies (I've been doing it for about 14 years now) and I couldn't live without my pen pals; some of them are closer friends to me than those I see on a daily basis. I also LOVE music (esp. Joan Baez! But also pop, blues, rhythm&bass... anything really except for jazz and country), books (I like psychological dramas, auto-/biographies, intelligent humourous books, classical literature - anything but sci-fi and fantasy... my current favourite writers are Jeanette Winterson and Torey Hayden), travelling, movies & DVDs & TV, playing squash, cooking & eating, going out, languages and linguistics (I studied English philology at uni), laughing, sarcasm, and more. |
| What I'm Looking for in a Pal: | I am a LONG letter pal and by long letters I mean at least 5-6 A4 sized pages (and my handwriting is not very big), but often my letters are longer than that! Short letters bore me, so please, if you can't write that much, don't write to me at all (thank you!).
I am looking for chatty long letter pals who will ask questions and answer mine as well. There is nothing worse than having one-sided conversations and getting the impression that the other person is not really interested in you and having to think of topics to discuss, don't you think? Since I already have quite a lot of pen pals, I am getting to the stage where I no longer mind typed letters, so if you decide to become my friend, you should be open about receiving typed letters, too (also because that's the easiest and least suspicious thing to do at work, haha), just as I won't mind receiving typed ones, either - rest assured I would never copy and paste my letters and send the same one to 10 different people! I am not the sort of person who drops people after a couple of letters; normally the 1st letter is important to me to see how good or bad I may get on with somebody but hey, I am pretty easy-going and only drop people when I feel totally unhappy about continuing writing to them (and that happens rarely). I don't want to write to people who will disappear on me after a couple of letters but if they do decide to drop me (pen palling is like any other friendship - with some you get on, with some you don't), I'd at least expect them to let me know (I'd do the same, of course). As for age limits, anybody fulfilling the above criteria between the age of 24-30 would be good. I'm sorry but I don't want any more pen pals from the USA, Asia or Africa. Also, I feel more comfortable with female pen pals, and I most definitely don't want to receive any emails asking me for money or marriage (I'm in a wonderful relationship with my English fiancé and we're getting married soon!). Oh, and I will ask you to write the first letter! I am tired of sending out letters and then never hearing back from those people. |
